Pathway to the Premiership
I'd like to acknowledge BMAC. As a rule of thumb in the industry - it's known that it takes 7 years or so to build a team for a premiership. Significant influence on the training standards and support for Brayshaw, Petracca, Viney and Harmes - lauded as one of the top midfield groups - who just happened to come up against another one of the top midfield groups in Bontempelli, Liberatore, MacCrae who he had a significant influence on.... and he also had significant influence on Ablett, Ling and Chapman.

How many times have you watched the replay?
Earlier today after watching the 4 mini kayo's of Rnd 23 v Geelong - QF v Brisbane - PF v Geelong and GF v Footscray and recognizing I've probably gorged on the equivalent of 24 hours of football content from a range of sources over the last week. It did make me wonder about how our contemporaries in 1964 got to gorge on the last GF? Read the papers cover to cover? Or did they all just move along quickly then?

How far off were we from a perfect 2021?
From back in June Also another linK - load management Throwing it out there... with finals essentially assured, this helps with planning. Perhaps they’ve been doing a hard block of aerobic training, so more fatigued for this particular game, rather than having it easy for 10 days...which will continue over the next fortnight. Which fits into a bigger picture of tapering before the finals in 12 weeks So if you’re doing a particular hard block of training, it’s more than likely not an attitude thing. the team looked flat from the word go... but there is 3 months of evidence that they are a professional and hungry unit who have delivered against high quality teams. so in my mind it wasn’t ‘attitude’ per se - something else is going on if you’ve got a bye coming up and some teams at the lower end of the ladder - If you were Burgess, and has to plan, where would you put the hard training block in? let me digress to Geelong and how they often lose after a bye - when they’ve got x amount of games at kardinia park - near certainties to make finals annually. Just might be some correlation to training loads and intensity in preparation for finals - and how it interplay’s with game day fatigue Just sayin... ( volume and intensity looks pretty high right now if you’re to use it as a guide as to what may be occurring behind the scenes in training. when you ‘know’ you’re in for finals, so to speak Edited June 14 by Engorged Onion

2022 Fixture - We are the Hard Draw!
Whilst its fair @Baghdad Bob, my capitalistic bent, feels it's really unfair to share the profits with minnow clubs like Collingwood and Richmond when they're secondary to the main entertainment package.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Just listened to Tim Lane in the last 3 minutes of the match. He said Melbourne had kicked 100 points (which I know we all know) in essentially a quarter and a half against a team that had not conceded 100 points to any team all year. [censored] stupendous.

Anything I can do somewhere in settings or preferences to rectify this? *sorry for posting it here folks, but I figured someone will know something... and then this can drift way down the forum topics list.

Tom McDonald Re-Signs Until 2024
There was a lot of talk about how badly Tom McDonald’s form tapered off in the last month or so. Did it though? Football is a team game, not an individual one. It’s not a coincidence that Brown’s apparent influence grew in the same time that McDonald’s diminished. Every time that Brown took a mark or had space to lead into, if McDonald and his man were nowhere to be seen, that’s not an accident. These are the sacrifices that key forwards make for each other. Does Bayley Fritsch have the finals series he does, and is he able to cut the angles to find space like he does, if McDonald is cutting off his leading lanes or being close enough for his opponent to go third man up? McDonald will have been feted beyond belief internally for putting the team above himself. Old mate earned the extension.

I can normally shrug of the arrogance of people... but I haven't been able to let this one go. Anyway, I present some artwork. Yes, yes, I am a very petty person.

Match Scores Differential - 2021
Thought I'd bring up my own thread - just to be a smug bastard - around the meaningfulness of how we were tracking and the little observations that were there, even in the early round, were actually a portent of what was to come.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
I opened you tube and sourced sen commentary grand final 2021 - as well as kayo (if you have it) and synched it up perfectly through that. I had the abc radio version. sublime.

How do Bulldogs do it?
I thought Browns goal in the third was a clear hands in the back against him I thought Schache should have had a free when Brayshaw smashed into him in their 50 I thought Pickett should have clearly had a free against Libba I thought Max should have had a free in the goal square when Easton Wood went front on (spoiled the ball mind you)]

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KYSAIAH KROPINYERI PICKETT
At the end of last nights game, I noticed I was feeling disappointed for Kossie, not to get a lick of the ice cream and jag a goal or three. It felt expected in a win of that magnitude. I then read he only had 4 possessions... and I wondered if he felt he hadn't contributed meaningfully to the win on the day. I then, checked myself to recall that stats don't necessarily tell the influence that some one has on the game (looking at you as well TMAC)... Anyway, a little nod to Kysaiah's work by the lads at Mongrel Punt. DO KYSAIAH PICKETT’S FOUR TOUCHES TELL THE STORY OF HIS GAME? No, no, no… not by a long shot. You see, there was this other guy who used to play small forward around seven or eight years ago. Turns out he was pretty good at it. Played for Hawthorn… name was Rolly or something? Ever heard of him? Apparently, some people used to think he didn’t do enough because they were used to looking at the stats sheet and assessing players by numbers. Players like Pickett, and yes, players like Cyril Rioli, make those numbers seem redundant. Put it this way – Charlie Spargo has Kysaiah Pickett to thank for his goal in the first quarter. It was all about Pickett’s pressure, firstly to not give up the ghost in a two-on-one disadvantage. Secondly, his lunge at the Dogs’ defender caused an error, leading to a turnover and the Spargo goal. There was another aspect to his game I found interesting, as well. Pickett has made a name for himself with his blistering closing speed, but if you watch the game again, as I am sure you will, watch the way he refuses to commit to the elusive Caleb Daniel. Instead of charging at him, and opening himself up to the sidestep, which Daniel does so well, Pickett stays off him and corrals him, forcing him to kick over or around him. It’s bloody smart! Daniel has made a fool of a heap of players over the past couple of years, walking around them like they were traffic cones – not Pickett. He was well-drilled in the way he played Daniel, and the further the game progressed, the less efficient Daniel become.

What they're saying at Whitten Oval.
Oh, what was the song? Can't two teams like the same song?

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
The turn around in the last two months to realise our scoring potential has been amazing.. whether that is synergy between the forwards, or something else I am not sure. Anyway here are some lovely bits of data or data (depending on how you say it).
