  1. (for the sake of getting to 100) Am I the only one on here, who feels that 'Bang, Bang, Bang' undersold the occasion, and wished like hell the Channel 7 version had someone else in commentary at the time, rather than JB or Bristle?
  2. The tonne is a metric unit of mass equal to 1,000 kilograms. It is also referred to as a metric ton. It is equivalent to approximately 2,204.6 pounds; 1.102 short tons, and 0.984 long tons. The official SI unit is the megagram, a less common way to express the same mass. Surely you mean a ton - as in 100 runs -> cricket Care to adjudicate? @Demonstone 😇
  3. Here is an overview of some 'stats/trends' from around the league by the gents at Mongrel Punt, it's an interesting read, and for those that salivate over Clayton...well there is a lovely little piece on his influence.
  4. As I have nothing of interest to contribute today in the slow wind down to Christmas, I received a little email from The MFC re: a $999 watch! It's got a logo and SOIL- yes SOIL from thy hallowed turf that is The MCG - personally I'd have put in some Optus Stadium grit in. Anyway... what's the forums view? 😄
  5. Hotness was exemplified by kicking truly a few times from the left pocket 40 out throughout the season... just didn't quite replicate in the GF
  6. What an odd opening statement... "Melbourne has enjoyed a rare win at the national draft when it secured two of its top first-round targets exactly 20 picks apart across two nights."
  7. Thanks @Watson11 a far more forensic dissection than I have the intelligence for...
  8. Up there with Shane Ellen...
  9. In looking away from our shores at distant leagues and thus different approaches, here is an article worth reading. It summarises (for those that care or are even aware about club legend OGS's sacking from Man Utd) and what the FD have done next, in obtaining a specific person, with specific skills sets and philosophy in what works for high performance. Geez I'd love some discussion in AFL at this forensic level. Anyway, what stood out for me in reading it (and linking it to Goodwin). "But with Tuchel and Rangnick, and Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp for that matter, the most notable quality is their restless intelligence, the obsession with detail, with football as a play of shapes and numbers and ideas. This is how you win at this game now. The fitness and technical quality of elite players is so well-matched that this has become a game of details, a cerebral as much as a physical battle. With this in mind Solskjær’s departure has spared us what would have been a very obvious contrast." I am firmly in the camp of Goodwins intelligence, and subtle strategic curiosity and credentials, and have been since his first year as coach. This was evidenced by Goodwin's willingness to be 'experimental', to test out in-game ways of being different with strategy to win matches. Roos, Clarkson, Beveridge and Hardwick all have shown this attribute as well (or at least, more clearly on display than other coaches). There is a comment around Tuchel's press conferences also. I for one hope Goodwin, with premiership success and his standing a good/great coach validated, also allows him to be more authentic with his strategic acumen and put it on display in press conferences going forward. Have a good week everyone!
  10. Media still confused about whether 2021 was Melbourne's anomaly, and feel 2019/2020 is the better predictor.
  11. Strongly disagree with the notion that coaches don't rate him. He fills the gaps of the leading lanes that either Brown or Tmac (Weid) create. His assets are his hands and his leap and his read of the play, and then the silk of his kick - he is highly highly regarded with AFL circles, as has been for a few years. The question for each coach, is about how they allocate their own assets. Once Brown and Tmac (Weid) has been covered off (as each have shown they can kick multiple goals many times throughout the year - who is left to cover a fairly unique player who isn't tall, but plays tall... he's on to the 3rd best defender, who is a mid size, who wont typically have the leap or is deficient in other attributes. Fritsch's body of work ALSO means that defenders are well aware of his ability- so defenders also have to second guess whom to commit to - giving both their own defender AND Fritsch, often enough time (milliseconds) to react to the flight of the ball moreso than the defender who is 'panicked' about whom of the 3 (or 4 if Jackson/Gawn floats down) is the bigger aerial threat.
  12. You look like one of the most under rated guitarists of the last 20 years or so Steve Craddock. Are you Steve?
  13. Well done for not censoring your face! (unless of course it's someone else!)
  14. That's brilliant @Watson11 - my hypothesis was correct :)
  15. Does anyone have a calorific indicator?🤣
  16. It cant be said either way. Correlation isn't causation....and you know what is said about hindsight. Not meaning you @DubDee, but the language of Premiership Hangover is superficial punditry - but it's what 95% of readily accessible AFL pundits do.
  17. What are the factors that you think create the media notion of a 'hang over;? Personally, I dislike that language, as it infers that expectations (that have been set by media/supporters) haven't been met, or that once a Grand Final has been won, the players aren't as compelled - which I feel is a disservice to the playing group and FD.
  18. Great question! I was hoping by the nature of 'Every Angle' in the title of this thread, that the down the ground vision would have been part of it...alas.
  19. Jack was very very good at not buying into his frustration. The quick multiple shakes of head - but steely eyes on Liberatore.
  20. From an Explain Pain (and Fatigue) perspective - the body wears in, it doesn't wear out. Not only was Burgess/Gooodwin/et al. exposing the body physically to distress, but emotionally to the discomfort as well - both are forms of exposure therapy and imperative in managing the experience of pain . Which dovetails in to the anecdotal experience of what @tiers has mentioned above. Here is one of the coolest video's I have ever seen on explaining the science behind pain, as well as been amusing, it takes very complex understandings and makes it digestible. Without boring people about one of my favourite topics -(pain and psychology) - what influences the pain (and fatigue) experience is 'meaning'. What I mean is the meaning behind the experience, will amplify the 'felt' experience. Take Dermott in the 89' grand final - he wasnt superhuman - his brain was sufficiently able to experience the discomfort in service of what mattered - as it was a grand final (the meaning) - this would not have happened in round 18. What does this mean for Burgess and the playing group - well, clearly there are thesholds that the tissues being used can sustain before its over its tipping point... but what Burgess and Co have done, is slowly increase the baseline of that threshold....and the lived experience is that the players can cope - both physcially and emotionally - and this is ALSO what plays out in the final quarters of matches - its belief - and I mean genuine belief that the players can 'run out' games - as its based on lived experience, which means that they are less stressed (which impacts on fatigue experiences --> disposal efficency) etc... I would presume the athletes will also now be MORE willing to continue to train in a similar manner, and push the envelop - due to the rewards that have come in 2021. (Like Pavlov's dogs - linking success to earlier discomfort in service of something important).
  21. In having a one month anniversary watching of round 23 onwards this afternoon, before I head out to a local pub. (with my 5yo who wants to wear a tuxedo 🤣 and we will honour, as he wants to go to a fancy restaurant (its the BHP))... Every single time I see this person, post Max Gawn's goal against the cats, snapping form the boundary - I just feel he/she encapsulates every Melbourne supporter who drinks...EVERY.SINGLE.TIME *I'm just going to neck what I have in my hand, get another, kick back and enjoy the show!
  22. No blame here - I was more concerned about your 'oft quoted' OCD traits... 😀
  23. Presume that's the other way around Andy?
  24. How's me math!! 🤩
  25. I heard about it yesterday - apparently at The Potato Shed in Drysdale @drysdale demon - but the proceeds do not go to the club, allegedly.
