  1. love the recent addition of the links to the training report @Demonland, well done.
  2. I agree @rjay. I thought about adding a caveat of course. I think everyone who posts here, who leans towards that being tired/cooked was a significant part of the 2019 season also acknowledge that it wasnt the only reason, whether it is posted within a post or not. I'll try to be clearer next time. From a weighting perspective, where I put ownership of why the 2019 season played out the way it did Strategy Injury/Rehab Personnel 15% 65% 20% STRATEGY *disappointed with how the i50's went in, as well as the inablity to keep it in - and I still see that linked in to the injury/rehab component, however tweaks need to be made PERSONNEL*I am all for players who play their role , who are not superstars and I am very accepting of errors, there are a range of players who I do not think will be part of a premiership winning team, this would unfortunately include J.Hunt, O Mac and a few others, whom I have been 'willing' to kick on, but I believe will be superseded due to inconsistency. AND these players played more than they would have based on who couldnt get on the park.
  3. All clubs, all the time, week in, week out - are reviewing strategies to beat any other club... the oft trotted out line of, 'we will just focus on us', is well a smoke screen'. The magnitude of the loss is important in so much as, that we can acknowledge throughout the season, the team put numerous clubs to the sword. If we kept losing matches by 4-6 goals week in week out, then clearly teams had worked us out/the system didnt work. However this was not the case. I wonder what the conversation would have been if we lost by 5 goals... would we be unlucky, would we be tired, would the WCE have worked us out? We got annihilated because we were exhausted. You don't lose matches by 11goals purely by strategy, its either a Neeld era team, or the players cant run to position. AND then linking the belief that 'we was worked out in 2018 prelin' to how we performed in 2019 is reductionist and simplistic. If the players haven't trained, and don't have the capacity to run out games, then in the modern era of aerobic fitness, the team is f'd.
  4. I for one, deeply admire your research. Thank you.
  5. You're bang on @Demonland - we've got elite staff now, exposing the athletes to discomfort, both physical and psychological, in a style called 'graded exposure'. They'll learn they can cope with the fatigue, build their base lines and capacity and thrive and execute more consistently. Goodwin has built an impressive team of staff in the off season
  6. Manic Street Preachers ' Of Walking Abortion' I knew that someday I was gonna die. And I knew before I died Two things would happen to me. That number one, I would regret my entire life. And number two, I would want to live my life over again
  7. Buckenara does what Buckenara does. That’s cool. His opinion is as worthwhile as mine
  8. When I peruse this forum with my cheese plater and IPA or vintage Shiraz, I for one value people's experience, as I am so far removed from any sort of football reality, be it juniors or otherwise, that I profess to have zero knowledge. I guess I naively, assume people who assert their knowledge on here 'must' know their area of expertise. Because I wouldn't go around posturing for areas I know SFA about. What I get confused by, is when there is such a discrepancy between said 'veteran U18 watcher' and his/her opinions and then what the MFC recruiting department choose to do, with all their data, direct and indirect relationships over numerous years with whom they draft. How can the MFC get it so wrong... no really, HOW can they get it so wrong? (spoiler... they aint) I think one lens to look through is if one of the top teams were getting pick 3 (or wherever) who would they be taking... again the conversation is between 'needs' and 'pure genetic giftedness' (talent) In all seriousness, all teams pick 'busts' in all rounds of the draft, so to take the [censored] by saying that we are worse than any other team beggars belief. They are all calculated/forensic risks by the club. The MFC aint wrong with whom they pick. As it is all educated guesses with conjecture about potential. And potential is just that, potential. ...I am sure there is another thread discussing the merits between drafting genetically gifted speciments vs development somewhere here
  9. "Not to mention the potential recruitment of Bennell, who will start training with Melbourne on Tuesday."
  10. yeah nah means no nah yeah means yes
  11. soooooo..... what does Melbourne have?
  12. As a country member, I am already frothing to see photos from training next week of this bloke. Hope you’re turning up @Satyriconhome a lot of people are banking on you and grateful for your efforts. Your brief from the unwashed plebs that cannot make it is -‘Comparison shots’ against Gawn, Preuss, Weid and TMaC would be helpful
  13. often known as the River Trent
  14. Que? What do you read from that statement @Clint Bizkit?
  15. He didn't mean it from a 'how we prepared as a club perspective, we were blindsided due to strategy/tactics etc' - it was a reference to the context of where the playing group was at from a rehab perspective. *apologies, my rage, didn't see that 48 other posters had written essentially the same thing...
  16. His burst from a standing start is quite something...
  17. I also think that if he is a great player and then wants to go home...well, we then receive some benefit from a trade at a higher level anyway. These are the realities that the industry operates in, and we may as well cash in at any given point in time.
  18. I was agreeing with you... xo - peoples view is often contingent of where 'we' sit on the ladder from a drafting perspective, and you my friend were teasing out the nuance of drafting vs development.
  19. Mmm clarity, even without the cheroot!
  20. In 2019 - We’re 17th! ‘It’s woeful!’ In 2018 - we’ve made a prelim! ‘The acquisition of Oliver was a master stroke, our recruiting has been ‘bang on’ And with the usual attrition of players not coming on as per all other clubs’
  21. do you mean the track watchers?? ?
