So, where to from here with pick 2?
Goodvibes replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm sure there's a joke about Tom's dad and squealing like a pig in there somewhere . . . . -
Ban the uploading of gifs and this site will be twice as fast. Well it won't but it would be a canny way to discourage the out of control obsession with the gif on this site.

Because it will be better than the B/C grade players other teams will offer in exchange. The key, as always, is the player wanting to return home and nominating us as their preferred team.

A third or fourth year mid from Gold Coast or more likely GWS is where I see our pick 2 being used. It only takes one of their better mids to want to come home and Melbourne is one of the rare teams to have both the pick and the salary cap space to make it happen. Shiel, Tyson, Treloar?

Edwards just signed a fresh contract at Richmond. Bugger.

Are we trading for Ash Smith?

Am I only the only poster on Demonland who doesn't have a source or access to somebody in the know?

We have to sign or trade Frawley prior to end of trade period
Goodvibes replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Or we could back ourselves in to win some games of footy. If we improve next year and Frawley can see a future, he'll stay. Throwing money at a problem doesn't always work. We don't want to be paying overs to keep players. We want them to be loyal and content to accept their market worth. We want to be paying overs in 12 months time to lure an A grade mid. -
Not a lot. He did mention that they'd spoken to all of the clubs regarding pick 2. Sounds like most will present some sort of offer over the next couple of days. Pick 2 has clearly generated some interest. It remains to be seen whether we receive bigfooty style Shaw for pick 2 offers or the Shield/Swallow/Crouch for pick 2 deals that would have us salivating. Let's hope for the latter.

I certainly agree that we need an injection of hard bodied, hard running midfielders, I'm just a little uneasy at the mindset that much of Demonland has that we should shy away from best available on draft day if they don't look like Luke Tapscott. I understand why Demonlanders have drafting scars but we've got to look forward. I'm comfortable with Toumpas over Wines and I'll be comfortable if we pick up Aish. I guess it comes down to the step after we become competitive. Do we want to settle for being respected and regularly finishing in the bottom rungs of the eight or do we want to win a flag? I've always been a journey man but I'm needing a flag more and more the older I get!

The Mahoney interview yesterday gave me real belief that we're already in line for one or two talent young mids. If we can nab one of Swallow/Shiel etc with pick 2 and also pick up a Savage or a Mitchie or a Greenwood to go with Cross then I'll be very happy. One potential elite mid and another solid B grader with a stronger body and an experienced, noted training machine who can't help but find the pill for a couple of years. I'd be surprised if we didn't end up with three midfielders from other clubs before the end of the trade period.

Our entire football department (with Rawlings and Mahoney as the exceptions) has changed. Player development over the past 10 years is now irrelevant. If we were to use our historical failure to develop players as a core organizing principle for the future then we might as well hand in our registration now.
-
If you'd seen him play you'd know that generations are irrelevant. What I love about our indigenous game is that unlike most sports, different positions allow for different body types and as much as scaremongerers talk about prototype footballers, I still see those under 180cm star on a regular basis and the GF showed that skinny natural footballers are still just as valuable as they were when Robbie graced the MCG wing.

He also mentioned that we were hoping to secure two or three midfielders. That's a fairly significant trade period.

Thanks Demonland - a constant in life!

We are and that's why when Crouch gets the Rising Star nomination in round 2 (Hogan will get it in Round 1) we'll again be bemoaning our round 1 choice whether it be Aish, Kelly or the second coming of Gary Ablett Jnr.

The only surprise was the narrow margin.

Yeah but he's an Eastwood fan. Deserves his 15 minutes. And besides, it is the silly season.

I think Demoneyes suggested he had a source at Foxsports. Is that correct Demoneyes?

If you're going to attack his intelligence, you might want to spell his name correctly!
