There's a real schoolyard bully mentality on Demonland at the moment particularly when newish posters contribute. It's getting really boring.

Brendan McCartney no longer coach of the Doggies
Goodvibes replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm waiting for the first club to appoint a 25 year old career coach who hasn't played at the highest level but can relate and communicate effectively with his or her players. -

I would too but if an appropriate midfielder isn't available I'd still be keen to use pick 3 on a player with 3 - 5 years experience who is gettable and has Clark-like/Tyson-like potential to move from being a 'B' grader into an elite player of the competition. That's what I think Clark did in his first year at the club and that's what I anticipate Tyson will continue to do over the next few years. If we couldn't find a midfielder to trade for would you use both picks in the draft or look for a mature key position player? -

We desperately need high quality players. The majority of the footballing world have Petracca going at number one. If we hang on to the picks, we'll probably grab Brayshaw at two. Who do we take at three? The next best midfielder? Most people now are talking about McCartin, Lever and Wright as in the frame for our pick three. We're into the second half of trade week and the Tyson-like deal so many have talked about over the past 6 months is seemingly more and more unlikely. If you had a choice between McCartin, Lever, Wright and Dixon, who would you take? Dixon gives us a proven forward who has the ability to play the second ruck role - a clear deficiency in our list. Dixon will be All-Australian the moment his body allows him to play a full season. Without wanting to stir emotions, he's the closest thing in the AFL to a 2012 Mitch Clark. -

I'd be offering Charlie Dixon 750,000 a year and Gold Coast pick 3. -

Not trying to be clever but where is it sounding like something might be announced tomorrow? -
I heard Woosha was schooled. We're still doing the fish thing right?

Something about her tugging on my fly . . . . Sorry.

I hear that people who go to jail often have to go to court first. How serious is his charge? -

Umm the game's on our racket but the ball is definitely in their court. If we can pull off another Tyson-like smash and grab deal then it'll be game, set, match. -

So who here is responsible? C'mon, own up! You even stole my incredibly poor 'Artist Formerly Known as Harry' joke from earlier in this thread. -

I just care about the movie script. After we break the drought and they make a movie, the Prince will be an awesome sub-plot. Like all stock standard rag tag team made good stories, we need to bring together an eclectic group of individuals. H is a good start. -
FWIW, Port supporter on BigFooty suggesting that Kevin Bartlett mentioned the contract details on SEN this morning as being 4 years with a trigger for a fifth and it being 700,000 a year. We live in hope.

Perfect start to trade week would involve Stretch getting through to our third rounder, Frawley compo confirmed as pick 3 and Clark trade involving both of Geelong's second and third round picks as suggested in the Age this morning. If we can then nab Harry for less than we get for Clark that would be a nice way to round out day one. Too much to ask for in one day?

So if Roos doesn't like drafting talls early in the draft, chances are we will be looking to trade one or two in. Frost is already well known to be a likely inclusion although I'm not sure how we're going to do a deal. GWS won't be using too many draft picks this year with their reduced list numbers and Frost doesn't look like being worth a pick they'll use but is still contracted I believe. Interesting situation. I'd be looking at the other expansion club. I like the idea as I've stated earlier to look for another established ruck, preferably Clarke from Freo but Gold Coast's Nicholls and Gorringe might be interesting options too. Nicholls obviously as a ruck option and Gorringe more as your second ruck and tall forward option. Not much talk about these guys. -
Came home like the proverbial freight train! Nice work lads. Do we ever lose these games?

I'm a big fan of Sewell. He's up there with Bob Murphy, Luke Hodge and Lenny Hayes as my most respected opposition players. And whilst the temptation is high to get such a quality individual into the club, I wouldn't do it. If Trengove is going to return to the seniors and Cross plays another reasonably full year and Kent, Toumpas and Salem are given opportunities to grow into reliable senior footballers with midfield time, I just can't see a place for another one paced player like Sewell. I'd be hoping for another established key position player (Frost and Clarke would be my preferences) and another young promising midfielder (like Tyson) with a couple of pre-seasons already under his belt. I like that mix added to one remaining high pick (2 or 3) used on the best available mid (Petracca or Brayshaw) as well as Stretch and the other draftees. I think Jones, Cross and Vince give us enough midfield experience.

How about the artist formerly known as Harry. Has subtle Prince connotations! -

Any Zac Clarke love on Demonland? -
It's really strange that he hasn't signed yet. It's almost like there's a club out there that has had him lined up from a long way out and is just waiting for trade week to commence.

We probably shouldn't link these two events but it's bloody hard not to. Good thing for Chip that he didn't plan on announcing his move tomorrow.

RIP Robbie Flower - Sad Passing of a True Champion
Goodvibes replied to KLV's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks for posting that amazing picture. I'm not much of a facebooker and rarely update a status but couldn't help myself tonight. I accompanied that fantastic image with the following words: "People often wonder how anyone can follow a team like Melbourne. This man was often the sole reason for so many Dees supporters my age to hang in there. It may well just be a game and he may well have just been a football player but when I reflect on my childhood it's often through the prism of football. I hope my kids can find an idol, sporting or otherwise, who possesses the class, grace and humility of Robert Flower. RIP Robbie." Jim's passing moved me but I'm surprised by how deeply tonight's news has affected me. It's a massive loss. -

Goodvibes replied to KLV's topic in Melbourne Demons
When I reflect on my childhood, it's always remembered through the prism of footy. Every day I'd be playing, or watching or talking footy. Integral to that of course was the poor, floundering Dees. Like many on here, I was the lone Melbourne supporter amongst my friends - possibly my entire school. So many young Melbourne supporters are currently being turned off footy because of our current woes. Why didn't thousands of kids my age leave the MFC back in the late 70s and 80s? It was simply really. We had Robbie.- 385 replies

The filter on Demonland is stuffed. How do posters get away with using words like this?

He could never jump but he was always pretty quick for a big man. Now he's lost a yard or two. Doesn't float my boat.
