  1. I got so confused last night. At about 9pm I tuned into ABC for an update, and they were wrapping up from the stadium, and crossed to news, then some other program. So I thought the match had been finished. But then I find out they kept on going, and there was no commentary from the ABC (which I love listening to by the way). Anyhoo, I'd say we're the definite losers out of that draw. Our lack of a frontline spinner = not good for Indian tours. White and Clarke didn't really bother any of the batsmen. As for Kumble, I think he'll give it one more shot (if he can). He's a bit stubborn and probably wouldn't want to finish on a match like that.
  2. Ok then. So I guess the ball's in O'Keefe's court then.
  3. What about maturity off the field? How can Brock lead by example when he does burnouts in his car?
  4. Nicely said. You're right, our logo is a corporate logo. The previous board tried to move the club to the corporate world, by ditching the demon and 'renaming' it Melbournefc. Almost every other club's logo is of its mascot (Carlton the exception I think). We need to bring back the demon (the way it was please, not the new one) I think, because, as you said, we're out of touch with the common man.
  5. Gave up on Ulysses WJ?
  6. Agree with all but Dunn. I think he could become a decent tagger. He did some good jobs this year (e.g. on Cooney), but he needs to learn to take his opposition forward if/when he has a height advantage (e.g. Harvey) Edit: actually, there's no guarantee that a late draft pick won't be better than Bell. That's a 50-50.
  7. Yeah, so good that Adelaide delisted him... He's not a good player. He's played 33 games in 5 years. He isn't up to AFL level. Drafting him isn't going to give us more wins next year.
  8. What I don't understand is how he has any choice. If he nominates for the PSD, doesn't that mean we are entitled to take him with our pick? Or does he sign a contract prior, or makes an agreement or something?
  9. No thanks. Could hardly get a game in a team with no forward line. He's been a fringe player for years, just the kind of player we don't need.
  10. India's 2/41 at lunch on Day 5. We need 8 wickets, they need 258 runs. Draw's still favourite, but if we can get Tendulkar out early on in this session, we're still a good chance.
  11. What a ridiculous thread.
  12. I don't think it would be right to give Green the captaincy after all this. But I'm not sold on Brock either. So maybe Bruce, or Miller for a smokey.
  13. 5/333 at lunch. Hussey 92. He is so damn unflappable. I think our run rate is going to hurt us, especially if Harbhajan keeps bowling negatively outside leg stump. 1.5 days in, I reckon Ponting would like a few more on the board. With no Gilchrist or Symonds to smash it, maybe White will show us some fireworks.
  14. Nudge and Deetention... Well done you two. About 20 different scenarios listed by Maurie, and not one correct trade.
  15. "MELBOURNEfc is pleased to announce that Brad Green has agreed to terms on a new three year contract with the Club." It also refers to him as 'Newly signed'. So I think he has officially re-signed.
  16. Are you kidding? Carlton gave up pick 24 and pick 52 for a largely speculative ruckman. Fremantle, who had no choice but to let him go, get pick 24 and pick 52 (the other two picks were just swapping in the 6th round). Fremantle is the winner here.
  17. Apologies MAY be accepted deestroyers.
  18. Prismall to Essendon Pick 38 to Geelong
  19. Warnock plus pick 69 to Carlton pick 24, plus Carlton's 4th and 5th rounds pikcs to Freo
  20. The HUN is reporting that the awarding of the 17th license to GC17 is not a formality, and, amid the financial crisis, the commission is going to consider it more: GC17 deal uncertain amid world financial crisis I wonder, if the license is denied, if the draft concessions will still go ahead as scheduled. If the clubs had known of this a week ago, maybe they would have been less reluctant to trade their draft picks this week.
  21. 'Elite'? I'd hardly call him elite. He's an unproven ruckman with potential: that means he could end up great, or end up a nobody. And, until free agency is cleared by the AFL, this week was set up for clubs to trade their commodities: draft picks and players. Not for players to move themselves around as they see fit. We could get much better for CJ. And I'd keep him before I delisted him. I think he showed enough this year.
  22. Disagree. Green shone this season compared to the rest of our players, not compared to the competition. O'Keefe is still a better player, and probably had just as good a 2008 without reaching his best.
  23. Return of cricket today with the first day of the first test of the Bordar-Gavaskar trophy. This should be a cracking series. I think India will win it too. Cameron White makes his debut, representing Victoria. Ponting won the toss, elected to bat. Zaheer Khan bowled the first over, and had Hayden caught behind third ball. Replays suggest the noise was bat on pad, not bat on ball. Currently 1/7 in the 7th over, Ponting on 6, Katich on 1.
  24. Yeah I agree HT. When you look at that, Melbourne are clear winners, and Sydney clear losers. Green for O'Keefe is definitely a loss, O'Keefe for pick 16 is about right IMO, and pick 16 and Taylor for Green is a definite win for us (even without Taylor). So you'd think Sydney would demand more than just Green, they'd be unlikely to take this the way it is. Unfortunately for us, I don't know if pick 35 would be enough. If we had a pick in the 20s, then maybe that would do.
