  1. Me too. If both were available at 11 I don't know which one I'd prefer. As rpfc says, though, we shouldn't take Talia just because he's a KPF. If the FD think Jetta's better (hahaha...) then we take him.
  2. Very odd selection. Murali is fading, Mendis is good but terrribly erratic, and Herath is just OK. Only one strike bowler, who's playing about his 4th Test. Should have played another paceman. A good example of that could be the Brisbane test last year. NZ won the toss and sent us in, then bowled us out for 214. That showed that to be a good decision. We went on to thrash them with a strong second innings, but that's more to do with their poor batting than their decision to bowl first. The pitch that day was a green top, and it showed on the first morning. Oh boy do I love statsguru. What a gem of a site. Here here. Keeps NZ cricket from being a total disaster. Just passed Warne for the most runs at no. 8. But yes, he was dropped on his first ball. Had that catch been taken Pakistan would have been batting before the end of play yesterday. Meanwhile, it's raining in Dunedin. What a surprise.
  3. Burgan's 2008 Phantom Draft: http://www.afl.com.au/News/AFLBlogs/BlogAr...px?newsId=70169 Got quite a lot of them right in the end (but amended his draft when the word came through that Hill was going at 3) Edit: And his 2007 Phantom Draft: http://www.afl.com.au/season2007/news/naba...px?newsid=53419
  4. For all those Jetta fans out there, it seems that West Coast is not going to take him at 7 any more: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/eagl...f-1225803474416 Matt Burgan also thinks/knows West Coast isn't taking him.
  5. More brilliant Indian cricket on show. 2/417 after 1 day. Yep, 417 runs in one day, and only 2 down. At least New Zealand pitches are good ones. 6/250 odd after a day. Pretty even that. I guess, Edgbaston in 2005 aside, when we win the toss and bowl first there's usually a reason for it. Batting first is the generic thing to do if there's nothing abnormal or extraordinary about the pitch, so even in matches against high quality teams (like the 6 we played against South Africa, where we won the toss and batted in all 6), there's not always a massive advantage.
  6. I'm not sure why he's so incredibly certain that Ball will get to Collingwood. Maybe he knows something no one else does.
  7. Gee, sorry I don't know everything about everyone. Up until I read that article, I'd never heard of McMillan-Pittard before. He hadn't really come up in discussions much on this website either.
  8. There's an article in the HUN today that says that there are a few clubs interested in him. I think he might get taken in the ND. If we want him we'll proabably take him at 50.
  9. Please do it. I for one would like to see you explain to me why Pick 7 is so good. I see no reason to make judgements on picks by comparing them to previous years.
  10. Good post. This is where I stand on this subject. We shouldn't be taking Talia/Black/Carlisle if the only reason for taking them is that they are KP players. If there is a midfielder available at 11 that BP thinks is better than any of those players then we should take the mid. Watts, Jurrah, Bate, Green for a few years, possibly Martin, Jamar pinch hitting, maybe even Garland, and then Wonaeamirri, Maric, Jetta and possibly Davey should hopefully combine well.
  11. I feel now that it's basically certain that we'll take Ball if he's still there at 18. It sounds like the club is really keen on bringing in some midfield experience and leadership. And possibly screwing over Collingwood. But I also feel that Port Adelaide at 16 is a strong chance to take him. I would really hate to see us take Ball at 11 because we don't think he'll be available at 18. Unless Ball is the best possible option at 11 (which won't be the case), we should wait for 18, and if he's gone, so be it.
  12. And I thought you were intelligent...
  13. Don't tell me you're a Lost fan, rpfc? If so, you and I have a lot of talking to do.
  14. I tuned in at 6.20 but they were talking about Olympic funding, with David Gallop and someone else advertised as being next to come. Did this happen?
  15. Then that makes me very, very, very weak. This is all good. But could it not be possible that the FD has decided that, if the best available player at 34 or 50 happened to be Thorp, or Tenace, or some other delisted AFL player, we might just leave them be and draft the next best youngster? Your argument sounds better though.
  16. I disagree with that. You can see tone in writing easily. But apology accepted. The last thing I want is for you to stop giving your opinions, but sometimes you force them down others' throats.
  17. Read his quote again: ''We'll be focusing on new players outside the AFL system."
  18. Have to agree with Barry here, rpfc. You may well be smarter, you may well have much stronger arguments than others, and you may well be right (you usually are). But that does not give you the right to make fun of and talk down to others, which you seem to take pride in doing. It seems to me (and Barry I guess) that every second or third post of yours comes across as rude.
  19. Betweeen 2000 and 2006 (inclusive), Melbourne was the best performed Victorian team in terms of finals appearances (equal with Essendon). We only missed out in 2001 and 2003.
  20. According to The Age, we'll be using all our ND picks on kids, unless we choose to take Ball at 11 or 18. Tim Harrington: ''We'll consider Luke Ball at 11 or 18. I think he'll be gone after that. But apart from him, we'll be youth,'' he said. ''We'll be focusing on new players outside the AFL system.'' This sounds like we won't be taking Thorp or Tenace. http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/rfnews/bl...8824626784.html
  21. Answering my own question: http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...37/default.aspx
  22. That's pretty sad. Which West Coast win was it? 08 or 09?
  23. 8. JASPER McMILLAN-PITTARD (18, Geelong Falcons, 186cm, 71kg) Who?
  24. You'd be better off doing number of games won, as opposed to ladder position, which depends not just on us but on other clubs as well. 8-10 wins, aronund 11th on the ladder More importantly, we will see significant signs of improvement. At least, we'd better.
  25. It's not just this season. Last season they came last despite having international quality players regularly in their team. The SCG pitch is a factor. But they don't play all their matches there. The Collingwood reference was that I feel the same way about NSW as a Victoria supporter as I do about Collingwood as a Melbourne supporter. Nothing to do with success.
