  1. Cats would want a first round pick for him. We don't have it.
  2. Getting a one year contract suggests that Goodwin has a role for him in mind, and one he believes he has the potential to do in the senior side. That could very well be as a forward pocket with stints in the middle, but whatever it is, he will be given every chance next year. Smart move by the club.
  3. Yep, super news this, and a decision that makes sense. Now that he has a full season under his belt he can have a dip this pre season at getting back to his best!
  4. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but I don't think we'll be major players in the trade period outside of getting Hibberd. Without a first round pick this year, and a feeling that we won't trade next years as it would have us out of the first round two years in a row, I don't think we can compete with other clubs for the likes of O'Meara, Prestia or Mitchell. I can't see the club trading away one of our future stars to get one, and our fringe players aren't going to get the job done either. The likes of Carlton, Richmond, St. Kilda and Essendon will all have a first round pick and it sounds like all of them are happy to trade them away. Again, this isn't a bad thing. If or when we get the Hibberd deal done I can see us sticking with the picks we have, or moving on players like Grimes and Dawes for later picks, and not doing much else. I think the club will back our youngsters in for improvements over the off-season and into 2017.
  5. Yeah, I should have clarified further that I don't want us to do it every year. I just think we're at a good stage where some extra experience will really help us moving forward and it seems like the right time to do it. Next year, in what they are saying is a strong draft, it would be good to hold on to the picks unless a good, young player becomes available.
  6. Not enough. Garland is useless to them with May and Thompson holding down the key posts, and while I rate Salem highly, he hasn't done enough at senior level as yet to be that 'quality' player they are after. If we went to them looking to get O'Meara, I could see them asking for an Oliver, Brayshaw or Petracca in return, which of course we wouldn't do.
  7. Absolutely. We will still have picks in the draft and, as you say, we got Jayden late in the draft. We've been very good getting players in the third and fourth round, so I'm sure we will have some picks there. I just think we can use our higher picks to get in some of that experienced talent to go with what we have.
  8. This is where I think we're at in the recruitment stage. We don't need more kids. I know some want us to go out and try and find the next 'Jayden Hunt', but we also need to realise that finals are a real possibility next season. We need more experience in our side going forward and if we can flip a few picks to get these players then I'm all for it.
  9. I can see plenty of appeal. He's a beautiful user of the footy. He is strong in a one on one contest. While he is not lightning quick, he has plenty of pace. He will bring some further experience to our backline and he is calm under pressure. With our club pushing for a finals place in 2017, we need experienced players coming in, not more kids. After trading away our first rounder for this year already, we can't land a big fish. So we need to add further quality to our side, and Hibberd is just that. Quality. You can never have enough of it. With the addition of Melksham our side is starting to look much more settled on paper.
  10. Don't mind the ins at all, but it doesn't matter much now really. Just hope the boys have a real dip this weekend in readiness for 2017. On Oliver - he is either gaining VFL eligibility for finals or he didn't play his role properly last weekend. 24 touches sounds good on paper, but if he's not doing the team thing defensively and running both ways then I'm not surprised he got dropped.
  11. Still? I was over it by Monday morning. Why waste time on it?
  12. I feel as though we have a few players who could generate third round draft picks that we might be able to package together to get another second rounder in this draft, particularly if we trade the one we have for Hibberd. Just a thought.
  13. I say this with all due respect to Grimes, but those stats don't show us how many of those handballs were hospital ones or to a stationary player, nor does it show how many of those kicks were turnovers or out on the full (which he seems to do at least once a game). Hibberd is a far better player than Grimes. That's just fact.
  14. If you had said, 3-4 years ago, that these two would possibly be delisted from the club at the end of 2016, you would have been laughed off the forum. How quickly the fortunes of a player can change. I love what both Grimes and Trengove have brought the club during their time here, but the game stops for no-one. It continues to evolve and change and it can leave players behind. You could argue that, for a variety of reasons, it has done this with both of these players. One has comeback superbly from injury, only to find that the pace of the game may have passed him by, while the other just doesn't seem to cut it in many areas of senior football anymore. It's a shame, but a fact of life. I'd give Trengove one more year to see how he goes. Another uninterrupted pre-season might do wonders for him, but if it doesn't, the damage is minimal. For Grimes, it's probably time he sought other opportunities. I'll be sad to see either of them go, but that's football.
  15. You keep dreaming the dream, Adam.
  16. He is just throwing it out there in the hope that people believe him. His ability to get on the park, however, puts that to bed. I had high hopes for Dawesy when he arrived at the club. I think he provided good leadership for the younger players and worked his backside off to get himself right, which unfortunately for him, he wasn't able to do. A club like Brisbane might look at picking him up, but with all due respect to him, I think his time at the club might be up.
  17. I know that, mate. I'm not trying to knock him at all. Far from it. But it's fact - he isn't ready. Hogan was, but Hogan is a different beast to Weideman. Now that we are climbing up the ladder we need to play our strongest side, and at this point in time, Pedersen is ahead and should be playing as a result. I'll re-iterate that I still see a big future ahead for Sam and I look forward to the day when he can play consistently good footy alongside Hogan and Watts in our forward line.
  18. Yes, it did. He had no impact on the game. Hogan, who was receiving the same delivery into the forward line, still found a way to take 14 marks and run out the game without any trouble. Weed can't do that yet, hence why I don't believe he is ready... yet. I have plenty of faith that his time will come. I agree with the last part Stuie, but that is where I would call that the 'long term future'. In the short term, he has a future and a role to play. Hopefully when his time is up we have the replacements well an truly ready to go!
  19. Weird timing, but it's still the right decision. All 4 need to be moved on and they need to look to the future. I'd look at Dal for a season as well, but I'm probably the only one who would. Can't see us going after any of these 4.
  20. I hope that one of the Weed or Hulett can step up next year, but if last week showed us anything, it's that Weideman is not ready for senior footy. That means, in the short term, Pedersen has a future with the club. I always come back to the saying that we have players on our list who will plant the seed for a tree whose shade they will never enjoy - guys like Bernie Vince and Cam Pedersen are those types. When we are pushing for a flag, they probably won't be around, but their experience both on and off the field will have been invaluable to the younger players as they come through. I'm certainly not trying to make Pedersen into some sort of superstar - he isn't. But, I still think he deserves to play this week and get another short term contract (2 years) as good insurance for the side. There are no guarantees that Weed or Hulett will be ready to take the next step this year, and having Pedersen as solid insurance for our shorter term future is vitally important. We are well past the years of playing the kids for the sake of it. We should be playing our best side each and every week, regardless of where we are at in the season.
  21. Long term future? Sure, I agree with that. But he is still part of our shorter future over the next 2-3 years. Well, I think he is anyway.
  22. I don't necessarily either Stuie, although it didn't stop GWS recruiting a 32 year old Steve Johnson who has been invaluable to players like Toby Greene and their development. These players still have a role to play in any football side.
  23. If you read through his assessments again, he literally goes out of his way to not give any pick a full pass mark. The Hunt one leaves me shaking my head - it's turned out to be a sensational pick, one I didn't even see coming, yet because there were other good players around it's just a 'good' pick. Baffling.
  24. No worries. I'll refrain from discussion about the omission of Hogan for Peter Wright...
  25. She is not printing any story. It was just her opinion of FC.
