I wouldn't be against it if he came for the right price. Still think he has a few years left in him. I've seen worse suggestions on here at any rate.

Not even Prestia's manager, Marty Pask, would go as far as saying Richmond has a talented group of players. Here is what he said: “If you look at Richmond’s core group of players and their ages, it was appealing for Dion to join a group of strong footballers in the right hit zone in terms of their age." He basically couldn't bring himself to say they were anything but 'strong footballers' and Richmond only appeal to Prestia because of their age range. Good luck Dion. You'll need it.

Not if he retires. I still think Lumumba can at least be a handy depth player who brings some experience to the younger brigade. We can't get rid of all our older players. We all know what happened the last time we did that.

5 year deal? I don't blame Prestia for jumping at that with his wobbly knees. I do like how the Tigers said they got their rebuild all wrong... so they throw away a high draft pick for an injury prone midfielder who doesn't fix any of their problems. Well done Tiges...

Is this how the next month is going to go? Every player delisted gets a thread? I'm just waiting now for the Jed Adcock thread where someone says that we need to talk him out of retirement. Ridiculous.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Wiseblood replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
All of that is great Saty, but as I said, my view had nothing to do with his contract situation at all. I'm purely looking at the footage - if it was hard pull on the jumper, or a long one, he would have been pulled to ground towards Bews. Instead it's a quick tug of the jumper and he falls, theatrically, the opposite way. He played for a free kick, plain and simple. That's not me criticising him, or blaming it on his contract situation. It's just what it is. -

Saty - I'm no fan of the Hogan bashing that's going on these days, but let's be realistic. If you watch the shirt pull from Bews it barely lasts a second and Hogan falls over as if he's been shot. It's not a good look. As LH said earlier, had he been doing the team thing he could have laid the shepherd and allowed Jeffy to goal. -
I'm sure he'll get over it. If Sanderson ends up being a terrific assistant coach to Goodwin, then I'm happy to Vince to be annoyed about it. He'll only be on the list for another couple of years.
-
That's not entirely true. Hunt was a late pick, as was Oscar McDonald. Even Tom McDonald was a late pick, although not from the Roos era I'll admit. Dean Kent was another later pick as well. Our higher end draft picks have certainly been better, no doubt about it, but we've also been very good with our trading and later picks as well.

Help! I'm so confused...

I don't know if anyone has added this, but Leppa actually asked the club to do it via phone if he was going to be sacked.

Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
Wiseblood replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Steve, You've made some great points in your post - many I agree with, but I just wanted to highlight your first sentence in regards to my own post. I totally agree that we need to add quality if we want the jump up the ladder we all hope for. However, it's being able to do it that poses the problem. Why I said we wouldn't necessarily be big players during this trade period is that we don't seemingly have the chips to be big players with. Without a first round pick this year, and our second rounder probably going to the Bombers for Hibberd, it leaves us with pocket change in picks. Who are the players we could let go that might get us better picks? I'm not too sure. We won't be parting with any of our talented younger players, and those we would be happy to part with won't get us much. Unless we get a godfather offer, or something else comes along that we don't know about, I can't see us being able to bring in high quality talent over others like Carlton, Essendon and Richmond. Not this year anyway. What we end up doing in this period is anybodies guess, but whatever move we make HAS to improve our list going forward. To do that we'll need to be very, very clever in terms of how we get picks or get involved in other deals. -
You're a good man, Adam. You'll look like a champion if he somehow does end up with us. I still think Richmond are well and truly in the box seat, but who knows?
-
The fuse is lit. By the way, I agree Clint. Pedersen has been a positive in our side this year, although his output in terms of goals hasn't been flash.
-
Ah right, so now you're going with 'semantics'. You'll do anything BUT give evidence to how we went backwards. I'm done. This is akin to banging your head up against a wall. Cheers.
-
No [censored], Sherlock. Again, how have we gone backwards? To go backwards we must have been worse than last year, when we still had those same losses. As I've said, if anything they just haven't progressed anywhere near enough this year, but backwards? Nope.
-
That's not what I'm arguing. Let me spell it out: WYL said our leadership team went backwards this year. I'm arguing that, with improvements in the win column as one example, that he is wrong. At no point did I say our leadership group was perfect, nor have I argued against the fact that we've had some unacceptable losses this year. Our leadership group still needs plenty of work and they need to learn how to turn the tide and influence games more. WYL has yet to argue why this year is any different to previous years - we had more unacceptable losses last year and even more in 2014. Let's not even talk about 2013. And what did our leadership group do when we needed to beat Hawthorn? What did they do when we were in a huge hole against Norf? These are just two examples of when they did stand up. Again, I'm not arguing that they need to improve in many areas, but the simple fact is that the leadership team DID NOT GO BACKWARDS.
-
You've changed the goal posts. You said it went backwards - how has it gone backwards in comparison to 2015, for example? If it went backwards we wouldn't have won more games.
-
I know what it means. As I said above, it doesn't mean we've 'gone backwards'. We've done some of the same things in previous years. When we've lost, they haven't given us enough. Can't argue with that. However, in some of our important wins this year, and there have been a few of those, they have done a terrific job. I won't argue that our leadership continues to need some work, but again, to suggest it has 'gone backwards' is wrong.
-
Sporadic doesn't mean 'gone backwards'. Trade period is always crucial.
-
Only one leader, Colin Garland, played for Casey this year. Not sure where you got leaders from. I wouldn't argue the point that our leaders, to an extent, have not made much progress this year. We still have losses that are inexcusable, but on the flip side we've had some sensational wins that our leaders have played a big part in. It works both ways.
-
I don't know how our leaders went backwards when we won 3 more games than last year. If anything they haven't progressed like we hoped, and I would agree with that, but gone backwards? No.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Wiseblood replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Weideman was invisible and Watts couldn't get near it either. Further proof that our forward line wasn't given an opportunity to impose themselves on the game yesterday. Well said. His last month, as you say, has been poor and he needs to work on his kicking over the summer. But the rest of his year, especially in the first half, was fantastic. That can't be forgotten in all of this. -
Agreed. I think he finished off the season quite strongly and is good insurance going forward. Doesn't bode well for Dawes, though. I can't see the club keeping both on for next season.
-
Not my problem if you took it personally LH, which is ridiculous by the way. Did I say that people weren't entitled to their opinion, or that I'm on the only one who has a positive outlook? Nope. In fact, for someone who normally plays a straight bat, I'm surprised you would suggest that I did. I stayed away after the game as I was hugely disappointed; not only in the performance, but in the way we sent Roos off. It was terrible, and I understand the frustrations many would have felt. I get that. Doesn't change the fact that this thread would have been terrible to read straight after the game.
