TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think if there is one thing the Geelong backmen have it's smarts. They are an experienced unit that often play beyond what you would think their physical deficiencies would allow. -

TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3
ArtificialWisdom replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, I'm a little toen on my rating of Smith. He plays some good and alot of average games. He was available last week and he wasnt picked... so that sugests Geelong doubts his worth, will be interesting to see how he goes. On Viney, I 100% agree. Danger is too quick for him. They either go with Vince or they just have to let him go. Nobody else can stop him. I'm not sure how to play Viney. He hasnt been great in either of the 2 games, maybe giving him the job on Selwood will be good for him. -
TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3

Max almost holds the result in his hands. Geelong doesnt have anyone to stop him. He just needs to get as many of his hitouts down to advantage as possible. If he can get 20-25 down to advantage then we will have every chance to win. If they start playing without a ruckman then i would expect Max to get 30+ to advantage. After that it will just be the small matter of not turning the ball over after we win it.... Should be a good game -

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-04-04/mckenna-set-to-miss-six-to-eight-weeks "Jay Kennedy-Harris (arm) – available" Surprised me too Edit: Just listened to the video report. He and White both playing in VFL this week

I would be much happier with this. Might actually result in some more consistent rulings if there was some accountability for the MRP. Currently there is no accountability at all.

Dees supporters the most passionate (by far)

Agree. Was having a discussion with a friend who barracks for Geelong. He wanted me to go to the movies during the Saints game in round 1 and I said no. He is so content to skip any random geelong game but couldn't believe I wouldnt dare miss a melbourne game even when I thought we would lose. I just asked him, what if we win? I wouldnt want to miss it! Clearly their era of dominance has him appreciating each win far less than we do. -
Appeals without risk of additional weeks!! Simplest and easiest change. Would improve the system 10 fold on its own. The club should have been able to argue a case that there is no way to conclusivly prove that Rowe's "delayed concussion" came from Hogans slap and not any of the other 50 impacts he had throughout the game. That doubt accompanied with the video evidence should have it downgraded to low impact and thus hogan be offered a 1 match ban. A very reasonable case. But they cant do that because that would risk him getting a 3 week ban. It's madness. Ben Cunnington also might have gotten off his ridiculous ban from the JLT if there wasnt the risk of an extra week. But I guess the AFL just likes it left so that people cant do anything but accept any ruling regardless of fairness.

Playing that small of a forward is a huge risk. I'd rather that than spencer but if we dont have uncontested possessions heading forward we will have no big targets to hit. I think we need someone who can compete regularly. Thats what Pedo is for. The have to enusere that the Geelongs cant take intercept marks, if they take marks down back we will have no hope. If Kent is to come in then ANB or Hannan should make way for him, not a knock on either, just Kent is better. -

Stynes, White, Jolly, Jamar, Gawn if there is 1 thing we can do it's pick a good ruckman -
haha yeah... damn Rance, where would they be without him?
-
70/30 maybe but Richmond isn't very good. If they beat WC this week then I'll consider changing my mind.
-
How early can you put money on Hogan kicking 5+ on Anzac day eve?
-
Forgive my arrogance but we should beat both Fremantle and Richmond with or without those 2. So no need to risk having them out any longer. We would only be able to get them down to low impact at best which means they would still be out against Geelong, so what's the point? Risk far outways reward. Edit: On that note, there really needs to be a facility for the club to got to the tribunal saying "we accept Jesse has done wrong and have no doubt he deserves suspension, however we also believe that labeling it as medium impact is too much". Why saying that deserves an extra week is beyond me. MRP is essentially blackmailing everyone into accepting whatever they offer.

A little, I think we will see this week when we play opposition who will compete better than the Saints did. Our defence suits Etihad because of the smaller space allows you to close down quickly in the zone but offensively I think our spread is still best suited for the G. I guess we'll see, the saints allowed us to do whatever we wanted with the ball, Geelong wont give us that luxury. -

Hogan out and people want to bring in Spencer to play his role??? Might as well give Gawn a rest and pay JKH in the ruck. Pedo is on our list as a backup to our key forwards. Picking Spencer over him just makes no sense. If they think that Smith is ready for AFL footy then they could go with him, but Spencer? wow it would have me seriously worried if they did that. -
This is the biggest joke about the whole thing. Melbourne should be able to take that hogan incident and argue a case that it is only low impact without any risk. They wouldn't be claiming he should get off, they would still be saying he is guilty. But for some reason that would mean he risks 3 weeks, catch 22.

Suspect Goody will too.
-
Callum Twomey reporting that Cripps suffered a minor Jaw fracture. That would explain 1.
-
And his switching kick, on the left if you dont mind, to Jones who goals in the first.
-
Listening to his post match I'm not convinced he agrees. He was pretty modest when rating his game. which isnt very max-like and he was quick to mention that Kreuzer played well. Also he didnt have the influence on the contest he generally likes to have. It's not meant as a big knock on Max he cant dominate every week, but this week he didn't, I'm sure he will be better next week.
-
I didnt say 8 defenders I said 8 behind the ball. Those 2 players are playing a very attacking role. But as I did say, we cant keep pushing that when we arn't winning the ball, that left 2 lose back for carlton and 2 of our players in no mans land having no effect on the game. It looks great when it works but it wasnt working at any stage yesterday... i just cant work out why it took so long to say "ok its not working today, lets bench it and come back to it when we get control"
-
Hogans efforts off the ball in the first 2 games have been fantastic. Hope he keeps it up, he isnt gonna score heavily each week, If he had slotted his chance in the 3rd then it would have been a good game for him.
