  1. I think this idea of a "modern game" is overused and misinterpreted too often. Many varying styles have won premierships in the past decade and will continue to. Reality is, it's usually the better teams in the competition that lead to what the "modern game" stands for. Obviously in some ways there are generalities about the modern game that make it unique to what it was in the past, but game style does not equal "modern game" IMO.
  2. I'd just like to clarify. I don't really think this is the danger game, I think we'll dominate the Bye. But they're a hard team to pull up from, and with only a 5 day break before the next game, it could be a worry.
  3. But it wasn't an "advantage," it was a "play on."
  4. The umpire put the whistle in his mouth when Martin decided to kick the ball. It was Martin's fault, as he may have thought the ball was touched, to play on and it shouldn't have been brought back (even though it cost me $180). The poor call, IMO, was Dunn's on the broadcast wing. He won a free, the ball rolled on, he kept running and took it and wanted to run off. The umpire called him back saying you have to come back over the mark. Isn't that exactly not what the advantage rule stands for?
  5. The new Bruce? Unreal. Joeboy, the guy had 27 touches - how much more prolific do you want him to be?
  6. Further to the post above, I'd like to add that the two semi final wins that teams out of the top 4 have had (out of 22 matches) have been the Hawks rolling Port at their choking best by 3 points and the Pies tying with an injury-ravaged West Coast. Obviously strange things happen in sport, but I think it's pretty clear that in modern footy team's don't really fluke premierships - and the ones that do are very good teams anyway.
  7. Your profile picture is different to your avatar. It's your avatar you want to change.
  8. Under the new finals system, I believe only 2 teams from outside the top 4 have made a prelim, and none of them have made the GF. That means that of the 44 teams to make a prelim since 2000, 42 of them have come from the top 4 and of the 22 teams to make a GF, 22 have come from the top 4. It's a very difficult competition to win from outside the top 4 and a large part of that is that, obviously, the top 4 are the best teams going around.
  9. Yeah, my mate was wearing a red and blue tie and nasty hat. Think we were on the telly in the last. Not even nearly recovered. 4 nights out, birthday win by 90 points. Oh dear.
  10. Had $30 on the Dees to be the highest scoring team of the round at 7-1. Posters, the siren and Stef Martin let me down. Still can't believe Davey's didn't go through.
  11. Ah, that you Mr. Nettlebeck?
  12. They should've picked Hurley.
  13. Are you equating assaulting a cab driver with being out drinkingat 2:30? My problem with the article is that it adds nothing to an old debate against a player who essentially cannot defend himself at the moment as he keeps developing. Guys like Robinson, IMO, know that Watts is still a few years away from reaching his potential and is well aware that when that happens relatively few people will recall his article. He probably wrote the same sort of garbage about Hodge and Goddard. I also find it strange that he's comparing a pick 1 to a pick 5. Would he not say that Hurley has shown more than Nik Nat or Hamish Hartlett?
  14. Poor kid. As the Rev would say - "footy sucks sometimes."
  15. My favourite moment of Hurley proving his love for physical contact was when he bashed a cab driver over 13 dollars.
  16. I've wanted to start an MLB thread for quite a while, but have never really got around to it. I suppose it's because I felt that with 2430 games per season (plus playoffs) per season, it'd be too hard to keep up with. But I thought I may as well make it and see what happens. Personally, I'm a White Sox fan. Hoping we can get to the top of our division on the back of a good hitting lineup. Unfortuantely 3 times already we've lost in the 9th/10th inning after leading. We're currently 5-5 in the top of the 10th. Anyone else keen?
  17. 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Fox Sports 1.
  18. For the fun of a lazy Wednesday morning, define star HT.
  19. Further to the post before - taking out the 6 most experienced players from each side (as there's been a lot of talk about "top 6" on here, which I agree with) Gold Coast's remaing 16 have played 52 games. Our remaining 16 have played 581. G.C. average 3.25 MFC average 36 It's probably not exactly right, but you get the drift. Indeed, if you take out the might of Nathan Krakoeur, I think their remaing 15 players will have 30 games experience leading into the weekend.
  20. But we still should have done it! Rah rah!
  21. A Watts thread? On Demonland? What a great idea!
