2015 Player Review - # 18 Daniel Cross
Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hear hear to everything said above. Cross brought us something that was actively discarded during the Bailey/Neeld years. The level head and composure that only years of experience can bring. 'Tis not enough to stack your side with youth, and "get games into them". You need Crosses in your team. -
I don't think McCartney will get the nod at Essendon as they will see him as damaged goods. Their recent expertise in dealing with genuine damaged goods has not mitigated their entrenched arrogance. I don't think his brief stint as senior coach qualifies him as a "coach mentor" for any club. But just in case ... I hope he won't be attracted to Essendon ... he's only just starting to see the fruits of his labour here. And he might yet end up senior coach of MFC.

2015 Player Review - 13 Jordie McKenzie
Mazer Rackham replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Two pages for a bloke who played one game? I'll take that as a tribute to a bloke for whom others have said it better. Gave his all, never shirked, makes you wonder what some others might achieve/have achieved given the same spirit and work ethic. Good on you Jordie, thank you for your efforts, and all the best. -
Grand Final Eve Public Holiday confirmed
Mazer Rackham replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
If taken purely economically, then public holidays are bad. Fortunately we are more than just a giant economy. We are a society! There is a need to "sharpen the saw" and some may simply need to recharge their batteries. We could go around in circles forever on "public holidays good/bad", but this particular holiday seems destined to miss the mark on the very thing it was created for: to celebrate the AFL grand final. A parade seen by no-one while the rest of the state either put their feet up or shut the doors for a day. It's hard to see it acclaimed as a winner (except by our leaders who are always prepared to eat a sh*t sandwich as a normal part of their duties). The only thing that can save it is a big crowd attending the parade, and ...... didn't we get that in past years anyway??? "Dan's Folly. First Friday in October." -
2015 Player Review - # 9 Jack Trengove
Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think anyone believes it is a fait accompli. Everyone knows it's a uphill road he's treading. But we're all pulling for him. (I hope we all are ...) -
Not to some of us

He wasn't a great mark at C'wood and seems to be worse now. He has taken the odd good grab but they always seem to be chest marks.

2015 Player Review - # 9 Jack Trengove
Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The biggest interest over the summer will be how Jack's tracking. Go Jack! -
I don't care if Dawes applies no defensive pressure whatsoever. Don't care if he never rucks to give Gawn & co a break. I don't care if he only gets 5 possies a game. Provided he turns 2 of those into goals. With the occasional bag of 3. His calf problem, if there is one, does not explain why he looks like he's playing volleyball with himself when taking a mark. First touch, set (to self); second touch, spike. For a key forward not to be able to wrap his hands around the pill is such a major deficiency that no other attributes can make up for it.

Puns.

That's not sarcasm.

THE SAGA CONTINUES - WADA APPEALS
Mazer Rackham replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting that Carlton used to have the same attitude. "We're Carlton and flip the rest" - S. Kernahan. But some of their old timers have gone and they're having a bit of an identity crisis. They seem to have realised they are just one of 18. Wonder if Ess will have the same revelation any time soon. -

It shows that young Xavier is either extremely wet behind the ears or is simply not up to it. Not a good choice by Little, who at that point was probably looking for #standbyhird cheerleaders rather than good decision makers. -
Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
Mazer Rackham replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have moved on. I now promise to exit the discussion and let you keep on moving on, continuously. -
Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
Mazer Rackham replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
Now you're getting it. -
Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
Mazer Rackham replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's real and it happened. "Not moving on" means trying to revisit it and redefine what happened and trying to get the AFL to do something about it. -
Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
Mazer Rackham replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
All right then. Kid yourself. -
Turn the sound off. You'll enjoy the broadcast much more.

Was out and checked the score in the 4th quarter ... holy moly! Well done Demons! Revenge against GWS. Going out on a win. Giving us a tonic to get us through the summer. Giving Cross the high note that he deserves. And it's fathers day! Yay for the dads.

Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
Mazer Rackham replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
North and Freo were setting themselves up for their best chance at winning the flag. A world of difference from setting yourself up to win the spoon. -
Dees should seek AFL Exoneration of Tanking fiasco.
Mazer Rackham replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
Let's not kid ourselves. We were done for tanking. The AFL finessed it so we were technically done for bringing the game into disrepute. If they had really done us for tanking, they would have opened themselves up for pain from statutory bodies for running a corrupt competition. But let's not revisit the past. It's as ancient as the emperor Nero now. It was unfair to single us out but no-one cares but us. Let's get on with the business of winning. -
Brisbane beating the Dogs. It should hurt but I'm too numb.

Great to have this bloke (McCartney) at the club
Mazer Rackham replied to Chris's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's not out of the realms of possibility that he's our next senior coach. After Goodwin cops a life suspension from the CAS. (I hope not, but it's possible.)
