Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Oh wow, man .... I'm imagining ... (background goes fuzzy and wobbles from side to side ......) Imagine there's good writing It's hard but you can try No drunken yobs like Robbo Or that Footy Show guy Imagine all the reporters writing useful stuff Imagine there's no gossip It's really hard to do Nothing just for sensation And no door stopping too Imagine all the journos canning facebook guff Yoo-hoo, woo-woo-woo You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day they'll join us And the world will be rid of scum Heavy, man! -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Footy journos of Australia, take note and--- footy journos? Oh footy journos ... where'd they go? ......... oh, they're all out the back chasing the next micro-scandal. Seriously, that article is the kind of stuff people really want to read, not the gossip rag [censored] about who's screwing who. -
And there's Bartel, his recent teammate, on the panel deciding whether to hang him out to dry or not! And Lethlean, overseeing the "independent" judiciary, strolls in to stick his oar in. But poor old Simpleton McClure wouldn't recognise conflict of interest if it took his newshound pencil and jammed it up his nostril.

I already do not care about the umpiring. I expect it to be outrageous and inexplicable, every match, regardless of which teams are playing. Someone on here, I can't recall who, gave the idea that the umpiring should be treated not as part of the operating of the game, but as a hazard like in video games. Maybe you pick up bags of gold coins or maybe a blimp will drop a bomb on you. You have to negotiate the hazards to win the game. It's not fair or even meant to be, it's just there. Watch any match and the number of frees let go is ludicrous. Whatever yardstick the umps are reffing to, it isn't the rule book. Their own rules, virtually disregarded. And then they pick a free out of nowhere. And this thing with the runners. Does anything show the ineptness of the AFL better than this? They're supposed to be on the ground only to pass messages, then get off. On, then off. Mostly off. But it's the opposite! They stay on the ground all the time and only go off to get instructions from the coach, then back on again. The AFL have allowed this to creep in. Their rules are being abused and perverted. Do they care? Seems not. Only when there's an uproar. What do they do then? Probably nothing except let it die down, then resume normal programming. Does it affect revenue? No? Non-issue then. Does it affect ratings? No? Non-issue then. The AFL are corrupt and they don't care.

Demons rise up in the betting odds

Those bookies. They love a zero sum game and aren't interested in profits. -
Demons rise up in the betting odds

In no way are the odds representative of percentage liikelihood. Much more to do with money actually bet. (Specifically, hedging to reduce payouts.) But even then ... the bookies have their own assessments (based on computer projections using a range of models) of what's likely and they will shorten the odds on anyone who is actually likely to win it, and lengthen them for those who they think isn't ... to lure in the mugs. -
"What a disaster! Now this game will be a blowout and it's going to make it very hard for us up here to make it entertaining. Because let's face it, we're the real entertainers around here." Geelong.

The AFL talks a good game on "integrity". Burke should have been sacked from the MRP 5 seconds after saying that. Any comp that cares about fairness and integrity would do it. Ah! Now I see my mistake.
-
Lethlean has a cheat sheet of excuses he can roll out. "Head is sacrosanct ... let's see ... head ... sacrosanct ... ah! Here it is! Well, you see, it was within 5m of the ball." He has one for every occasion.
-
Bingo. Sometimes I think you need people on it who don't even know who the players are. EG, which ones are the stars and which ones not. Shouldn't enter into it. (It feels dumb typing "shouldn't enter into it" when it's so damn obvious to the whole football world except the AFL and the MRP.)
-
The MRP must be sending a secret message that Wood is in contention for the Brownlow. Get on now before the odds shorten.
-
It's worse than that. Imagine if the law was run like the AFL MRP...... Judge 1: "Aw, he wouldn't have meant to rob that bank!" Judge 2: "He only robbed it a little bit!" Judge 3: "Listen fellas, I was in a gang with him last year and he's a real top bloke." Judge 1: "That settles it. Twenty years hard with all twenty years wholly suspended, no conviction recorded, and costs awarded against the police."

They didn't try very [censored]e hard to get Salem off, or Hogan, or Lewis. Do they understand what they are there for? Sounds like they're as [censored] up as the umps in knowing what they're actually supposed to do.
-
Even Brereton said, with regret in his voice, that Shuey had to go coz you can't run past the ball to give someone the business. I note Salem got a week for less than what Selwood did, If Rance wasn't staging, then what is staging? Do you need a girl dressed up as Robin Hood creeping up behind you with the audience chanting "OH, YES HE IS!" It's beyond a joke. WHAT!?!!!?!?!? Words fail. Sack him on the spot. Sack them all. The AFL is a corrupt comp. If I hadn't foolishly invested years of nervous energy and emotion into the Demons I would have walked away some years back.

Big "IF" here ... that we end up in the 8 .... but at the rate we're accumulating nagging injuries (Tracc, Hunt, Watts, Jones, Nev, Vince spring to mind immediately), a pre-finals bye might come at just the right time for us.
-
We'll know what their real attitude is by whether Bugg does it again or not. I don't think it's needed. He's an annoying little Bugger on the field as it is. Where it counts. Doesn't need any extra "up your nose" material. It open the gates just a crack for US-style "trash talking" which is a blight on sport. No thanks.

Funny comment on bigfooty. A St Kilda fan said of the 2nd quarter dust up: Why would these kids go Jack Viney. Do they have a death wish?

The time has come, the Walrus said To talk of many things Of shoes and ships and ceiling wax And a big bag for Jack Watts -- Lewis "6" Carroll

Enter "Richard" Wagner.

Fuggen hell. There is no such thing as MFCSS. Glass of wine, cheesy nibbles, and Demons giving a football lesson from start to finish, Anyone enjoying this?
