Anyone recall the prelim final '97, Adel v Dogs. Goodwin's first season in the AFL. All I remember about that game was the Dogs strolling it in, 4 goals up with 10 to play or something, and the Crows hauled it in. They just didn't give up. Ran, ran, ran. At them and at them and at them. I imagine that would have had a big impact on a young player. I was thinking about that when I posted last week about how we "swarmed" all over the Dogs. It was a lot like that. (In my memory at least.) Sat nite, we did it. Just didn't give up. At them and at them and at them. Is this a hallmark of Goodwin's style. I think it must be. We've seen it in parts in most games this year. We saw it in its purest form in the Dogs game. We saw in against C'wood. They don't have any game plan but to be "intense" and "hard at it" and they brought it that day. It wasn't enough. WCE threw it all at us, thinking we would break. Do a Melbourne and give up a 4 or 5 goal lead in the first, game over. We did a Melbourne all right. New Melbourne. Goodwin Melbourne. I reckon this will work very well for us. Reputation counts for a lot. All the clubs are watching. Future opponents, if/when they can't break us, will fold. Because they know what's coming. And a good thing too. We can't go 110% for 4 quarters every match and still put a fit 22 on the field. Lots of players are carrying injuries. Hopefully this is a phase where we establish ourselves and can use the threat of being Goodwin Melbourne to win, rather than having to actually do it for 120 minutes. (Interesting that every week we are putting a different 22 out there because of injury and still manage an effective combo. The dark days of gifting games to NQRs because we had no one else suddenly seems light years away.) We will see a different mindset from the oppo now. They know they have to lift to play us and win. The shoe is on the other foot. We're not trying to beat them so much as they're trying to beat us. Beating Goodwin Melbourne turns out to be a difficult thing. GO DEMONS!!!

"Yeah so you should with all your draft picks"

And Collingwood. Don't forget Collingwood. I heard they're a successful team too. -
Hopefully you pointed out to your BIL that it's a pretty rare thing to drop a 3 goal lead in 5 minutes. Also wondered what would it feel like to support a club that dropped a 3 goal lead in 5 minutes. In case he's absent minded, do it again. And again. After each goal, do it again. Can't be too careful.

Are you trying to use logic and common sense to analyse this? Big mistake. The MRP care nothing for your "logic" and "common sense".

This is one of those moments when someone's got to stand up when it counts. The umps will just have to find a way to win. They should look to last night for inspiration. Who will be their Jack Viney?
-
For starters, they've got the best midfield in the comp. They're killing it in the AFL fantasy points! And some bloke there takes a great grab every week, that's gotta count for something.

Well there shouldn't be a countdown clock in the first place. But there should be a shot clock. Crazy that a player lining up wouldn't know how much time he has. Now for the AFL icing on the cake. There is nothing in the rule book about the 30 seconds. Not a skerrick. Nothing about when it starts (when the players takes mark/get free kick? or when the umpire points out where the mark is? or something else?). This is the worst season on record for umpiring, because the ump department has them working off a set of rules do not exist, except inside someone's head. (Even then they don't know whose head.)

Bartel didn't play for WCE so he's a chance to get off

I hope Tommy frames that and keeps it on his lounge room wall.

There will be crisis talks over this. Too much complacency. They thought they just had to show up and the free kicks would pay themselves. Time for Lethlean to show some leadership and demand a 4 quarter effort. Anything less than 30 frees and a 2:1 ratio will be deemed unacceptable.

Poor Lynden having a shocker. What a relief he's playing for this successful team.

Only if Cwood kick another couple The percentage for this game (at 92 v 62) is about 150.
-
The best midfield in the comp really giving Port a football lesson today.

When you're finished with that, try not to murder a policeman and then destroy his id cards to prevent identity theft.

That's a good start.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well the Beatles inspired Charles Manson and his "Helter Skelter" murders so it's possible, even likely, that they inspired the MFC board to sack Norm Smith as a trial run. -
All these articles about MFC players ..... is this what RELEVANCE is?
-
Let's think now ... why ..... why ..... Could it be the possibility of more $$$$$$$ ? Interesting that AFL will sting clubs to be in it. What will the AFL do with the extra $$$$$ they hope to generate from it? Give it back to the clubs? Grass roots, country footy, etc? Or bonuses for the execs?

You're not wrong! Ooh la la!!! Apparently this picture was hacked from his facebook page.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 14
Mazer Rackham replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
On Kent. Goodwin has shown his hand loud and clear. No passengers. He likes a style that I call "swarming all over them". That's what we did to the Dogs. Swarmed all over them and didn't let up. We did it do C'wood, to Adelaide. Have done it for periods in most games this season. That's why Hannan gets a game over Kent. Kent likes to take his foot off the pedal. That's why Harmes is in the team. That's why Bugg is getting games. That's why Watts had a rocket put up him in the preseason. Guys like Hunt, Harmes, Hannan are bundles of energy with hurt factor, in more ways than one. And show full buy-in. -
