Interesting thread, the last time I had a 'discussion' like what we've seen here I was accused by certain mod's of having a vandetta against them. It's just a pity they're unable to see the obvious, it's made worse by the fact that the culprit is better than this. He's intelligent and does understand the game well, it's just so obvious that he deliberately winds people up. Nash describes it as 'robust posting' but it's more than that, it's a form of cyber bullying and it goes against everything that the site stands for. He's been like it since the start and it's a pity that nothing will ever change because he's mates with the owner of the site.

Fair enough, he wouldn't be my choice as I value onfield performance quite high for a leadership role. Your response was alot better than I thought it was going to be and I've learnt a bit more about the kid that I didn't already know
-
It's true that it's a rumour?
-
Dunn? *Raises eyebrows* I'm curious why you think he's leadership material, what's your reasoning colossus?
-
Co Captains: Brad Green Brock McLean Vice Captains: C.Bruce J.Rivers N.Jones I think our leadership group for next year should be completely different to this year but as the players are responsible I doubt that it will change much. McLean is now ready to take the mantle, he is easily our most consistent performer and will lead by example but as he's still quite young give him a season or two with Green to take the pressure off. Green also deserves to be rewarded for a strong year. Picking the VC's just demonstrates how much depth we lack in leadership qualities, Bruce will probably get the nod, Jones will eventually get the gig and Rivers is a big chance if he can get through the pre-season without another injury.

Davey for pick 4? Where do I sign!!!! I highly doubt that anyone would be willing to hand over pick 4 in a strong draft for Davey and if they were then we should jump at the offer. I'm not saying that Davey is a hack, because he's not. I just don't think he's worth a top 4 pick.

/sigh I missed that thread... Edit: aww crap, I even missed the article on Melbourne's website

Ahh, I forgot about Moloney. Bad for tweak, good for Valenti.

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/demo...4073341424.html "Melbourne's Jack Grimes, picked at No. 14 in the 2007 draft, has been placed back on the club's senior list and will be hoping to play his first game for the year at Sandringham on Sunday" This is great news, I can't wait to see this kid play but I'm not expecting him to be dominant stright away, I'll be happy with him just getting some game time and building his fitness level. I presume that this means that Valenti drops back off the list? Not so good.

Out of all of these reports that I've read this last one seems to be the most honest, it's definitely a refreshing change.
-
My guess (and it certainly explains my hope that I had for him) is that people were hoping he'd be ok simply because we had no other young key forwards coming through to replace David Neitz.
-
He'd be a real asset to the bulldogs with their rotating forwardline, as he can play as a leading marker and also further up the ground. Sure he doesn't have great lateral movement and I don't think he is a traditional CHF type but his skills will come in handy in the future years.

lol, go right ahead. Two seasons ago I went against the tide here on demonland and made the statement that he wasn't, and probably will never be, a key forward. Most people disagreed (very agressively) but I was proven to be correct. He's been in the AFL system now for four seasons, four uninspiring seasons. He's yet to find a position that he excels at, he's doing reasonably ok as a tagger however he doesn't get anywhere near enough disposals, and in modern footy run-with players also need to hurt the opposition goign the other way. His disposal isn't fantastic, he doesn't have the footy nous to win the ball and he has also shown a tendacy to pull out of a contest. As I said earlier if he makes it it's a bonus, but I'm happy for the club to persevere with him for the rest of the year but his long term future doesn't look good unless he completely reinvents himself.
-
Whoa there, I'm not saying that he can't do those things, just that up until now he doesn't do them often. From what I've seen his kicking is not great, not terrible, just not great like Rich. This I believe is the easiest thing to improve. In the u/18's he hand passes alot, which would suggest that he's been coached to do it. I haven't seen enough of him to get a good look at his contested marking, can anyone on here who have seen a fair amount of him venture an opinion? The footy nous one is a bit obvious, he's still very raw in terms of our long he's played the game, obviously he's still learning the game. Compared to other young players from other countries who took on the sport at a late age, let's say O'hailpin at the blues, he's miles in front.
-
Cox gives a tremendous boost to his team because he is basically a bonus midfielder, it's like the Eagles having one extra runner on the park. The opposition team have to give him respect or else risk getting cut up through the middle, this immediately puts them on the back foot. I think you underestimate the impact that an agile ruckman who is a hardball/clearance specialist and can tackle as well as anyone else playing the game can have on a team.
-
I understand what you're saying I'm all for playing Dunn however I wouldn't put him in the skillful category. Dunn is most likely going to be a lost cause, I just can't see him playing at a great level to be in our next finals push. This year though we've got a great opportunity, not many teams can afford to play a group of players who are not up to it, hopefully with some confidence and luck he can get better. If he does it will be a great bonus, but I won't be shocked if he doesn't.
-
Dropping Dunn would be a mistake at this time, after four years in the system the only way he's going to develop is game time for Melbourne. Putting him back to Sandy would probably just kill off his confidence. He has many faults but he isn't alone in that category, let's just see how he goes for the rest of the season. One thing I'm happy about is that there are no longer the cries to play him as a key forwward on this forum....
-
Reread my post, I didn't bag you nor your opinions, I just think that we have a pretty good opportunity to get a couple of good picks very cheaply
-
Really? Gee I never realised that Don't underestimate a team with a bunch of 1st rounders desperate to get Queensland players with experience onto their list.... One thing I'll acknowledge is if there is anyone who completely understands silly posts on demonland it's you
-
I really like the look of Naitanui and I've been on his bandwagon since last year, however....the things that concern me about him are: 1. Contested marking 2. Kicking 3. Footy nous. This kid is an athletic freak so there's nothing to say that he won't develop all these areas and his ongoing performances have shown that his capable of dealing with the pressure on him right now, everyone he plays will want to beat the number 1 kid in the land so you can bet he has to work bloody hard in each game I'm sure if the draft was held tomorrow he'd go first.
-
If we trade Petterd it will be to the GC team, we'll get a 1st rounder for sure, possible add Miller to that as well.

Demon3, I sort of understand what you're saying however I think you've taken this discussion to heart too much. From your posts you appear to know the family reasonably well so you're obviously emotionally attached to the topic, nothing wrong with that. You just have to remember that this topic will always be discussed amonsgt footy clubs because of the father/son rules. If the young lad isn't interested or up to it then his performance will reflect accordingly and no further discussions will take place. Unfortunately for the kid his father is still in a high profile job in footy so even if we restrain from posts he's always going to attract media attention, especially if he performs well over the next couple of year. On a personal level the thought of a skilled version of Todd Viney running around in a Melbourne jumper is a dream come true, Viney was one of my favs and I admired and respected him greatly. Just try not to take these topics too personally and respond to them in the spirit that they're meant, we're not wanting to put too much pressure on the kid, it's just hard to not get excited about one of our past greats' sons playing good footy. Just imagine this place when Lyon's kids hit 16!

The best thing to happen to the brothers is for them to get out of the fish bowl that is Perth. Cale will benefit from being at a club who has little understanding of his families footy influence and their previous poor reputation, he can start afresh and stamp his own influence on the game. Regardelss of all that they are all icvery talented, but it's know that we've ended up with the best brother for a change!

It would be nice to see Valenti get more games but I'm not overly concerned, in Jamar's situation perhaps Bailey wants to have one last look at him before delisting him at the end of the season.

Do you mean like Jim stynes?
