  1. Not sure about the egg on face calls... I think it's fair to say there have been many players who have received rising star noms who haven't gone on to be great players let alone 'stars'. Oscar has battled away admirably this year thanks to Dunn and Garland losing their starting spots. I wouldn't say Oscar has starred in the role. He has definitely settled into it though over the last month and I'm seeing less mistakes which is a positive. Hopefully he has a big year in the gym and brings some new found aggression next year but his speed of foot and mind still worry me.
  2. Injuries and umpires basically. ..... ... ......... What?
  3. Salem and Weed-man would be my ins but as the overwhelming majority have said, it's hard to see who comes out. Last game of the year at the G and what should be pumped up as a final goodbye to Roos from MFC supporters, it would be fitting to see Hogan and the Weed lining up at CHF and FF. A real sign of the future. Carlton are pretty light on in terms of KP players unlike Geelong and with Weitering a bit sore after the weekend, this would be the game you'd play them in. Pedo would be mighty stiff if that eventuated however. And I have no idea who'd come out for Salem. But I always feel safe when the ball is in his hands at the back half of the ground. (As opposed to many of his team-mates). Whatever the case, it's just a really nice to not see this on paper anymore: (Round 1 three years ago) B Lynden Dunn Tom Gillies Daniel Nicholson HB Jack Watts James Frawley Colin Garland C Jack Viney Jack Grimes Jimmy Toumpas HF Jeremy Howe James Sellar Colin Sylvia F Shannon Byrnes Mitch Clark Cameron Pederson FOL Mark Jamar Jordie McKenzie Nathan Jones I/C Matt Jones David Rodan Luke Tapscott SUB Sam Blease Edit: Only four of those names feature in our current best 22 side.
  4. Still vividly remember hearing it from the grandstand end up on the fourth level. Was sickening.
  5. Also, it must be said: We have had an unbelievvvvvvvable run without injury. We just keep getting through games completely unscathed. I don't remember a year like it.
  6. Great win and now we're really building. The feeling will be infectious for our young group and I can't wait to see us at the G next week with a big Melb crowd. What is so pleasing is that when guys like Hogan and Viney are down, others are bobbing up. These are the kind of waves we need to keep riding. Huge.
  7. If you ever want to see serious improvement from this side, you best move past that kind of spin. They're just shitty excuses used to forecast a potential loss and for some reason it seems to be the norm around here. The dogs have a list almost as young as ours, they have been massacred by injury, yet they back their effort up every week. I'm sick of lame excuses. You think we'll be flat after our best win in nearly a decade? Give me a [censored] break.
  8. Port are pretenders and if we play with the same intensity and attitude as we did last week with the skill and execution to match, we should win this game. I just wish we could make a statement and win this one as well as next week's game and fly into the off-season on a high. Hope the players come out and play like it means something.
  9. Supporters are always quick to make up their minds about players who have been on lists for years but have had limited exposure at AFL level and haven't shown a great deal. I'm certainly guilty of that. However, GWS as a club are an outlier. The obvious reason being that they possess so much more talent on their list than any opposition club within the AFL. In fact it's a joke how much talent they have. There's a reason their seconds side win by close to 100 points a week every week. The club is a gold mine of talent and we'd be mad not trade for players who would complement our group. Will-Hoskin Elliott is exactly the 'type' of player we need to inject into our midfield mix. We're a really heavily contested midfield group, we're certainly not quick and it's clear to me that we're now at the stage of our list building where we can introduce these specialty type of players and give them really defined roles. The contested part of our game is sorted. Good thread and good post, I'm all for having a dip at him.
  10. I know he has said all of that. But I couldn't in my wildest dreams ever see someone like Fyfe leave Freo. He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy to leave. Unless of course he had a fall-out with the club.
  11. Was a fairly obvious re-signing that was always going to happen. The kid is 20... Is he an important re-signing? Sure, he is young, has shown some signs of improvement and we're incredibly low on key position players. Will he be anything like Alex Rance as posters suggest? Not on your life. Barely anybody within the AFL has the physical attributes that Rance possesses. Rance's only weakness early days was his decision making and skill execution skills. And they are now long gone. I'm not sure why posters try to compare players who are worlds apart in their makeup from both a physical and football skill-set point of view. I'm completely on the fence with O-Mac at this point in his career. He is a young developing player who has shown both some good and bad signs as a player. We'll see what he becomes in time.. But Rance? The best defender in the league? No.
  12. GNF, love your work. Wrong thread I know but what have you heard regarding Hurley as a target?
  13. Landing Hurley would be monumental. And whilst others have suggested Saturday's win would help at least raise eyebrows for opposition players thinking looking for greener pastures, it could also all be undone if we turn to water next week and the week after. But yes, landing Hibberd and Hurley would propel us into the 8 next year. (One would think).
  14. Agree wholeheartedly. If we finish with a bang, it'll certainly send a far different msg to players considering their options than if we were to just roll over again next week and heaven forbid, lose to Carlton. This is our mini finals series right here and now. These last three games. Send a [censored] message Demons.
  15. It's just another glass half-full/half-empty sitch. Oscar has some tools. He'll improve. There's no disputing that. But unlike some on here, I think he makes too many errors during games and it's some of the basic stuff that doesn't necessarily change with 'development' as we've seen with players like Grimes, Garland etc etc. I mean, I hate to nit-pick but his handballing alone is possibly the worst I've seen of any player on our list bar Spencer. Technique, decision making, speed, timing. That's only a handball I'm talking about. For a player of his development (or lack- there-of), he has been thrown to the wolves and he has battled admirably. I won't deny that. But there is no way he would be playing AFL level footy at this point in his career had we had some quality key position pillars on the list. It certainly speaks a whole lot about Garland and Dunn and makes me wonder what and how they're feeling playing VFL during wins like Saturday's. And also whether or not they'll play for us again..
  16. (Just like when we lose big), when we win big, some really outlandish comments are made. Jack Watts to be captain? I love what he's been able to do this year. But srsly.
  17. Don't care about finals this year, I'm just hoping yesterday's monumental win will be the platform we can now launch from. We're now positioned to finish the year really strongly and hopefully it'll snowball into next year. We are still so incredibly young so like others, I'm not even sure we'll make finals next year. Yesterday definitely put a knock to that though.
  18. Agree, definitely has the attributes we're missing. Injury has also had it's say on his career to date. Perfect winger for us.
  19. Can't wait for when they hit the 100 game mark. Petracca could be anything.
