  1. Oath. So over this scenario. Seems to be a recurring dream
  2. Disagree majorly. Kelly is not soft in the slightest for a player of his profile which makes him even more valuable. He is a gun and would be a top three player in our side immediately. I reckon the footy department would have no qualms whatsoever about throwing $800k a year at him if he was keen on coming to us, that would be an absolute no-brainer. He is exactly what we're missing. However, I highly doubt he wants to leave GWS when they're on the brink of winning a flag, let-alone come to the AFL's most yoyo form side being the MFC.
  3. That's not true. He is hit and miss, like many players on our list. I like many of Zak's qualities, but kicking is not one and if we're bringing in players next year, I want all of them to be able to use the footy. It's the most glaringly obvious weakness that we possess throughout our list.
  4. Great potential, wheels and certain skills but kicking remains a problem. Along with so many. He wastes many kicks going inside 50 that should at the very least be to the advantage of a forward target.
  5. There seems to be much discussion about why it is we as supporters continue to see a trend in these particular games. Why is that yesterday, I was almost able to script what was going to happen before it happened? I knew we'd fight back after our poor start but I also thought we'd end up losing even if we did come back. It's all so familiar. In my view, it's really simple. Not since the Daniher days have I seen us really hurt the opposition with consistent, quality ball-movement. Sure there have been glimpses, but never game after game after game. I have similarly never seen a really rock solid back six who consistently perform under pressure, make the right decisions and kick well more often than not. Again, I see glimpses of it all coming together. But I see it come undone just as quickly. I implore posters and supporters to watch the entire first quarter as closely as possible and look at why Hawthorn were able to get a roll on after their first goal. You see, we play as a mistake-ridden team far too often because we have an abundance of individuals who make mistakes far too often. Basic, fundamental errors that occur far far too often. For all the excitement and potential we see with our young brigade, we also problem areas with those players one of which is ball use by foot. But supporters don't like to talk about that. For all the quality pieces of play that Tom McDonald, Dom Tyson, Jack Watts, Tom Bugg etc do, they also do things that should rarely be seen at AFL level. But supporters don't like hearing or talking about those things. The easiest thing to spot yesterday early on in the game was how many mistakes we were making which allowed Hawthorn to get into the game. They punished us after we made mistakes because they still possess quality players who are extremely damaging by foot. Rioli, Gunston, Hodge and Bruest are all examples. I don't care that Nathan Jones butchered the ball a bit by foot yesterday because he rarely does it. What I care about is the same [censored] I see almost fortnightly year upon year with a certain bunch that just doesn't seem to change. Here are some examples: - Basic mis-kicks and handballs to the wrong option. - Ball use going inside 50 - Four or more defenders going up to spoil the same ball resulting in an opposition score - Not killing a ball in the air as a defender - Dropping an uncontested mark as a defender - Lacking in general intensity and urgency in and around the contest
  6. I immediately regret my decision to quote you all. I am not amoosed..
  7. JKH is named in a forward pocket. You know how team selection works right? Starting 18 are the starting 18. The interchange are the ones that are up in the air.
  8. I was only paying my respect by replying to @Vogon Poetry. ]I hope the best for Tyson and if he is playing this week, I hope he has a huge impact for us.
  9. Was it some random caller? Or was it one of the program hosts? There is a monumental difference in the size of the salt grain depending on whom.
  10. I'd be interested to know who gave him the two votes, because both coaches would obviously see it from different angles. If Worsfold gave the two votes, he may well have noticed the quantity of possessions Tyson had rather than the quality. Being opposition coach, he spends the entire game watching his own team play, rather than what individuals from the opposition are doing. If Goodwin gave them, then it'd be different. Regardless, I still maintain that his game was far from damaging and due to the ball pinging back and forth throughout most of the game thanks to awful turnovers, it's really not that surprising that Dom was able to get more outside ball last week given the amount of times players would be out of position. To me it helps explain why he had such a high uncontested possession count. Like Oscar McDonald and many players before them both, sometimes circumstances mean that individuals are given more leeway than others at AFL level. That is a fact. I called for Oscar to be dropped after a handful of ordinary games in which I thought he wasn't offering the team enough as well as making too many mistakes.. Posters laughed it off with the typical, "you hate Oscar McDonald/Goodwin clearly doesn't agree" yadayada. And now similarly, I feel as if Dom isn't providing enough of a positive influence (disposal count aside), yet he is being persisted with just as Oscar was. The only thing that I have continued to say is that I believe Dom will be playing at Casey soon enough if he continues to play the way that he is. * As an aside, I'm interested in knowing how far you extend your belief that if knowledgeable footy people have a view that differs from yours, they are most likely right and that you should consider their position before dismissing it? Generally, those who have played at higher levels seem to be spoken about as the ones who hold the most knowledge. Does that extend to a supporters forum like demonland? Putting egos aside here, there would obviously be plenty of supporters on here who have played at very high levels of football and would have therefore been exposed to a far greater level of detail within the game etc vs those who haven't. Surely their handle on the game would be superior to someone who hasn't played at that level and had the same experience? I'm of the assertion that the higher the level you play, the greater the understanding and knowledge of nuance and detail you have for that subject/sport. However, you don't need to be on the inner-sanctum of an AFL club so-to-speak to be able to see whether a player is having a visibly positive influence and contribution to a team's performance when dissecting each individual possession and disposal they have. Even if they get two coaches votes or even if they are still holding their spot in the team to this point.
  11. The game will never be any good because no company will pour money into something so niché to make it any good. It wouldn't sell a copy outside Aus. Having said that, I do have fond memories of AFL 99 on PS1 where it was basically a matter of who could avoid holding the ball the most for the entirety of the match. No matter where or when you picked up the ball, you'd always be kamikaze-tackled by a player.
  12. No I can't explain them. But then again, I can't explain why Hurley got equal most with Oliver. Do you have an opinion? Or prefer to throw in with whatever the coaches say?
  13. Honestly. People will throw the most basic of logic out the window in order to try and back up a point. Tyson has played less games and has therefore had nowhere near the disposals that those three stars of the game have had. Yet he still sits equal third? This clearly means that Tyson is making far more mistakes per match than those three genuine match winners. I don't wish to be labelled a Tyson a hater. Because I don't hate him. What I value on a football field is meaningful disposals, possessions and play. If supporters haven't noticed, Melbourne sit on top of the disposal count ladder. Yet we're sitting 3-3 and 8th on the ladder. If disposal counts were as important as so many seem to believe they are, why are we not on top of the ladder? The way supporters go on about Dom's disposal count is as embarrassing as me saying that we are the best team because we average the most disposals a game. This year, we have opted for a high possession game and it's plainly obvious that we overpossess and are also wildly inefficient with many entries going inside 50. Given this, a single player gathering 29 touches in a game doesn't necessarily excite me. It's what they do with those possessions as well as how they're gathered that is of interest. Dom is an inside ball winner yet he had 5 contested possessions on the weekend. He had 2 tackles and 11 turnovers. 11! Viney, Oliver and Jones had 8 turnovers between them. He had 9 inside 50's. Is that good? Well, given his disposal efficiency was below 70% they can't have been that good. And watching the replay I can tell you that they weren't. I don't need to look at these stats to back up what I'm seeing. All I care about is the effectiveness and meaningfulness of disposals and possessions. And in my view, Dom is the least damaging and least pressure providing mid that we're carrying at present. And as I said with Oscar, if this continues, he'll be back at Casey in no time.
  14. Please refrain from talking about my mother on Internet forums.
  15. Exactly. In fact, close demonland down entirely. It's pointless.
  16. Look. It's a funny stat. Watch the reply and decide for yourself what counts as a 1%er.
  17. Richmond though lol. Running around thinking they'd won a grand final against us last week after we were two players down for an entire half of AFL football. They are truly a joke.
  18. Happy to make him earn it. Frankly, I have been unimpressed with his up and down games in the past. (That's not exclusive to Pederson though). He was also carrying too much weight and has been ever since he got to our club, regardless of what Satyricon says. Clearly he can now covers the ground a lot better and no doubt it was something that needed to happen for him to be able to challenge for a best 22 spot.
  19. Tom McDonald's kicking - Could go anywhere (Seriously. wtf is his action. He kicked an inside-out torpedo goal. He couldn't do that if he tried).
  20. Hibberd is clear as day evidence that kicking skills, decision making and general attack on the ball are all qualities you either have in spades or you're lacking. ie - the fact he missed most of the pre-season with the main group counts for nothing. He straightens us up to no end. I love the guy.
  21. Tyson is our 22nd best player at the minute considering he is still playing. Another average game both by foot and in his inability to consistently impact throughout the game. We're carrying him atm.
  22. I haven't seen the report you mentioned at the bottom of your post, but this ^ particular quote doesn't make sense to me. Right now, sure our finals chances and therefore season in that sense is right on the line. But saying that we have little choice but to play Petracca is a scarily careless thing to say given the history of his knee and the fact he copped a knock to it. I understand I don't know the details of how sore it is, only that there is no 'structural' damage. But if we play him underdone and it makes things worse, I would literally walk into the club and demand an explanation. One thing I do know is that if you heavily strap and area, (Petracca's knee for instance) whilst it protects and stabilises that particular area, it also means that the muscles surrounding the knee are then under a huge amount of stress which creates a risk for those particular muscles. Whilst it's obvious I can't definitively conclude it, I wouldn't be surprised if Gawn's hamstring injury wasn't at least influenced in part by the amount of strapping he had on his knee. And I know from playing myself and having strapped my knee for two seasons that I became incredibly sore in my calves and hamstrings after games. More so than without the strapping.
  23. Can't even imagine what it'd be like at that age and living so far from home let alone being a young AFL star who has been under constant media scrutiny. I'm sure I owe an apology somewhere in there too. I wouldn't blame him if he took more than a week off. Hopefully this strengthens the bonds and friendships he has with his team mates and they give him their all with the their support.
  24. I'll please myself and bring it up in any thread that is of relevance. I don't mind that you disagree. But it's the basis of your disagreement that makes little sense to me. His pre-season was no more more interrupted than that of Hibberds. So how does your logic stack up? Fitness is one thing. Touch, decision making skills, disposal etc has little to do with having an interrupted pre-season. They have footballs in their hands nearly every day.
