  1. We were more efficient in the end and made them pay on their turnovers due to our pressure. Our pressure was still high even when we made errors and turned the ball over. We seemed to be able to win it straight back.
  2. How damaging are his disposals, clearances and inside 50's? What is the end result of them? They are the important questions. Not the volume or number he is amassing. They are the questions that should be asked for any player and it's the reason I don't particularly rate Tyson this year, (save for his game on the weekend).
  3. Gawn will come in for a sore body and we'll definitely be playing Pedo given his form. I won't even be surprised if Weideman comes in, given the talls West Coast have at their disposal. I think people forget that we're one of the worst ball moving sides in the competition which spells disaster against a tall, marking side like West Coast. Last week they had Mackenzie, Schofield, Barrass, McGovern, Darling, Petrie and Vardy as their talls. Kennedy could come in for one of them this week. That's seven marking talls. We will be murdered in the air if we don't bring in Gawn and potentially Weideman. We still tend to bomb away in our forward 50 and whilst it came off yesterday against the dogs, much of that was to do with their undersized defence. West Coast will just sit back and lap it up if we bomb long without talls to help bring the ball to ground.
  4. Unbelievable coaching effort and execution of instruction. We played as a unit the entire game and completely smothered the dogs game. One of the best team wins I've witnessed. We're equal 4th. #daretodreamdees
  5. Today's result was attributed to manic pressure and intensity at the ball and ball carrier at all times. We sustained that kind of intensity for the entirety of the game today, something we haven't done all year. It was incredible. When you play that sort of brand of footy consistently, it takes so much pressure off your own players and makes your team look a million bucks. As an example, our defenders were able to see the ball coming in like beach balls such was the pressure on the kick, so it allowed so many of our defender to have strong games. Similarly, our forward-line seemed to function well due to the areas we were turning the ball over in. (Our forward-half). We still clearly need certain attributes and players in areas of the ground to help. I mean Frost's kicking at times from defence is proof. That was under little pressure. And we're all aware of the composure issues O-Mac, Frost and T-Mac have when the opposition aren't under immense pressure when entering their 50. We need a key defender with a similar set of attributes to Hibberd. He is mostly always composed, no matter the stage of the game or how much pressure he is under. I'm certain we need another key defender to really solidify our defence. The three we have are way too flakey. But as I said, when your team and especially your midfield apply that much pressure for the entire day, it makes everyone look good.
  6. Best complete game he has played without making too many errors and no diabolical errors. Strong in the air, intercept marked well and generally used the ball well. Have got to thank the work and pressure of the midfield also. Makes it easier for defenders to play well, especially key defenders. Hopefully he continues this form next week against a tall West Coast side.
  7. The ball is completely in his court, Adelaide have no say in whether or not he chooses to come back to Vic. Only that they'll have a preference of club to deal with depending on who has the better hand. From the articles that I've read, it'll be family and girlfriend that are the deciders. I don't care why we pay for him. If we land him, it'll be a game changer for our club.
  8. If there was a medal for the most misleading stat within the AFL, this would be hot favourite.
  9. Disagree with the long bombs. Sometimes, it's necessary to hit up short and there were a few occasions on the weekend where there was a shorter option inside 50 who would then have had a shot on goal rather than hoping for a spillage. Sometimes he kicked to the fat-side where collingwood had outnumbered us. Those situations can actually be more dangerous due to the risk of a quick counter from the opposition. Pendlebury's first kick to Greenwood is the perfect example. He kicked to space and to the advantage of three collingwood players and Greenwood was the one who marked. He didn't just bomb long in hope. I can't whinge because of the enormous value we got for a pick that late and I love every other aspect of his game. I understand Pendle's has sublime skills. But my point is that anyone can kick to space and lower the eyes. Pendles kick was smart and composed more than anything. I also like that he becomes visibly annoyed with himself when something doesn't come off. He is a super competitor and clearly wants to improve. Can't wait until he hits 100 games.
  10. Haha. A clearing kick that happened to find a Melbourne jumper? I guess some might say that's clever.
  11. http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-14/how-a-former-don-is-steering-the-dees-to-finals Of equal importance to Jack's finishing skills was Hibberd's last minute diving spoil against De Goey that not only disallowed what could have easily been a goal to Collingwood, but presented us with the opportunity to go end-to-end and put the game beyond doubt. Which is what eventuated. The picture is amazing. What's not so amazing is how another AFL journo can so easily muddle up De Goey with Treloar. Really amateur given it's their proffession. Anyway, Hibberd has been monumental for us this year. An enormous moment.
  12. It's horses for courses. Three changes due to a combination of form, matchups and change of ground. Rotations are normal for teams going into a three week block of six day breaks back-to-back-to-back.
  13. I'm sure I'll be potted again but Dom Tyson for me just isn't cutting it. He is racking up ball, but if you compare the type of possessions he is gaining and the quality and meaningfulness of his disposals vs others in our side, you'll see that he's simply not damaging enough. He was fumbly, caught out on the counter due to his pace and he genuinely could have lost us the game when he had the free kick and kicked long directly to three collingwood players. (Hibberd's desperate diving spoil saved a mark coming back in which resulted in Jack's winning goal). Along with his lack of positional versatility, I can see him being squeezed out against a speedy dogs side on a fast deck. I'm hoping Gawn's fit and can rotate forward with Pedo to cause some headaches for an undersized dog's defence. I'd also like to see Trac play deep forward in patches next week. Ins: Gawn, JKH and Stretch Outs: O-Mac, Tyson and ANB On notice: Harmes, Lewis, Melksham and Frost
  14. True. But I'm a Melbourne supporter and have been programmed to think otherwise.
  15. Jack's winning goal on Monday was easily one of the best moments I've witnessed in footy, given what he's been through. And as others have said, the roar was incredible.
  16. His worst game on Monday, by a mile. The positive is that we won and he's now got an opportunity to have a response game in an arguably more important clash. I really am only expecting one win over the next three rounds given our continual one-quarter lapses. If we continue the trend, none of the next three teams will be as kind during those lapses. Any of the dogs, WC or Sydney could put us to bed in one quarter if we stink it up like we have been. I'm confident that our best can match it. But I'm not confident that we will play our best for long enough.
  17. I said that about his past month. Not Monday's game.
  18. An honestly ridiculous post. Especially your last sentence. Any player who continuously makes errors, is slow to react and looks completely and utterly out of his depth like Oscar has over the past month will be criticised. There's a reason why he was named on the extended bench at match selection. And that's still on the back of being three talls down. (Spencer, Gawn and Hogan). To me, that says a lot. He is young and will hopefully develop. But not all players come on, which is something some supporters fail to understand. There are no guarantees at AFL level and if you're a later draft pick, it generally means there are some knocks on your game unless you had a severe injury during your draft year or some other special circumstance that meant you were taken late. Both McDonald's were late picks and Frost was a rookie. None of them had serious injuries during their under 18 years so therefore they have more obvious weaknesses to their game. Examples: General footballing specific skills for Frost, skills of Tom McDonald, speed and awareness of Oscar. They're weaknesses. If you look at the other lines we have, we're stacked with high end picks. Midfield and Forward. Which is why we see players like ANB, Stretch, Kent etc in and out of the side constantly. They don't have the same room to move as Oscar does on game day. We have much more coverage and higher quality coverage at that. An important point that is often missed when the Oscar debate sparks. Oscar will continue to be "bagged" until this problem is resolved. Which will without a doubt be by the start of next season
