  1. It's about the quality of player you are. If you're a high quality defender, you're going to know how to combat 7+ cm in height. May and Hurley are both 193 cm but are better than any defender we have. They use their bodies, strength and timing to outmanoeuvre taller opponents. The height issue is overtalked. Of course, if there is little pressure on the ball carrier coming in and the kick is too good, no defender will be able to stop that. There are no elite defenders in the league that stand at 200cm.
  2. ^ SEN Adelaide correspondent. Honestly, the only reason these guys get gigs is to spread rumour and innuendo from their 'sources'. I'm not saying Lever is going. But the amount of times these SEN nuffies like Denham and Smith etc get these things wrong is absolutely comical.
  3. Nobody knows anything, I'm not sure why you've drawn a conclusion from the fact you haven't officially heard that we're targeting May.
  4. I find it bewildering that supporters of the same team can see such polarisingly different things when judging an individual's game. Oscar in this instance.
  5. Do not underestimate the significance of Jarrad Grant's unavailability.
  6. Yeh, it was poor. But he has credit. Is in the top handful of key defenders in the league. Let me know when Oscar reaches that level.
  7. You're right, there aren't a lot. Doesn't only have to be FA however, they can be coming out of contract or even still have a year running. Liam Duggan and Darcy Tucker are two I'd be looking at. Robbie Gray is a restricted FA 2018. Maybe we have someone in mind in this years draft. Let's see.
  8. How many examples do you need before you come to the realisation that every club's list and line profiles differ in depth and quality? Why do you continue to overlook that clear piece of evidence in this argument? There are a multitude of examples across the AFL both past and present where players who may be underperforming are continually picked due to a lack of positional options available. It is obvious to most that we have a lack of quality and depth in our key position back stocks, which clearly allows Oscar a much greater margin for error compared to that of one of our midfielders for example. Let's say an ANB, Harmes or Stretch. Tom Barrass is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. A young key defender drafted a year before Oscar McDonald yet has played less games due to West Coast's key back depth. He's been allowed time to develop as he should at WAFL level. After a strong start to the year (much stronger start than Oscar and if anyone watches non-mfc games you will agree), he has been omitted for the first time this weekend on the back of one poor game. One! So yeh, the point is, players can be selected in a starting 22 even if their form doesn't warrant it. Oscar is that guy at the moment.
  9. Yes, he was easily this good in his best year at Essendon. It's upsetting that you don't know this. It only confirms my concerns that so many supporters on here are one-eyed. There are good footballers out there everyone. Outside the walls of the MFC. There are some really good players. Paging @Satyriconhome
  10. Tyson was literally useless until the tide turned. And the turning of the tide came from Nathan Jones, our skipper. Tyson got involved once the ball got rolling and as others have stated, he is a front runner. Watch how hard he runs forward compared to when he needs to chase. And as for turnovers. ^ I guess some supporters will see only what they want to see. He is floating at the moment and is lucky to be in the side.
  11. Oscar takes an intercept mark. Was thinking posters would be straight on to me about it. Alas. He misses a 15 meter target under no pressure yet again that nearly results in a shot on goal if not for Hibberd's calmness.
  12. Lol. Today we have both Steven May and Oscar McDonald playing. I hope posters can now see that we need a player like May. Once again, I wonder what on earth anyone can see in Oscar McDonald.
  13. You watching today's game? And you reckon asking for players with strong ball using ability is asking for Utopia? And no our greatest concern is not in inefficient conversion from good entries going inside 50. We have an innibility to use the ball efficiently from all areas of the ground. Whether from the backline, midfield, going inside 50 and even converting shots on goal as you said. The quality of our entries going inside 50 are actually incredibly underwhelming so I disagree with you on that.
  14. That goal was from T-Mac. Handballing. How hard is it?
  15. The first catastrophic error goes to Frost. Frost and O Mac, let's see how they fare today.
  16. We are the third or fourth worst ball-movement side in the AFL. Jones has many admirable attributes but ball use at this stage isn't one. There's no way in the world the club would give a first rounder for him. That's a Richmond-like move. I'm far more interested in players who will boost our ball use through the midfield. Run and carry is all well and good if it ends up in a scoring opportunity. I mean, Hunt's ability to break lines is great but he still butchers it or struggles to finish his work when he fails to kick to the advantage of our forwards. He is inconsistent with his finishing. And Jones is in that category. We need a serious injection of skill and class through our midfield imo and there are others we should be targeting for that reason.
  17. I'm sure it's been said but I thought Hannan's game was a huge positive against the Roos. A poster predicted that the Roos game could be a breakout game for Hannan, which eventuated. 10 points to that poster. I really like Hannan, has a great blend of attributes and was the game he needed for a confidence boost and knowing he can now play at the level.
  18. Everyone in the age has tipped us to win. That's 23 tippers. Gold Coast really aren't that bad when on song and we can be really bad when we're not on song. It's a flip of the coin match.
  19. Of course it reflects well on him! Apparently he is in our top three most important players... I still think the poster that thinks the fact that Oscar plays 92% game time must rank him in the top 30% for endurance takes the cake. I mean, they're both ridiculous stats. But I'm having a good time reading them.
