The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
stevethemanjordan replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, it actually reads okay for the stocks available.. Happy for Gawn to swap with Fitzy there too. Much better without Byrnes and Pedo. They literally offer us nothing. -
It's a professional sporting club. There's a team that are paid to look after those things so people like myself and other posters shouldn't have to bring it up. This isn't the amateurs. It's the AFL. Your response is indicative of the type of supporter you are. One that settles for mediocrity. This will be the last time I post to you. Kisses.

Haha I said it would come... Congrats on being the first to make the extremely exaggerated, over the top and obvious sarcastic response to my post. Nobody saw it coming..

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
stevethemanjordan replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Absolutely agree...There were many positive signs over pre-season, but the thing that none of us saw coming was playing without our three key forwards. Clarke, Dawes and Hogan all being out, and the extent of their injuries is potentially the most disastrous thing that could have happened just before round 1. None of their injuries are easy to overcome and it seems they'll be out for an extended period of time which makes playing each game for the rest of our playing group look very worrying... If we continue to lose because of this heartbreaking scenario it'll only contribute to Frawley questioning further whether he'll stay and I'm sure others who are becoming sick and tired of being part of this club. Hogan is another who may question.. While I'm trying to remain as positive as possible, I think there's the potential for things to spiral downward again to a similar nightmare that was last years season... If this were to occur - as in - we started losing games by hefty margins again because of our non-existent forward line and lack of quality through the midfield, then Roos and Jackson would have no option but to consider extending their contracts in order to somewhat calm what could potentially be another extremely damaging first half of the season.. I'm not jumping the gun yet, but I'm sure everyone, supporters, players and coaches are all thinking about this in some capacity. -
Such a small thing but you'd think at AFL level, these things would all be done promptly. It still reflects where we're at as a club in my opinion. No matter how insignificant it might be to some. They have a website. They have player profiles. They have a whole department working on this stuff. We're at round two of the 2014 season and they've still got last years photos with last years jumpers and sponsors on. As I said, there'll be people who don't care one bit about this, but you've got to question what the media/digital marketing team do with their time..

Love your work PSD

Sure he was speculative, but many here thought he would have had a relapse, and that's the reason they didn't want us to go near him.. Dayle Garlett will have benefited from even the short time he was in what would have been an extremely supportive and nurturing environment at Hawthorn. I hope it's helped him mature and I wish him well for whatever it is he goes on to do with his life.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
stevethemanjordan replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm with you... Maybe not on that particular quote but the lack of transparency between the club and it's supporter base is pretty disgusting.I mean, what the hell is the point of the 'injury update' hosted by Burgen when Misson gives us absolutely nothing. Misson's response, especially when it comes to Dawes' injury is absolutely pathetic. They should either tell us what is really going on, or not give injury updates at all. Dawes clearly has some ongoing injuries with his 'leg', why do we continue to read 2-3 weeks.. Why is everything kept so quiet. Shits me to tears and expect more as a paid up MFC member. -
Dean Terlich - Good player or defensive liability?
stevethemanjordan replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes I understand all of what you are saying. Structures and roles are clearly important. I am just continually frustrated with supporters believing that the spuds on our list can play a 'role' and contribute to team success. They can't. And they won't. -
Melbourne Vs West Coast Round 2

You expect someone who has been on the list for as long as he has to be hitting targets and the scoreboard a hell of a lot more than he does. 22 possessions and hard running means very little.. -
Dean Terlich - Good player or defensive liability?
stevethemanjordan replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, I understand all of that but I'll pose this question to you. At what point does thelack of ability to execute the fundamentals of the game outweigh what you're saying... Which is that if players play within their limitations and make decisions based on their limitations, they can play a role? I'm not sure if I'm articulating my point well enough. I feel as if you too easily excuse players who in my opinion do not possess nearly enough attributes to contribute to team success. You can't just have a bunch of 'role players' who are extremely limited in their own ability but are designated a certain task and expect us to be magically better as a side. Role players can also be extremely damaging footballers whilst performing their 'role'. The whole 'role' argument is ridiculous RPFC. Roos has alluded to it, media have alluded to it, everyone is aware of it. We do not have a enough quality footballers on the list. It's plain for all to see. Now with Terlich, people bang on about his kicking, but it's really not that bad. He makes bold and risky decisions and is a good user of the ball. He's a great attacking player and Roos is now getting him up to speed with his defensive work. He's also a solid contested mark for his size. He has several strong attributes to his name, which makes him a valuable player for us. When it comes to others whom I won't bother naming... They do not possess a range of attributes. Perhaps one or two, but then their other attributes are well below where they need to be to perform at this level. We have too many of these types of players still running around. It doesn't matter what damn 'role' their given. They need to provide and contribute more, and they done. Meaning we need more quality on the list RPFC. It's obvious. Salem is one, who if developed and nurtured correctly, will replace one of the spuds I'm talking about within the next year or so. We need to constantly address this. Forget the 'role playing' rubbish. -
Dean Terlich - Good player or defensive liability?
stevethemanjordan replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
The talk of Terlich's questionable disposal is absolute nonsense. He is fine 90% of the time. He struggled last year more because nobody spread and he'd always be trying to avoid kicking to a contest. If much rather that than have Pederson continually blaze away under 10's style. Terlich is one of our most aggressive and ferocious players, is smart and can use the ball. Is is easily in out best 22. -
Roos and Betnie can go up at seasons' end and have a chat to him. Wish list for the season. Frawley to sign on Hogan to sign on Roos to sign on longer than the three A definite improvement in performance and a rise up the ladder Sign a big name player like Danger at the end of season Mitch Clark to be completely over injuries and be ready to have a full pre-season for 2015 Too much?
-
Throw everything at him. We need to continually improve the list as well as inspire and influence players like Frawley to want to hang around. If we have a decent enough season, it's a possibility. We absolutely need players of his calibre on the list. We still have a huge gap between our best and worst players. We need a more consistent side. God damn Roos, just sign a 5 year deal already and turn this club around for good.
-
JKH for us this year, but that's really only because of circumstance. We have no smart, agile or skilled small forwards. Byrnes is on his last legs and nobody else on our list plays that position as naturally. He'll get the most games out of our draftees. What excites me most is what Roos has already flagged. The need to develop and nurture our first year players properly. I'm really looking forward to watching Salem's progression and development this year at Casey with the pressure right off. Same goes for hunt and even Toumpas and Viney at stages this year. Looking forward to the day where our list is strong and stable enough for young players to have to wait and play consistently well before being given a game. I can't remember the last time we were in that position. There'll be more trading before that occurs though. We still need a talent top up on top of Vince and Tyson from this year.
-
Rest peacefully Dean. Shocking news. Thinking of his family and friends.
-
Yes, well I guess most would share the same view if they had careers that lasted 1 year, but thankfully they're much longer for top end talent and I'm more than happy to reserve my judgement and not make any ridiculously short-sighted ultimatums about who we should have picked. I don't underestimate it. I've been pretty transparent about that. Just because I've restrained myself from judging who we should have picked after a year of football doesn't mean I underestimate competitiveness.
-
My grasp is absolutely fine but your attempt at belittling didn't go unnoticed. Cheers. I'm certainly not underestimating a players natural competitiveness or aggression. I am of the belief that certain players can overcome a fear of body contact through a number of practices which is clearly why you think I am underestimating someone's natural competitiveness. You're simply implying that it's black and white and I disagree. There are plenty of footballers who have drastically improved their mental application to the physical side of the game. Jack Trengove is one. He's said it before in an interview, and he's certainly not 'soft'. You bring up Fyfe, maybe you didn't watch him during under 18's. Competitive beast you say? Ha. I'll give you the Wines one as someone who clearly loves the physical stuff and always has. Same goes for Jack Viney. However if you think you've seen 'enough' in Toumpas to know that the pick was a 'mistake', than I think it's you that may not have a 'grasp'. There's every possibility that Toumpas will be more comfortable with the physical side of the game when he develops his body further, plays more games and works on his mental application. Nobody is suggesting he'll magically adopt Viney or Wines' fearless approach.
-
To wait for a young kid to build his confidence and body in order for him to play at the best of his ability? Yes, we do jackaub.
-
Morton and Gysberts are the two that came to mind. Not that Gyaberts was seen as much of an outside player. He was more just an accumulator at 18's in my eyes. Same with Morton. Neither of them had the class that Jimmy has. Toumpas has elite foot skills and footy smarts. Morton and Gysberts didn't possess an elite attribute.
-
Yes, I can understand why you feel that way WYL, perhaps because we've been burnt in the past with similar drafts. We've opted for the outside mid rather than the bull. I rate Ollie highly, but I think you should look at this case in a different light to some of the older ones. There's reason to. The only things in my mind that Toumpas needs to work on are building his body and working on his mental application. Everything else is there for him. It's clear he is not an inside player. But when he builds his body, we'll see a more confident man. Which will also influence his mental application in a positive way. Just wait this one out WYL.

Practice Match - Melbourne v Hawthorn @ Casey Fields
stevethemanjordan replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Modern day ruckmen need to be able to do far more than only tap work. That's the least of Spencer's concerns anyway. The guy cannot do the basics. The bare minimum. He drops marks, fumbles has a terrible kick and not a fantastic footy brain. I'm not here to have a go at him. I'm being brutally honest in my assessment and any non-biased supporter would say the same thing. Gawn and Jamar are clearly our preferred choices for ruckman as they each contribute a wider range of attributes. Spencer may improve his 'tap work', but that doesn't affect any of the other glaring deficiencies in his game. At AFL level, you bother have the time nor the resources to have someone on the senior list who needs to improve so many areas and attributes in order to be a 'decent' player. Spencer is getting a gig because nobody else is fit. We all know that. There's nothing to debate. He'll continue to play until Gawn and Jamar are fit. -
The only advantage wines has is that he's built like Arni and therefore is obviously going to have more of an influence early on in comparison to an outside runner weighing in at under 80kg. Toumpas is nothing like Morton for anyone concerned. Nothing like Morton.
-
I'm looking forward to coming back to this thread in 3 years time. By then, we'll see Jimmy getting plenty more of the ball, he'll be much more confident in himself and in his body as it will be bigger, stronger and harder. He'll be a very damaging outside player for us. No [censored] Wines is ahead of him now. 186cm and already over 90kg 19 year old playing in a side full of confidence and with a super midfield. See you in a few years.

Practice Match - Melbourne v Hawthorn @ Casey Fields
stevethemanjordan replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
These are the posts that confuse me. Nobody is or has disputed that. No one has questioned his commitment or competitveness. It's not the point. The point is we need him and plenty of others to be eventually squeezed out of the starting 22 because it's his limitations that add to the problem that I'm speaking of.
