Brendan McCartney Leaving at Seasons End
I donāt think itās as cut and dried as him getting the sack. In fact, I know it isnāt the case: It is about philosophical differences. Goodwin knows what he wants from McCartney; McCartney thinks thereās a difference between what he wants and what he needs. They donāt agree and it means everyone would be better off not losing friendships over something like this. I have plenty of mates Iād never want to work with, and I have worked with people where itās been better to make the change before we inevitably end up hating each other.

Brendan McCartney Leaving at Seasons End
Yeah, nah.

Paddy Ryder
Ryder looking to leave Port because he wants to be the number 1 ruckman, so he goes to... MFC?
-
Jack Martin
Iād offer a mid-1st round pick for him & about $500k per year. Do it.

The Future of Jordan Lewis
Heāll be in the media.

Are we scarcely relevant?
Caroline Wilson had a crack at us? So? Honestly, weāre sitting 17th. Until 2020 we only have relevance in respect to our ability to upset the apple cart for other teams, and for our draft position.

Richmond VFL v Casey Demons - Round 18
Maybe because he is slow and Richmondās small forwards are anything but? Horeās intercept marking and accumulation are great, but too many choose to ignore his obvious shortcomings. Uhhh... it was a rolled ankle, not a soft tissue injury.

Brad Hill
I think if it was anyone other than the Suns, theyād be picking Anderson at 1. But GC need more solid canāt-miss players like Rowell. Anderson is more like a Bennell.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
And if it does, I care not. We took the consensus 1 & 2 in 2009, missing out on Martin at 3, then Cunnington at 4. Weāve all heard it before but Fyfe went at 20 and Cripps at 13, even Oliver at 4. Our fate wonāt be determined by sliding back 1 place in the draft; itāll be determined by the culture we foster, the bahviours we instill and the standard we set.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I firmly believe this will be the case. With the consensus top 2 being best mates, and player retention an issue, it makes sense to gift the top 2 to GC. It has worked well at Brisbane. They desperately need it, and then some more off-field support to boot.

2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
I can tell you that a current assistant compared Goodwin to a premiership coach heād worked under, and said heād never experienced an environment as good as the dees, and would not want to work anywhere else. The premiership coach heād worked with would often not even acknowledge him when passing in a tight corridor and no one else around. Iād say thereās more good than bad (regarding Goodwin & the club) in those comments. I donāt see where treating people like [censored] leads to success.

2020 Assistant Coach Prospects: The Next Batch
Blake would be another 5-10 years away from seriously considering going after a head coaching role. Maybe never.

Ranked 16th for Best U23 Talent
My point is that at the time, what we paid is what he was worth in my opinion. Rule changes have sadly lessened his effectiveness, much like what happened to Jeff White.

Ranked 16th for Best U23 Talent
I donāt think we could have foreseen the idiocy of Hocking coming in and making excessive rule changes, reducing the loose intercept defender from being one of the key components of any competitive side, to largely ineffective. And even then, once Lever gets some continuity, he will be a solid contributor.

Sam Frost - Contract status
Canāt move him on quick enough, as far as Iām concerned.

Brandon Ellis (now a Sun)
God no, please.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
What a terrible trade suggestion for us...

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Surely we have learned from years gone by the folly of expecting an early pick to contribute meaningfully in their first season? I have no issue picking Kemp or anyone else with an LTI if they are the best available.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
The facility at Jolimont was practically approved, the only issue was opposition to an MCG-sized ground to play on. Movement of trees not a real issue as it is a common occurrence; the public just doesnāt notice. The opposition is more related to the idea of it not being palatable to influential types. The newly-mooted location is close, but not quite what Iāve been led to believe. Iāll leave it there for now, but I think itāll happen. Weāre basically out of alternative options, but the right parties are working with us to solve it.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Not entirely correct, but close enough.

Dermie: Melbourne are downhill skiers
Without having listened to it, this was my first thought upon reading the excerpt - Clarry & Gus are world in progress. Theyāll get there, but only an idiot would expect them to be the finished article at this stage.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Does it matter? Havenāt we learned from years of past experience that the ātop-X-then-daylightā is a fallacy? That draft picks arenāt a panacea? Iām just thankful that we have a decent club structure, development setup and culture, so that no kids are expected to come in and carry the club straight away, and they can develop properly at a reasonable rate. No more burning kids through the weight of expectation.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Yes, the intercept marks are impressive, but I think a lot of casual watchers overlook a fair few flaws in his game. I think in time heāll be able to work on them and get better, but heās far from the finished article.

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Serong, Kemp or Stephens for mine, leaning towards the 3rd.

The Incremental Bang Theory...
What was a clear sign for me, and something Iāve been looking for for some time, was the aggression he showed. Petracca seems like heās finally got to the point where heās going to grab hold of the opportunity and make something happen. Iām waiting for the breakout. He has been building, but thereāll be a game where the competition sits up and takes notice.
