Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin
dazzledavey36 replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well said. I have been banging on about this for a while now. The whole narrative that Paul Roos played a significant part in this premiership is becoming a joke now. Not only has their been a lot of personal and staff change over since Roos era, but Simon Goodwin has brought in his own philosophy on coaching and recruiting. Not discounting Roos for what he done for this club, but its been 5 years since he last set foot in this door. I would say 2019 was the ideal wack we needed before we had a full club review and changed the culture complete upside down even from the Roos era. -
Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin

His highlight package is seriously very impressive. His left foot kicking and poise is what stood out for me. I'm hoping his career pans out the same way as James Harmes. Came through the rookie draft, both Melbourne supporters and every year he's just gotten better to play a big part in our premiership campaign. No reason why little Woey can't nut out 100 games for us and become a great role player in our best 22. All reports suggest he has a high character, and unbelievable work rate for someone his age. Welcome Taj. -

Haven't been up to scratch with the whole WA border situation. But is it true that both Woewodin and JVR wont actually be able to enter Victoria until next year? -
Welcome to Demonland: Blake Howes
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Its so interesting reading some of the news out of the draft that Melbourne have pretty much had the steal of the draft with Howes. I must admit, and i hope this doesn't come across the wrong way. But when i watch his highlights i get Jayden Laverde pre draft feels about him. Similar athletic players who are both tall and have great speed. Laverde really struggled at AFL level for a few years there and was close to being delisted. His found his niche now as a handy 3rd tall defender. I think that's why a part of me was stoked we picked JVR as our first pick instead of Howes because he was true Jason Taylor type pick, and also he filled an important need for us. I probably didn't warm to Howes instantly? I do know Howe was extremely highly rated in his under 16's year and made the All Australian team when playing for Vic Metro. Of every Phantom Draft i read, majority had him easily a pick inside the top 20. I think Cal Twomey mentioned that GWS had serious considerations to select him at pick 13. Huge endorsement for Howes. Had there been a full season of the NAB there is every chance he could have snuck in around the top 12 pick due to his form playing as a winger. The fact that Jason Taylor who is imo the best recruiter by far in the land has picked him Howes is enough for me! I'm stoked to have him on board now and hopefully this is a pick where clubs will look back and ponder why the hell he lasted to pick 39. Welcome to the premiers Blake! -
I see Zac Foote has left Casey for QLD?

Great get for this club. Big physical 195cm 88kg key forward who has also played down back. Had some insane numbers in the back end of the year in the colts level as a noted goal kicker. Welcome Jacob.- 777 replies

Well done Tommy Brown. -
In fact I'll quote this myself. Congratulations to Mac Andrew in getting drafted. Obviously clubs saw fit to rate him in the top 10 draft. Who would have thought huh.. All the best to his career and will watch with interest.

As a footballer he's a beautifully balanced player who reads the game really well and uses speed off half back to really provide that dash and carry. He's also a great link up player who'll give off a hand ball and then spread hard to the next contest to provide as an extra option. Bit like what Ed Langdon does. Not only is his able to provide dash off half back, but is also able to lock down when needed, so already has good defensive mindset in his game For someone of his height and weight 186cm 71kg I don't think i have seen a more impressive player of his size that is able to take intercept contested marks down back. Has amazing reading of the game and just times himself in going for those intercept marks. It really does remind me of Jake Lever with this part of his game. The way I'm looking at this pick is its pretty much an apprentice role to Michael Hibberd or to release River/Bowey to a future midfield role. Off field he's a really driven kid who comes from a ripper family. Mooroopna boy who i can't speak highly enough.

Melbourne and the 2021 National Draft
dazzledavey36 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pretty sure we are trying to get West Coast pick 12 as they are happy to move back a few spots if it means they get Chesser. -
The club have ramped up several meetings with Murray Bushranger prospect Tom Brown in the past fortnight. This has also included his family being part of the process as welll. In the past week our senior Bushies coach and footy manager have been asked once again for a reference background check on his character and off field behavior's. The feeling we have is that Tom is under serious consideration for our pick now, as they have pretty big wraps on him. My personal opinion is that we have Darcy Wilmot as our number 1 target, followed by Brown if Wilmot does not last to our pick.

Hes contracted and I hope GWS ask for two 1st rounders. Give Dodoro a dose of his own medicine.

Off to the bummers.

Just read the draft is spread out over 2 nights. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure last year it took nearly 2 hours to get to our 1st pick? I think it's written somewhere that Jason Taylor and the recruiting team did not expect Petty to last to that pick as they rated him extremely highly. So when he was still on the board they quickly had no hesitations drafting him. Petty selection is really an underrated pick considering what he was able to achieve this year. Remember watching some Casey games in 2018 and was just clunking every ball that was coming his way down in defence. Came away from each time thinking we had an absolute better of a player.

Smalls forwards aren't big possession winners.. you do realise that right? I mean sure If you're going off low possession count then how do you judge the likes of Spargo and Pickett who at times have had low possession games this year? And just FYI I'm not saying we should chase him as we're pretty well stocked and have limited space on our list. Just think we're quick to write off young players so quickly. Spargo and Nibbler are perfect examples of this.

I find this comment strange. Hes 21 years old who was from the same draft as Tom Sparrow and James Jordon. He's played 30 games which is more then Jordon and Sparrow as well. He was also a pick 24, so wasn't like he was a top 10 pick who some expect to come in and make an immediate impact. This year alone he played 17 games and kicked 15 goals. That's just under a goal a game. For a young small forward that's not too bad, especially playing one of the hardest positions on the ground. Amazing how quickly some are to write young players off immediately. Has ample amount of development left in his game.

Hard to believe he spent 8 years at Gold Coast. Honestly feel like he's been a demon for life.

Stop talking sense. I'd rather listen to the recruiters on here.

One of my good friends is a Cats supporter and he cannot stand Scott. He's wanted him sacked since the 2019 preliminary final. Really surprised they re-signed him.
