  1. After watching Garry Lyon last night, I'm prepared to take him at face value. If he steps into the Football Director role, I hope he has the nads to start kicking a few heads. It has to be obvious now that there are a few ego driven individuals within the club who have their eye off the ball. I keep thinking that if this was Collingwood, Eddie would be smacking heads. Now I don't expect Jim to be doing this, it just isn't his style. This is why we must recruit a former player to the board as Football Director. Someone who is capable of keeping people focused on their roles without fear or favour. But who? Garry Lyon? David Neitz? Greg Healy? Don't know, but someone must take this burden from Jim. And I thought we had got beyond all this crap!

Just trotted out the same old rumour...that GWS had submitted 4 contracts to the AFL earlier in the year. Then along the lines of ...one was thought at the time to be Scully's. Then contradicted himself with something like...they had been reported to have submitted 3 or 4 contracts. Reading between the lines.. he doesn't know anything. Usual load of speculation based guesswork.

I think you will find that Scully had the same option put to him & refused it. I think you will also find that Trengove etc did not request the contract extension. It was initiated (and very wisely) by the club. I think you will also see Trengove etc. get another extension offer before the end of 2012.

Thomas has the whip hand. If he wants to go but wants Collingwood to be compensated, he can tell GWS he'll will only go if they agree to a trade. He tells Collingwood if they don't agree, he will go anyway. Remember that GCS got two uncontracted players from Brisbane. Only one was as the uncontracted player. The other was a trade or in the draft (can't remember which). The interesting part is, if they trade for Thomas now, they still have access to Pendlebury (out of contract again next year).

"There's no doubt it has been tough for the club but it is so important we protect the integrity of the competition and the salary cap and the draft....." Integrity? Should have done a retrospective on the Ju$$ deal then, because that blew the integrity right out of the water.

And after 40 odd pages....... a common sense summary. I'm also in the third category......(I think Tom Scully is too.)
  7. I think the classic example happened Carlton V Geelong. Laidler slung young Christensen exactly as Trengove did the week before. His head hit the ground hard. Result Christenson out with concussion the following week. MRP review - did not rate a mention. It's all very well having a consistent penalty system, but if the review system is fatally flawed then then the whole system is a failure.
  8. According to Max he did it before the op.

  11. No impropriety here. This is common practice in numerous businesses. It just doesn't get reported in the press because it is not a big deal in the overall scheme of things.. So why does this warrant an article now? I wonder if she's been through all the clubs financials. Just another muck raking effort from a football journalist columnist.

  14. Back: Bartram, Garland, Rivers, Grimes, MacDonald, Warnock Mid: Jamar, Trengove, Jetta, Davey, Moloney, Scully Fwd: Jurrah, Petterd, Sylvia, Green, Martin, Maric Int:Jones, Dunn, Bennell Sub: Watts Warnock - we could get into match up trouble if White Goodes Pyke/Mumford all go forward at once. Jetta - in form & deserves a spot. Maric - see Jetta. Interchange probably need at least two capable of going into the midfield. Dunn probably deserves to start on the ground too. Watts - form not great but he will probably play. Could make a good sub at this stage. Next in line: Bail, Wona, Tapscott, Gysberts.
  15. Thanks for picking that up High Tower. Sorry everyone, I missed that bit. Added it to my post so it's all together.

  17. Even if Cloke goes to the draft, GC17 still have more picks than the Seven Dwarves. They would certainly take him before pick 12.
  18. Went with the Cox deal in the end. Would prefer Clark but not at the price. Can't undestand the love for Hale though. I seem to remember he was on his way to the bush a few years ago. Then he (along with a few other forgotten statues) was saved by the second centre circle. Now he is 4th string at North behind a relative newby in Goldstein. He can't get a game forward ahead of Aaron Edwards. He rarely rucks in the VFL. Then again I suppose Casey might need another tall option if Millsey is going. For what its worth I expect the acid to go on Martin for the back up ruck role next year.

  20. What about this - 18 teams play each other once = 17 games then split the ladder into top 9 and bottom 9 top 9 play each other once & bottom 9 play each other once = 8 games (for a total season of 25 games) incentive for the top 9 is finals order as it is now incentive for bottom 9 is draft order i.e. 10th = pick 1, 11th = pick2 etc then for the top 9 9th = pick 10, 8th = pick 11, etc Benefits - similar season length - last 9 rounds would feature more even games - no more incentive to tank
  21. Good stuff. Can I add - It takes courage to dump a recently appointed CEO (a sporting icon who arrived with great publicity & expectation) and then chase down the man we really needed.
  22. I can tell you how it started. Down on the members wing the radio station boundary riders sit in the first row. At half time two older 'gentlemen' came down to the fence & were chatting to one of the SEN guys. One of these gentlemen had members scarf on, so I assume they where members. Anyway these two guys were big noting themselves a bit & I heard one say something like 'members are probably throwing their scarves in the bin by now'. Next time the SEN guy went on air I heard him say something about scarves in the bins. So 'bollocks' sounds like a pretty apt description to me.
  23. So ... a young man in the prime of his life ... physically fit...sportsman ... back & hammies tighten up after a one hour drive. Traded him none too soon if that's the case.
