I What the hell is wrong? The last phase was typical. We scored despite our best attempts not to! Why are we fumbling this year and not last year? Is everyone so down in confidence? Lack of fitness probably explained it originally but that should not be the case now
-
Isn't Kielty normally a defender? Hard on him to play him CH forward. I would play Oscar, Kielty and Sparrow. Viney out. Play Tom forward. Drop Weideman, Smith at FF, have to drop someone else, perhaps Lewis.
-
You guys are pathetic. Viney no great loss? You have to be kidding. And Jones was B o G three weeks ago
-
Well I think it was poor management! Could not believe we allowed Hogan to go in exchange for a very ordinary, thuggish defender. Bloody hell! Hogan had survived a serious back injury, testicular cancer and the death of his dad, and we simply waved him goodby .i calculated last year that his goals per match ratio was higher than that of Josh Kennedy after the same number of games. sure, he had some problems. What sort of character was Jack Riewoldt three or more years ago? To those who were happy to rely on Weideman instead of Hogan, I hope you are enjoying the Weid's sparkling start to the season!

So scared that the commentators picked him as Best for the Hawks!

I agree. I wouldn't plat Frost in ruck. But the two are playing because they are decent players who played together in a number of our good wins last year
-
Well there has been a match between Geelong and Melbourne, since our loss down there last year. For those with no memory it was a Final at the MCG , we played both Frost and Omac and we beat them very well. Don't make such disparaging comments after one match ( this is not directed just to you Rusty but to all the other morons with no memory!

Max will struggle to get a game

Looked anything but slow! And up against class opposition he did v well

Before the first final Fritsch and Harmes entertained themselves, from out near the previous practice wicket area, where they had shots for goals from a huge distance out. Whilst Harmes landed a couple from more than 50m, Fritsch was a revelation. He kicked several torps from close to 70m! And none of his torps misfired as they commonly do. Contrary to some expectations I envisage us playing 2 ruckmen next year with Fritsch at FF; I think he could be a sensation.

Recruiting a 3rd tall forward to find another 50 goals?
Farmer replied to John Demonic's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree with you, but the early hints are that they won't play two ruckmen. i think Fritsch will play forward. I rate him highly but overall I regret the loss of Hogan -
I'm not certain he actually requested a trade. His management said that he was happy with either outcome

He is not "still quite a player" he is a hell of a lot better than that! And May is no worlbeater. His game against Dees recently was awful and he is a hothead club should leap in and offer Jesse a new minimum three year contract. I am delighted by this development
-
His problem is that he is an inside midfielder, pure and simple. He's not a wingman. with Clarry, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes, Jones in the team, Tyson hardly got into the middle. I like him a lot but can understand that he might want a move to a team who need a mid.

Well , as you were at the game you may be able to explain something. Why did our blokes repeatedly fall over especially early in the game. The falls at critical times cost us several goals. Yet the WC guys barely fell at all. We must have had the wrong stops or whatever they use. It looked as though the ground had been sprinkled an hour before the match, but I doubt this! Is it just a layer of new grass?. A hard 15 minutes workout on the surface a couple of hours prematch surely would have alerted everyone to the problem.

I guess Richmond supporters will reach a similar conclusion? Miles behind at half time, lose by more than 6 goals. Team must be rubbish, time to rebuild!!! What BS!!! we made a series of errors in the first ten minutes , gave them an opportunity and they grabbed it with a huge supportive crowd behind them. If we played WC next week at the G I would back us.. Add Hogan Lever ( and Fritsch) , there is not much wrong with our team.

Casey Demons v Geelong VFL Qualifying Final
Farmer replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
At present I would give him a contract for next year . Fills so many gaps -
6 Harmes 5 Gawn 4 Brayshaw 3 Frost 2 Tom MCD 1 Oliver
-
Only one problem with this! LeCras was on Fricht, not Jetta
-
Didn't he kick 3?
-
Don't know about that, but in a practice match at the G in the early 1980s he punched Laurie Fowler in the head when the ball was at the other end of the ground. Fowler concussed, carried off, Matthews jogged away and joined in play . Melbourne supporters who saw it were screaming but no cameras , no action taken. Fowler was no angel but his aggression usually was in the heat of the play. This was unprovoked, as far from the play as it's possible to be well done Ross McMullin

We definitely need someone! Can't believe the match Committee has left us so exposed this year.
-
Really? Almost all of our rivals have far worse injury lists

The fact is that every match in the last round with bearing on the finals should be played at the one time. This happens in The Premiership in UK soccer, even in the lower division , the Championship. It happened in the recent World Cup when the last matches in the Group stage were played at the one time. No one should have the advantage of playing later than its competitors . Last year, sure, we were responsible for the loss to Cwood, but even then we would have made the finals if results had gone as expected. Before the Cats v GWS match was played on the Saturday night ( remember, until then GWS could still have finished top of the ladder) WC were heavy odds against to beat Adelaide in the last match. But as it became plain the Cats would beat GWS, the odds on Adelaide blew out. By 11 pm WC had become favourites to beat Adelaide, who no longer could lose top spot. And so it transpired. Adelaide left a couple out, WC knew EXACTLY what it needed to do. And we missed out effectively by a couple of goals. Situations such as these actually lead to corruption , and I'm not talking of betting. The top side may rest half its best players. Sure, if by the last round they must finish top, nothing can be done to prevent them from treating the last match with little interest. But if it's only in that last round that final positions will be determined, then no-one should be given the very real advantage of playing last. One other matter. Many here will remember the last round of 1987. All those matches played at once produced the best season finale I can recall.

Dead right! Studies show that domestic violence is worse after football ( of all description) games are completed . This validates the studies
