  1. Yep, Petterd/Bate/Evans emergencies for mine. Jetta will surely play. Usually he's on the fringe but last week was close to his best game for the club. He was terrific.
  2. Those who are starting to have doubts about Tom Scully ditching us, let's revisit March 4 when Scully confronted the media. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/i-havent-spoken-to-gws-melbourne-star-tom-scully/story-e6frf9jf-1226015805893 Read the article and watch the feedback video featuring Mike Sheehan and Jon Anderson. Both were impressed by Scully and anticipated he would stay. At 2.54 JA says "I still think there will be speculation. As he is out of contract and is not going to sign his contract until the end of the year." Which is exactly what is happening. So what's changed? Scully said he hadn't been approached and anticipated he would spend his career at Melbourne. He seems like an honest kid and not some sort of shifty character, so I believed him then and I have no reason to believe anything has changed. His freakish performance last night just gives a few of the hack journos (yes I'm looking at you Jon Ralph) an excuse to rehash the rumours. I'm not 100% sure he'll stay, but I'm pretty confident. Colin Sylvia hasn't signed yet either. Is he off to GWS?
  3. I like this. Does anyone other than Bomber fans really want to see the pretty boy and mercenary succeed?
  4. Interestingly after 3-4 years of being a robot, tonight was the first time I saw Dean show a bit of emotion in the box (and on the bench). Clearly the win meant a lot to him - and kudos to him for getting the 4 points while playing a collection of untried kids. Takes guts. Is he the right man to lead the MFC to success? I don't know, probably not IMO. But if we show some form in the back end of the year he may just get another crack at it. Tonight was a good start.
  5. I don't disagree! I love Gysberts! Don't want to get too far ahead of myself - but they could be the next "Fab 4". Here's hoping.
  6. A fit McKenzie, Scully and Trengove make all the difference. Yes I'm deliberately including young Jordie in their bracket, because I think he is just as important going forward. Maybe not as talented, but by gee he makes up for it with intent.
  7. 6 - Rivers 5 - Gysberts 4 - McKenzie 3 - Trengove 2 - Scully 1 - Green Massive apologies to Watts, Joel Mac, Jetta, Strauss (WTF? this guy can play), Morton, Martin. [censored] me, every single player could have snuck in for a vote. I love footy again!
  8. Wow, does this guy have a bit of X-factor or what.
  9. Bailey has his downfalls but one thing I have really liked about him is the way he brings young players into the side. He does it infinitely better than Daniher did. Can't wait to see Big Max in action. Future cult figure for sure. Also Scully, Trengove, Howe, Strauss, Evans, Nichlson give us more reason to watch the game, flogging or no flogging.
  10. Obviously it wasn't the dream debut for young Dan... as he came on when the game was dead and buried. But I'd just like to point out that in just over a quarter, he had the fourth most tackles of any Demon with 4. Only McKenzie, Sylvia and Jetta had more. Yep, he tackled more in one quarter than 17 other teammates did in an entire game. Speaks volumes. *Edit, apologies to Green and Moloney. They had 7 each. Must get a guernsey next week.
  11. Dropping him would be ideal, but part of me thinks making him the sub could be even better. He gets embarrassed by appearing with the green vest in front of the massive Friday night audience, he realises that's it time to pull his finger out... and (most importantly) he could have a real impact with his leg-speed late in the piece against Carlton. It seemed to work with Watts. Having said all this, if he's listed as an "Out" Thursday night, I won't be unhappy.
  12. A couple of you have nailed it already but: 1. Boomer Harvey 2. Milne 3. Ballantyne/Robinson tie Harvey in particular irrates me.
  13. Thanks for the reports WJ and co... Can't wait to see Jordie back. He's criminally underrated in the footy world and will add a hell of a lot to our midfield when he gets back (although it could take a few weeks to reach peak form a la Frawley). Alright now I'm going to throw out what I came on here to ask... Should we bring in Gawn next week? Yes, he's not ready. Yes, he won't provide much around the ground. But it was cringe worthy watching Newton in the centre bounces yesterday, and I reckon a 208cm giant will win a number of taps against AFL standard ruckmen. Comfortably. Thoughts?
  14. Could have sworn Garland was on Edwards.
  15. 6 - Frawley: back to his best. 5 - Sylvia: would be close to AA if he had a bit more support. Playing really well IMO. 4 - Newton: Unbelievable first quarter. Average after that but tried hard. 3 - Martin: beaten, but couldn't have given much more than what he did. Encouraging. 2 - Watts: decision making is first class, what position will he end up though? 1 - Warnock: "Encouragement Award". i.e. not a convincing performance, but was solid enough.
  16. To quote a famous blue-collared Australian, where was THE LAW OF BLOODY COMMON SENSE in all this?!?!?
  17. What a joke. Can we appeal? Will we appeal? What are the ramifications of a failed appeal?
  18. He had 6 possessions after 7 minutes.
  19. 1. Green's goal and subsequent celebration. Not sure if anyone else saw this, but it made Big Jimmy get out of his seat for a prolonged period and give a passionate fist pump to those around him. 2. Jones' goal. 3. Tappy's goal. I'm in love with this guy. 4. Trengove's goal assist right at the end. Not many players capable of that. 5. Sylvia's 2 in 2 mins.
  20. 6 - Moloney: Simply amazing and would be (or at least should be) leading the Brownlow. 5 - Petterd: We just look... different... when he's in the side. Super competitor. 4 - Jones: continues to burn it up. Well done Jonesy. 3 - Trengove: Every time I watch Dustin Martin play I think we may have missed a trick. Then everytime I see this guy play, Irealise we didn't. :-) 2 - Sylvia: game-breaker. 1 - Frawley: back to 2010 form. Apologies to Jamar, Davey, Bail, Watts, Maric and a host of others. In fact all bar Bate and Warnock probably could have snuck in for a vote (and they weren't horrible).
  21. Can you have anything but love for these two South Australians?
  22. Watts was encouraging last night no doubt about it. Last night was the first time I've had a look at NikNat in a while, and frankly I just don't reckon he's that good. Sure, he's "exciting", but he can barely do the basics right. He's lucky he didn't go pick 1 or the blowtorch would be well and truly on him by now. No wonder the media has turned to "Watts vs Hurley".
  23. In. Maric, Petterd, Blease, MacDonald Out. Wonaeamirri, Bennell, Morton, Davey Reasoning: - Maric is no saviour, but he deserves his spot ahead of Wonaeamirri who, as already mentioned above, is yet to play a good game in 2011. - Petterd for Bennell is a no-brainer. Bennell is dangerous at times but doesn't do enough and his hardness is questionable. Petterd, again no saviour but can bring a certain X-factor and target into the forward line. - Blease for Morton. Not an entirely necessary change, but I'd really like to see someone like Blease come in. Someone who is not afraid to take the game on. I'm one of the few remaining Morton fans, but he needs a spell. And finally, the "controversial" move of the week. Davey dropped. Somebody needs to be made a scapegoat, a statement from Bailey that nobody is safe from Casey. Similar to Adelaide dropping Vince, St.Kilda Milne and DalSanto etc... Davey is in poor form, doesn't attack the footy and (most importantly) does not run hard enough. When was the last time he ran a player down? I'd replace him with Joel MacDonald, who despite lacking a touch of polish, will give 100% and actually knows how to lay a tackle. Someone who actually doesn't mind getting his hands dirty.
  24. I don't think we should be pulling the pin with this guy just yet. Woeful last night, and not having the best season, but he is coming off a largely interrupted backend of the pre season and was rushed back into the side with no match conditioning (not his fault). We've seen with Frawley that you can go from hero to zero pretty quickly with limited preperation, so how about we give Morton the same leeway. I'm not too worried about his lack of mongrel, as that's not his role. But his foot skills baffle me sometimes. For someone that was meant to be an awesome kick of the footy when he arrived at the club, he sure has his fair share of shanks. The one last night (3rd quarter?) was cringe worthy.
