Casey Scorpions v Collingwood and Debt Demolition Day
Bang Bang Bang replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just because it's unconventional doesn't mean it needs work. His stutter approach hasn't deterred him from nearly leading the VFL in goals kicked this year.. just like it hasn't stopped Josh Kennedy in the AFL. -
Some players that can hold their head high today: Frawley and Garland superb, Dawes a colossus at CHF and Nate Jones an inspiration in the midfield. Dean Kent is cheeky, quick and skilled. A few others were servicable, but the rest can go and GF. Bye bye Mark Neeld. Next year: Hogan FF, Dawes CHF, Watts floating, Clark as 1st ruck. Might see us more competitive.
-
One of many players out there today who are not up to AFL standard.
-
This is pretty bad. We have no money - but can Neeld survive this? He could go down as the worst coach of all time. I didn't watch some of our 2009 matches because I was torn between winning and draft picks - but otherwise I tune in and watch every week (I live overseas). After today I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.
-
Even though it's probably true I don't reckon the coach should be saying that. He can think it but to tell the whole world that a 5-goal loss is a positive, he's taking the mickey isn't he. Disappointing. Should have at least worded it better (assuming the MFC twitter feed is accurate)...

They are absolutely killing us out of the centre. Fix that and we might be a chance here. We look OK going forward. Howe's a beauty. Tom McDonald is easily the most overrated player on this site.

He is a kamikaze player - and even though he gets caught from time to time, he stays strong and can get a disposal away. Not overly skilled but I like what he brings to the table. If we were to play in a final tomorrow (LOL) I'd be picking him ahead of much more skilled teammates who perhaps don't possess his kamikaze approach (you know who I'm referring to). Does Neeld get credit for bringing him to the club or does Todd Viney as the head recruiter at the time?
-
Actually today he had 22 touches - in 2012 his season high was 21. Encouraging signs - although I'd like to see him push the late 20s, early 30s once he's back to peak fitness.
-
He is the heart and soul of this footy club. And IMO, damned close to elite. How is he not on the Demonland banner? Get Garry "I'm too busy" Lyon off there and put the bald nugget in the centre!!

I thought Jack Trengove had a horrible 2012 and the pessimist in me thought we may have fluffed another high draft selection. But he is starting to work himself into some nice form after a long layoff. A superb captain's goal in the last quarter. Doesn't look that important with hindsight but he had to kick that goal and it went gun-barrell straight. Well done Jack.

I agree that Watts is a much better kick. But both are soft and living off their high draft number, not their form. You can't teach what Watts is lacking. Remember what M. Neeld said not long ago - draft position is irrelevant when considering list management. If Neeld is still there at the end of the year I reckon Watts might be in some trouble.
-
Watts = Cale Morton The similarities are definitely there.
-
I know Barry Prendergast for the most part was a horrible recruiter who fluffed most of our prized early selections. But he found an absolute gem in Jeremy Howe. Let's hope we get to see the kid in September one day because he's a marvel to watch and (I predict) would be a big game player. That running mark and goal from 50 on the boundary when the game was still in the balance. Superb!!

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Nathan Jones: Heart and soul of this footy club. Will go down as an MFC great by the time he's done. 5 - Michael Evans 4 - Shannon Byrnes 3 - Jack Grimes 2 - Max Gawn 1 - Jack Trengove Howe, Sylvia, M. Jones, Terlich good too. You can see why Matt Jones won Box Hill's most consistent player award last year. Watts still plays like a lazy teenage girl. -
Say what you want about the first 3 quarters and the opposition, but given where we are coming from and everything thats surrounding the club, that 12-goal last quarter and win MUST be HUGE for team morale. Nathan Jones is an absolute friggin superstar and I am proud he wears the red and blue! Obv he had a few friends in that last quarter too!!

Too early to say we stuffed up (again) in not picking Wines?

Instead of Hogan you mean? -

I think we all need to relax a bit with Toumpas. YES, his first 3 games have been less than remarkable.. but NO, this guy is not a hack. Look at some of the stuff he was doing against men in 2011 and 2012. We have not seen it at AFL level yet, but it WILL come. Look at his disposal by foot, sublime. Wines is a beauty but we all knew that all along. -
Was going to start a new thread but may as well post it here. A couple of posters on BigFooty reckon there might have been some argy bargy between Frawley and Sylvia at some poncy Melbourne nightclub in the early hours of this morning? Now, BigFooty is hardly gospel, and it's in the "Scandals and Rumours" section of the website to boot, but why can't I help but believe this one.
-
The guy was SA-captain, tore up the Championships and performed admirably at SANFL level. I think he'll be OK in the long run, writing him off now is ludicrous but atm he's a long way off. Wines was always going to be better early.
-
Yep. I'm starting to think that Garland just isn't AFL-standard. I'm sure he cares out there and tries his best, but quality wise, I just think he's lacking. Have thought this for a while. Throw in Frawley who is still living off his AA-season from 3 years ago, McDonald who competes well but gives away multiple goals through his own doing and I think we have a problem. Bring back Gillies! (Just joking)
-
Biggest plus for me was Tapscott. Quiet start but had a nice purple patch in the second quarter and just looked AFL-quality. Had him written off after Round 1, maybe too soon. Also Neeld has brought in some rubbish recruits but Matt Jones has been one of his good ones. Can win the footy and use it well.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 3
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - N. Jones 5 - M. Jones 4 - Tapscott 3 - Sylvia 2 - Clark 1 - Terlich -
Very worrying second half. The bottom line is that we have at least 5 (probably more) players running around that are just not up to AFL-standard. Mark Jamar should have his contract torn up and be shown the door. Fed up with him. Cox is a superstar but the amount of times he was in a paddock forward of the centre was ludicrous. Players today who earnt their stripes, or went up in my estimations as AFL players were Tapscott, M. Jones, Terlich. Players who I think we need to stop kidding ourselves over, and realise are probably not AFL-standard anymore (or perhaps never were): Byrnes, Garland, Sellar
-
I actually don't mind the "Ins". At the moment we have no run - Bail, Evans and Jetta can help there (ever so slightly). Tapscott was a monty after 6 goals in VFL, and Pederson is miles better than Gillies (then again that's not saying much). Watts is a pea heart and career officially at the crossroads. Disappointed Jamar stays. Blease very stiff.
