First time we've ever beaten Ross Lyon. Wasn't pretty but we'll take it.

Mitchell White is an AFL player. Give him a low number and a permanent spot in the side.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

He's on track to kick the most goals in a season since Neitz retired. -
I don't mind losing games like today as the effort was clearly there. Adelaide are a chance for the flag and we matched them for 75% of the game, so we're not that far off. Jayden Hunt is the find of the year, certainly for this club and maybe even league wide (in the mix at least). Is there any use for an ageing Lumumba past this season? Hunt plays like Harry did when he was All Australian. I like the new Jack Watts. I like him a lot. He'll never justify the #1 pick but he's now a certainty to at least finish in the 'reasonable' category like Fraser and Johnstone. He might even end up better at this rate. I like to think that the coaches know better than us, but at the same time I think the fans get it right most of the time. For that reason, I'll be absolutely [censored] off if Dawes is retained next week. I have this sneaky suspicion he will be though. He has never been dropped at Melbourne. TMac can defend but how many goals does he cost us offensively with his horrid disposal? I want him to stay but lets not pay him the world. He's B-grade at best, they're easy enough to find. Freo in Darwin is a nightmare proposition. We'd annihilate them at the G but in the Northern Territory it's a flip of the coin. We've never beaten Ross Lyon. Unlike today I'll be seriously [censored] off if we lose and get carved up by Riewoldt the following week. Must win at least 1 of the next 2.

I reckon Hogan's approach for his third goal was the straightest and most fluent it has ever been. Normally I need to close my eyes when he starts to run in but for this shot I had 100% confidence it was going through.

Huge effort by Bugg on Sidebottom after quarter time. Expect him to feature in the coaches votes.

Viney had 30 touches with a dodgy hand. That guy is not human.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 11
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I missed the Port debacle (have seen the stats), surely Kennedy is stiff to be omitted? Had a very solid year and should be allowed a quiet game. -
I distinctly remember a couple of Toumpas references in the Gameday thread. There might have been more in others. http://demonland.com/forums/topic/40187-gameday-round-6/?page=18

Who were the Demonland posters calling him the new Toumpas after one game? From memory there were a few. Time for them to give up on footy.

Just finished watching the replay. I don't get why people think Jason Dunstall is a good commentator. Time and time again, he comes into a game wanting the underdog to win. He spends the entire game calling the play from that team's perspective and bemoans all the skill errors and mistakes they make (hence why they're the underdogs!!). I can understand commentators wanting a close contest but does he have to be so blatant and negative about it? Jonathan Brown would have called it better. I know everyone hates Dwayne but I'm starting to get around him. He has a clear hard on for Petracca. I thought OMac wasn't too bad live and the replay confirmed that. Yeah he was a bit fumbly and made some mistakes but he did some nice things too. He's probably suffering from 'Jack Watts 2009 syndrome' whereby he looks like a scrawny schoolboy and thus deceives fans into thinking he's not ready. I'd play him next week. Hogan clearly BOG.

11 goals this season already. Nathan Jones came third in our goal kicking tally last year with 12. Very handy little player.

I feel like Oliver continues to be underrated by all and sundry (bar Jay Clark) in the footy world. He is the stoppage king. The amount of times he set up attacking forward thrusts with his hands or kicks in general play continue to amaze me. He missed two easy shots but has forward presence. He's a clear rung above Petracca and that's no mean feat. However long we signed him up for during the week, double it now! I feel like we didn't play that well yet came away with a 10 goal win and 130+ score. That's light years ahead on what we were seeing in the 2013-2015 era. Rhys Mathison is a [censored] loser. So glad we didn't draft him.
-
To be fair I watched the game yesterday and Howe was outstanding. Given we secured Kennedy in that trade and a pick which helped us move up the draft to get Oliver, I have no complaints about Jeremy's infatuation with the Pies. If he genuinely went there so he could play in the forward line, then LOL.

Good news, although I don't think it was ever really in doubt. Harmes is a lifelong Melbourne fan living the dream.

Clayton Oliver signs new 2 year deal.

Can't be too careful these days. Players are brazen enough to walk after their first contract is up. Scully left in a flash. Aish requested a trade after 2 years, Boyd after 1. It's good to lock them away early. -

Terrific news. Early days but of our young talent, I'd only have Hogan ahead of him. He has been more impressive than Petracca and Brayshaw to date. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Roos has been quoted as saying ANB, OMac and Kent will all play. That might mean Harmes or Hunt slide out of the squad. I echo the above sentiment re. Garland. Lynden Dunn must be getting pretty frustrated. -
I know the coaches won't factor this in, but given it's our last home game at the MCG until Queens Birthday, I hope it's this weekend. The ovation he gets when he runs off the bench will be spine tingling.

Short memory. Our very own Neville Jetta missed 4 weeks last season with a similar issue to Brayshaw.
-
We've had Dunn, McDonald and Garland on the list for all of those five years, all of whom were mainstays in the 22 up until this season. We also had Frawley until the end of 2014, and when he left we immediately signed Frost as his replacement. On top of that we drafted OMac as you mentioned. There was no need to go overboard with key defenders, but we'll surely make it a priority at the end of the year. The severe regression of Garland and Dunn being out of form/favour has left us no choice. They need to start playing Frost in his right position too. He's big, competitive and athletic. I can't see him being any worse than Garland.
-
You say this every week. Why? His kicking was sharp yesterday, one of our goals was directly caused by Tyson successfully executing a risky but perfect 50m kick into the corridor to Jones who was surrounded by Bulldogs. I don't recall any of his other kicks missing the mark either.
-
Compare his horrid run up today to his debut against Gold Coast last year.
-
I think it's just about time to put a line through Garland. Perhaps it's partly the coaches fault for assigning him to guys that are 10cm+ taller than him but at the moment he is uncompetitive defensively and offers nothing offensively either (9 possessions). At least TMac wins the footy. Dunn can come back, or they can try Frost in the position he was recruited for, or blood Omac. But Garland's gotta go.

I'm at the game, what was the 50 to Redpath for? Jetta has been crazy good. Watts back to old Watts recently.
