Weideman is looking more and more like a spud who should go to Collingwood. -

Get some committed players and a proper coach. Otherwise get stuffed. -

The MFC and the reserves team are absolutely stuffed and pathetic. We haven't won a premiership in the seniors since 1964. Joke team. -

Another dog vomit result for the demons. Great effort guys! -
Did anyone else notice in the past few weeks the players would often hand ball back to a player who had just handballed it to them when they were in a poor position, as if to say "here it is back to you- it's a hot potato and you can get tackled with it rather than me even though you're in a worse position"? Almost like revenge for putting them under pressure rather than looking for a better option for the team and the game.

I'd want to see what happens with Vandenberg's foot before committing to a contract with him and I'm sure other clubs would too.

Excellent summary!

Harsh.

I wonder if the players realized that their form in the past 6-8 weeks has been a pale shadow of earlier in the season, partly related to injuries, probably only partially recovered, and furthermore that if they scraped into the finals it would be a debacle. Subconsciously this may have weighed heavily on them as they ran out to play Collingwood. Losing may have seemed a better option, perhaps not a deliberate act, but an almost unconscious result of the situation in which they found themselves. Watts' hamstring was probably not fully healed, Hogan has a partially united clavicular fracture (normally this would be a longer time off type of injury) and a probable hamstring tear, on top of all his other troubles this year, Gawn has not been right since he ripped his hamstring, requiring major surgery, Garlett has had some hamstring issues, and there are most likely some players with injuries we don't even know about as well as several players down on form for unknown reasons. Looking forward they were aware that Viney's foot was probably not going to be right for some weeks.

What was different about the player group then that allowed them to play with such a sense of excitement and win all those games late in the season and so unexpectedly advance deep into September?
-
Does anyone remember the excitement of the 1987 and 1988 seasons where the players performed above themselves in the final few rounds and unexpectedly got deep into the finals?
-
Maybe not, but I bet some can spell "heaps"!!! LOL!!?
-
Nonsense. Sylvia couldn't even lick his boots.

I don't think that's true. Most players only play for a few years and then go back to low paying jobs. Most players do not earn the big bucks. It's only a few top players and then for a limited time. Compare soccer players in Europe, football players in the US. They earn astronomical figures. Our players wear no protection, and often deal with long term arthritis, brain injuries, etc in later life. Also there are many Melbourne supporters who are doctors, lawyers, CEOs who earn big salaries for 30-40 years.

No, something has gone very wrong in the last third of the season. We've lost games we shouldn't have lost and just scraped through in some others. Injuries, fitness, skills and attitude have been the problems.
-
And then lose a GF the next year by 96 points? That's what happened in 1988.
-
Like when Bugg king hit a player? Or Lewis or Hogan or Vince's cheap shots? They were a great help to us getting suspended. Try some footy skills and nouse.

I'd like a punch several of the players in the face after the first quarter "effort" yesterday. Cancel their off season trip and any leave. Sack several who don't care:
-
The year in review: The Melbourne Football Club had a good start to the year. Unfortunately the players don't really care that much as long as they collect their pay cheques. So they lost to Fremantle, Richmond and North Melbourne. Then they got worse in the last few weeks, losing to North again and putting in poor performances against other teams. The culture at MFC is a loser culture and has been for 53 years. All players at MFC have been judged by the public and the media to be younger than all other players and inexperienced for 50 years even though that was the composition of all MFC premiership teams in the 1950s-60s. The usual excuses about youth, injuries, inexperience will now now reemerge. The here is no excuse now. The MFC blew it. Blow this.

Gawn needs a long rest to get over his injuries
-
You are so right. But loose refers to a woman you might like. Lose is what you mean.
-
Fumbling skill is perfecto! Inability to take contested marks is top level!
-
And Neale Balme was good too.
-
He didn't have a shot on goal when he should have. He bombed it in long without looking and thinking, as usual. He handpassed to his colleagues into trouble as usual.

Yep I'm a Demons supporter
