  1. Did they? I dont think so. But well done on the voice of reason. FWIW, I think most posters realised the win against Essendon came with qualifications to it.
  2. As a forward he should have got those goals. As a captain it was more so that he needed to get those goals. e failed on both fronts. Its times like these you need to stand up and make a statement. He was insipid and ineffectual today. He is not in a good space at the moment. I supported him for Captain at the start of the year. The Club needs to review the whole leadership group at year end. Green and a couple of others have been underwhleming to say the least.
  3. The Good Morton Sylvia Gawn - Still raw but promising Howe Watts in the 1st half Martin The Bad Rivers on Cloke - Has no 1 on 1 skill. Jones - Poor execution and no vision Trengove Moloney - four bounces and then a pathetic kick to boundary line. Making our tackles stick Two men up with no Pies player going up Consistent inability to make tackles stick. Jurrah not fit The Ugly Neon Leon carved us early Collingwood were clinical and professional in their dissection of MFC. Brad Green- There should be spill of leadership positions at year end and few if any incumbents should be considered for the leadership positions. Jamar is still out for 2 weeks. Kick Outs - Zts a positive if we get it to a throw in at centre wing. Tom Scully - Just went today when I thought the open nature of the MCG would have suited him perfectly - I wonder why?
  4. [ Its embarrassing when supporters try to nitpick the umpires when the real problems were starkly elsewhere.
  5. You are dreaming. For Collingwood add in Jolly (200+ games), Swan (150games) and Thomas (100 games) and drop Wood, Buckley and BLair and you might start to get the drift....
  6. I walked away from the game with only 2 players who I thought could claim they did their role. Sylvia and Morton The other four were honest. I thought Martin and Watts could be added to that list. However Watts faded as the game went on.
  7. They had about 1400 games more of experience and an average of 3.5 years older. I suggest you double your estimate.
  8. Thats the worst piece of revisionist history I have read for some time on here. Could not be more wrong. At the end of 2006, Thomas was finished ahd the wheels were off the Saints. FFS, Lyon went within a kick of a flag and he is the worst thing to happen to the Saints. At least Malcolm Blight and Tim Watson can breathe easy now.
  9. Frawley started on CLoke for the first 2 goals then the switch to Rivers who has proven yet again that he is poor man on man. We were forced to push Frawley back on Cloke after Rivers got truly toweled. I would have loved to have Garland back.
  10. Totally agree. Casey were all over the Pies and Blease was ordinary. I actually thought he was not good with the ball either. I know why he was drafted but he has not delivered. He has been serviceable in the later half of 2010 and has reverted back to career mean form in 2011. He is the ulitimate tweener. Looks a class above at VFL but a class below at AFL level. Been a real disappointment at MFC over the course of his career.
  11. Ahhh no. While he gets the best defender at this level he looks a sorry shadow of the player who was a match winner at AFL. Still cant run, looks slow at VFL level and has no 2nd/3rd effort. His 50 metres that he gave away at the kick was immature and just plain dumb. Toxic and good riddance to him at year end. Gotch just has him up forward as he has no fitness to run. As for Coleman medallist....phhftt...it is as embarrassing as watching Plugger make that ill fated comeback. Fev is a loooooonnnnnggg way off. In truth he should be destroying this competition....he aint. And unless Casey has a field day in the midfield, he is unlikely to either. More excited by Lucas Cook and hope the Casey players kick it to him until he gets a taste of AFL. Its definitely coming up.
  12. Exactly rpfc. They are still the benchmark with their best in. And their best is very good.
  13. You clearly have a problem there. The good news is that you dont need to advertise the problem to those that have the misfortune of sitting near you.
  14. Good to see Jetta give his all. But he will struggle with a fit list and when Grimes, Tapscott return from injury and Blease and Strauss start to mature. The rise of Evans will also be challening.
  15. Up until Jako arrived on the scene in a big way against the Swans in 1991 , Bennett had 45 goals from the previous 10 rounds (including a haul of 8 and 6). If Watts or Jurrah did that we would be claiming they have arrived as stars!!! Bennett was capable and aside from the game where Jako burst onto the scene, was choked out of the play as Jako was a one man forward. Fev is a bad example and is no benchmark of success. In comparison Jako was an angel. Both Lockett and Hall established themselves as top players and in Hall also as a good team player. But I note your qualification on Jako and they are considerable.
  16. I dont think what I have highlight is a debateable issue. I would rather have Jack Watts than not have him. However if you have not got a matchwinning midfield then have a great KPF is going to be of reduced importance when the pill spends so much time at the other end Neither Jarman or Ellen are KPFs. Both were tactical moves to cover short comings up forward. Both made their mark as midfield/ utilities. Jarman was a freak though. The issue is not that you dont need them but in current game they are not important as that crack midfielder. And its notable McLeod won the 97-98 NSM and Adelaide won both flags without their gun KPF...Modra... Hmmmm
  17. *Cough* Sylvia was injured. So thee is going to be one change......for changes sake.
  18. Good summary. Howe holds his spot. Only on Demonland. About as relevant as Newton took mark of the year in 2007.
  19. He'll get one to two weeks off the MRP. Some of the conspiracy theories on the AFL/MRP on this thread deserve a longer suspension.
  20. Fair enough and fair comment. There must have been another Jakovich at MFC. The No 13 with the mullet that I knew was a lone cowboy on the forward. Euphemesitically known as the Pope because he wouldnt pass the bill. When he was hot he was a world beater. When he was cold he was terrible. And there were frequently displays of both with Jako. Often the showman when doing well but sometimes a maverick donkey. When he arrive on the scene his previously suffocated an in form Darren Bennett. What a skill set but what a mixed bag of performances. The problem was week to week, quarter to quarter you never knew which Jako would appear...the match winner or the chump They had Dunstall and Brereton arguably amongst the greatest FF and CHFs ever. Its hardly a good test case. And the emphasis of the game has changed in the past 20 to 30 years. But I do believe Dunstall's style of playing would make him valuable in the modern game. Strong offensively and defensively. Having a capable fwd over not having one is a no brainer. But its not a critical in the modern game as having the premiership quality midfielder. Top teams get their goals from a spread of options reflecting their ability to find holes in the opposition defence to penetrate.
  21. In a nutshell. I never like it when posters say we should recruit X because he gives us depth. If he aint going to challenge for a top 22 spot then the Club should not sweat over getting him.
  22. Unless he can hurt teams regularly by winning the contested ball and using it well by hand or foot then he may as well run all night. And its that reason he not like a Judd or Watson. He currenltly seriving a purpose where so many young players are but he is not critical to those future plans when that talent blooms. I'd say that is a critical especially when he lacks pace over shorter distances.
  23. Completely agree with those assessments.
