  1. Is Grundy better than Darcy Cameron and Mason Cox? On paper the obvious answer is yes, but the reality is that the Pies are performing better without Grundy. Cameron and Cox are far better forwards than Grundy, which makes the tandem work.
  2. You don't know how Grundy is going to come up post injuries. It's a huge risk giving anyone at his age a 5 year deal, let alone a player coming off consecutive long term injuries. If either Grundy or Max were proven forwards, it maybe worth a punt, but they're not.
  3. We'd have Grundy for 5 years on good money. Why not get the Meek/Flynn now, plus drafting a rookie ruckman.
  4. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Here's a list of the current no.1 ruckman, who were acquired by their club either by trade or delisted free agency. And note that they weren't the no.1 ruckman at their previous club. It goes to show that there are lesser rucks at clubs who can become no.1 ruck at a new club. Ryder and McEvoy are the exception, as they were no.1 at their previously club. Collingwood: Cameron (since Grundy has been injured) Carlton: Pittonet Swans: Hickey Geelong: Stanley GWS: Preuss Richmond: Nankervis Port Ade: Lycett Gold Coast: Witts
  5. If loading is the issue, then we need to refer it to @binman. He'll be able to give us a diagnosis.
  6. Disagree. Grundy and Jackson are totally different. Jackson has the ability to get space and be an outlet at clearances, through his athleticism. He's also miles better at ground level. In ruck contests, Jackson relies on his leap, whereas Grundy relies on his strength and size. Neither have proven themselves to be great contested marks. Jackson still has time on his side to change that. Grundy was a high possession getter at Collingwood under Buckley, because of how indirect they played. He'd often be on the end of a sideways chip pass. Once Buckley was sacked, his stats dropped. The Pies would be rapt to get him off their books, even if they're paying part of his salary. I can't project how good Jackson will become, but it will be completely different type of player to AA Grundy.
  7. I'm questioning the notion of getting a player who's just suffered his second consecutive serious injury, and is on a guaranteed 5 year contract. Add to that, both Max and Grundy have been no.1 ruckman at their club, and neither are proven forwards. So yes, I am questioning the wisdom of our FD.
  8. No-one said he's injury prone, but having a PCL followed by stress fractures to the ankle isn't great for a big bloke.
  9. He hasn't been a premier ruckman for 2 years, and now has a series of injuries.
  10. I'm a bacon and eggs man. Does that tell you something?
  11. He's on massive coin, so regardless of the dump, we're still paying him at least $700k for 5 years.
  12. Good get @goodwindees Still staggered by this move, regardless of what draft pick we give up. Grundy has basically missed a whole season and is no spring chicken. Neither he or Gawn can play forward. We'll see how it pans out.
  13. The FBI have raided Trump. You could be next. PS: Are you related to George Dubya?
  14. Since you have all the Champion Data stats, can you tell me how many inside 50's Spargo averages since the bye? Just as a comparison, Spargo averages 11 possessions per game, whilst Viney averages 30. If Spargo is averaging 46% of 2, does that make him a lock in the team?
  15. Your source is different to mine. Since moving to a more affluent suburb, Mel was seen ordering bircher muesli and a soy latte at the local cafe. ET, maybe able to shed more light.
  16. Lol, ANB couldn't get a clean possession. We have other structural and game plan issues, but ANB is out of form, pure and simple.
  17. Can you explain why Spargo only had 59% game time last week, the lowest in the team? And as a comparison, since the bye, Spargo averages 65% game time compared to Kozzie's 85% game time. You'd think the more seasoned player would have more game time.
  18. That's fine if he didn't cough the ball up through fumbling or getting caught in possession, because he's been slow in mind and body. I didn't need stats to disprove what I'm seeing. I just read all the definitions of Pressure Acts. They are so broad, it borders on meaningless. The only Pressure Act that is relevant is one which results in a turnover by the opposition or a stoppage. In a recent Crows game, Laird and Gray had something like 40 tackles combined, and they lost the game. I've had no issue with ANB for a season and a half, but since the bye, he's been out of form. And our team structures have been dissected by the better teams who are prepared to take us on. Something needs to change.
  19. Trac hit up Sparrow in the corridor when he lowered his eyes. I initially thought it wasn't meant for Sparrow, but upon watching the replay, it was a superb pass. The ability is there if the coaches allow them some freedom to take a small risk.
  20. I've been harsh on Trac all year because I've thought his ball use has been poor, in addition to his goalkicking woes. But come Monday, he's regularly getting votes in the Coaches Award. Does Goody just see these stats as part of Chaos Ball?
  21. I wish we had that problem. Bruce looks cooked since his return from the ACL. They've used him as a second ruck to English, so he's probably not in their plans long term. A forward line of Lobb, Naughton and JUH is a perfect mix. Each has different qualities. And I think they're addressing their KPB issues. Keith and Darcy down back plus Liam Jones, and all of a sudden they look strong in that area.
  22. Their accuracy was relative to the lack of pressure we put on them. The looked like scoring every time they went onside 50.
  23. Why don't people consider goal kicking a skill? Luck has nothing to do with it when we're missing easy set shots, and they are kicking theirs. It's not like we've been accurate all year and just had an off night.
  24. In some cases it's poor technique. Those that are hook foots, struggle with set shots within 40 metres. It doesn't impact their field kicking, because it gives them power and they have a greater margin for error. Max is the worst offender, and Trac is next. Salem is also a hook foot, so I'd rather him taking a shot from 50m than 35m. Choco Williams has that special footy with the line up the middle which should eradicate the hook foots. Max and Trac should be practising their goal kicking with it. BBB and Fritsch have excellent techniques, but unfortunately have to take low percentage shots from the forward pocket. JVR also has an excellent technique, and it's just a shame that our match committee are too stubborn to play him. ANB and Spargo are technically sound, but ANB's confidence is shot, and Spargo lakes penetration over distance with his kicking. Repetition at training won't help them.
  25. It's only the supporters with their head in the sand who believe that Jackson hasn't made his decision to leave. And that includes those who think he'll stay if Melbourne aren't adequately compensated. I've said all along that our Football Dept / List Management team have always been forward thinking around the trade and draft periods. They like to get deals done early so that they can move on to the next deal. They're not like Dodo at Essendon, who will hold out just so that he thinks he's won the deal. I have faith in Tim Lamb and JT, and believe that they understand what a realistic trade with Freo looks like. And they'll use that draft capital to broker other deals. They wouldn't be wasting everyone's time by making ambit claims for Andy B, Young or Serong, as some suggest they should.
