Well said Gouga. Even if Newton doesn't play a senior game this year, he is definitely worth persisting with. He's played less than 20 gamse as a key position forward, and people want to write him off.
-
I see Morton as a Ryan Griffin type, who spent his early years as a creative half back, before being moved into the midfield. Haven't seen anything in Morton to suggest that he could play KP.
-
Whilst it's great to see our young key backs showing some promise, we still lack classy running defenders who have the skill and poise to get out of tight situations, and are creative with their use of the ball. If we're going to play a style of football the revolves around handballing when under pressure, Daniel Bell just don't cut it. Down the track, I could see Morton and Petterd filling these roles.

Now we just need RR to do a Fonz, and admit he was wrong. Nah, can't see it happening. B)

Spot on Deanox. I've been keen on him because he has the physical attributes to play key position, which is something that Carroll has never had. It's worth noting that most of the premier key backmen started their junior careers as forwards. Let's hope that Garland can follow this trend. However, if Warnock continues his form, I'm willing to eat humble about what I've written about him.

The club's ongoing strategy of not disclosing injuries has really thrown our opponents this year! This has been a bugbear of mine, and it's about time the club shows some respect to not only their supporters, but also to the players. The players would not be subjected to unjustified derision and ridicule, if the club was honest about the extent of their injuries. This season is already shot as far as making the finals, so what is to be gained by playing ducks and drakes with disclosing a players' injury?
-
Your quite happy to criticise Daniher, because of our poor showing in finals, yet you're full of praise for Craig, when Adelaide have achieved nothing in the finals under him. Do you recall his pigheadedness in leaving Kris Massie on a rampant Buddy Franklin against the Hawks last year, when he had one of the premier defenders in Ben Rutten in his side? And who are the "7, 8 or 9" players you perceive as trade bait, given that trades rarely go through these days?
-
He reminds me of a young David Wojcinski. He has flaws that can be ironed out over time, and definitely worth perservering with. I hope Bailey doesn't make him the team scapegoat by dropping him every 2nd week.
-
The fact of the matter is, Carroll's best doesn't cut it at AFL level. As hard as he tries, he just aint up to it. Garland may cop a flogging tomorrow, but i've seen qualities in his game that Carroll doesn't possess, and is worth persisting with. The best selection decision by Bailey this season.
-
Isn't this the round where we supposedly start picking sides for the future? Maybe this is a signal that Bailey doesn't see Carroll as a long term full back. And he would be correct with this judgement.

Nah, my experience in video games didn't progress past Pong.
-
Warnock - Definitely target for PSD, or give Freo a token draft pick. Mundy - Good player, but doesn't solve our need for a strong KP backman. Murphy - Potentially good player, but I wouldn't give anything more than a 3rd round draft pick for him.

Brad Green won't re-sign this year
mo64 replied to Garry Lyon's Leg Hair's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nah, behind that laugh (snigger), Green was probably saying to himself, "who's this f#ckwit think he is". However, he had the good sense to laugh it off. -
I'll be interested to see who gets the 2nd ruck position out of Meesen and Spencer. The jury is still out on Meesen in my opinion.

Barrett - "Melbourne worst team in the past decade"
mo64 replied to MelbourneRedlegs's topic in Melbourne Demons
And what is the relevance of this? Read the bloody thing properly. It says "one of the worst teams of the past decade". He doesn't say that we are the worst team over the past decade. Based on our performance in the first 6 rounds, he was dead right. -
Barrett - "Melbourne worst team in the past decade"

Spot on Ash. The title of this thread totally misconstrues the point of the article. -
Unless you have conclusive evidence to the contrary, to suggest that ND compromised BB's role is scurrilous.
-
Hannabal, you're up there with Rhino when it comes to quality posters.

Brad Green won't re-sign this year
mo64 replied to Garry Lyon's Leg Hair's topic in Melbourne Demons
After signing Judd, and the ongoing emergence of Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer, I wouldn't have thought that the Blues would have much room to move in their salary cap. -
An amazing improvement in 2 days. <_< It just goes to show how nonsensical it is to say that any player on our list wouldn't get a game with any other club, because if you're playing within a confident team, you're own performance will be enhanced.
-
I agree. He gets his hands on the ball like a good inside mid, but under pressure, his hand skills are poor at times. I'd actually like to see him played as an outside mid, because his foot skills are above average. This is a big call, but with Jones struggling with a heavy tag, I'd like to see Valenti promoted, because I actually think that he might be a better option as an inside mid than McLean.
-
But he can only do this if we have a structured forward line of marking, leading and crumbing forwards. Moloney gets berated by the coach for constantly doing the same thing as what White did. Geez, it makes a world of difference to the forwards if the 1st option is a kick, rather than watching the players up the ground handball it around to a player that's under just as much pressure. And you can tell that it's a coaching directive to handball when under pressure.
-
MFC4Life, maybe that's been our problem, Rhino HAS been giving the players a pep talk before the game. It probably goes like this: "You're a soft, talentless bunch, and 90% of you won't be at the club in 2 years, but I want Bails to keep his job, so go out there and win."
-
And what do you learn about a youngster who is playing poorly amongst a team that is playing poorly? For mine, Colin Garland is a case in point. When he's been in the seniors with a team that's low in confidence, he looks like a fish out of water, yet at Sandy, he's doing well. A full season in the seniors might totally shatter the kid's confidence.
