  1. Our poor on-field performance has been a major contributing factor to our current financial position, so don't feel too sorry for them.
  2. Valid points Gouga. The club needs to articulate the reasons why McNamee was incapable of implementing the new board's direction. If they don't, members and the general football world will see it as another waste of money. Having said that, the position will still attract quality candidates, simply because it's such a challenging role. I still believe that Stynes would have consulted the AFL prior to terminating McNamee's contract, and the AFL must have given their blessing.
  3. I think it's important that the club details exactly why McNamee has been given the flick. In this instance, the stock standard press conference spiel of "it's was a mutual decision" won't wash with me.
  4. I doubt it. Reports are that McNamee could resign as early as today. His reported pay out would $115,000, which is 25% of his salary. I wouldn't be surprised if the AFL had some input into all of this.
  5. Thanx Welchy for the rundown, especially the clarification of our salary cap rorts.
  6. Well obviously it wasn't that easy for the previous CEO, because as freo2008 pointed out, they were $8m in debt. Port Adelaide are also in debt. Just face it Rhino, your emotive rants have little factual basis. As for Freo's questionable culture, what do you make of the fact that we hired their previous coach as our Football Manager?
  7. When Schwab took over as CEO at Freo, they were a financial basket case. I think you'll find that he has turned their financial fortunes around.
  8. The statistical list the I quoted wasn't related to the article regarding power forwards and power midfielders. And Petrie did well to back up against the Hawks on Saturday night after playing against the Pies on Friday night. B)
  9. I'll defend any player with obvious football skills and awareness, because with confidence and opportunity, they can make an impact. (CJ is an example of that this year). That covers nearly everyone on our list. I won't defend players with little or no awareness. In the past, i've slagged off Godfrey, Williams and Nicholson, and of the current list, Daniel Bell fits this criteria. Basically, I don't like try hards.
  10. Very typical of your posting Rhino. Usage of obscure, demeaning words doesn't make you intelligent on a football website. You're debating skills are more suited to Parliament Question Time.
  11. He spent 65% of the time on the ground, and we had 26 less inside 50's, so where we these supposed opportunities that came his way?
  12. As i've repeated ad nauseum, but you fail to comprehend, the high possession game plan doesn't suit our list because we don't have speedy players who can evade a tackle, and carry the ball. At least give our forwards a chance of a contest, with a quick kick into the forward line, with crumbers waiting for the spill. Believe it or not Rhino, you actually have to kick goals to win a game, and that's difficult to do if you don't get the ball into your forward 50. But as long as you're happy with our miserable performances, that's all that matters.
  13. Correct. And where's the logic in him spending only 65% of the time on the ground.
  14. Bump. Freo game: Possessions - 37 more Clearances - 10 less 1st possessions - 6 less Inside 50's - 26 less As i've stated all year, our ball movement and team structure is garbage.
  15. So when does Rhino get suspended for his incessantly demeaning comments of Adem Yze? Double standards if you ask me.
  16. Spot on. At least he's prepared to take a tackle rather than give off a wayward handball. I find the criticisms of him similar to those directed at Rhys Palmer. It can't be easy being the no.1 in-and-under midfielder in a sh#t side.
  17. In today's Age, there is a list of each team's inside 50 differential, ie; no of times a side gets it inside their 50 compared to their opponents. Suffice to say that the top 3 teams being Geelong, Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs have the best differentials with +11.5, +8.4, and +7.0 respectively. At the other end of the scale, the sides with the worst differentials are the following: North Melbourne -3.5 West Coast -6.3 Essendon -8.3 Melbourne -14.2 The gap between ourselves and the 2nd worst is staggering. The figures that reaffirm my belief that our players over-possess the ball.
  18. For once, I agree with Rhino. Depending on whether we pick up Warnock and or Nik Nat, PJ would be a good trade proposition. His market value is probably at its highest at the moment, where as Jamar would have next to no trade value. Interestingly though, Jamar is DB's preferred 1st ruckman, which says something about their relative rucking skills.
  19. Is this rhyming slang? We seriously lack creative runners from defence. Buckley, Bartram and Bell can run, but they aren't creative. If the price was no higher than a 3rd round draft choice, I'd take him.
  20. Try these for size. It just goes to show that when it comes to talent identification, you have no credibility: I've seen 50 + Colin Garlands come and go over 30+ years. He gives me less hope than most. You can wet your pants over any glimmer of hope, and I'll wet my pants over a flag. I've seen lots of Aussies and I'm far from sold.
  21. Agree. Your early assessments of Garland and Wona testify to that. B)
  22. You hardly make a convincing case. All 3 played their junior and AFL football as kpps. Croad and Harley were both traded by their original clubs, and Neitz wasn't a draftee. The point that Freak is making is that we don't know what role Morton will end up playing. In the case of Palmer, you knew what you were getting because he'd excelled at senior WAFL level. And I'm not saying that Morton won't be a good footballer. I just don't know when it will happen.
  23. When it comes to early draft picks, I actually agree with this sentiment. I wanna know what I'm getting. For mine, players drafted for their "upside", can be hit or miss. A couple of examples are Brennan and Goddard. After 5 years in the system, we still don't know if they'll be elite players. As for Morton, I was rapt with what I saw of him in his early games. Today, he looked like he was lost out there, and the 21 disposals were flattering. His decision making was poor, and he seems loathe to kick the ball. After his last shot for goal, now I know why. And I don't buy the confidence thing.
  24. Agree with you initial sentiments, but I think he's worth more than just the remainder of the season. He's missed a large chunk of this season through injury, and he's got something that we're lacking. It's called TALENT. Miller has been more proficient since he's been the main man. I think that Newton will flourish with the additional responsibility.
  25. Give me a break. White's demise has come about with the introduction of the ruck circle. Prior to that, he was widely acknowledged as one of the premier ruckman. It's only natural that an ageing 195cm ruckman, who's asset is his leap, is going to struggle against younger giants. I can't imagine him playing on next year. White has been a wonderful servant at the club, and is deserving of a farewell game in round 22.
