Hi All, I thought I'd start a seperate topic for this, even there there is existing thread on Corona and its effect of AFL and the MFC. I have been thinking a lot lately about how the MFC will survive financially if this season is a bust. I know the AFL will assist in some way, but does anyone else think that starting a crowdfunding campaign could be a worthwhile idea. Some will say that they are a big organisation and small businesses would be a more worthy recipient of the money, and I can understand that argument. However, if things get dire, would 'Landers support a crowdfunding campaign to help make up the shortfalls our club would experience if the season is cancelled. Memberships are great and all, but I am thinking beyond that. Would the MFC meet the requirements of https://www.mycause.com.au/about-us for example? Just a spitball idea, but keen to see whether others have thought about this.

I actually was discussing this with my wife tonight. What’s stopping me from walking to the entrance of the G in rd 2 and sitting in Yarra park watching the game on my tablet device? Coz that’s what I’m planning to do haha. Just to feel close to the game.

I can take the driving the player into the ground argument, but as pointed out earlier, if the umpires stopped play sooner and rewarded the tackler, there would be far less instances of what you describe. For the record, Viney did not 'fling' a player into the ground. Ridden or drove him into the ground, more accurately.

what would Sidney Stack have received if Viney had have been concussed from the bump he dished out? Genuine question....I have no issue with Stack's bump, it was perfectly executed. But, the media were quick to scrutinise Jack for the potential harm a tackle 'could have' caused. If we are heading down that road, its arguable that every bump and/or tackle is in trouble. This is like the old 'attempted striking' debate. There was a reason why they got rid of it. It's a can of worms. Maybe if the umpires were quicker to blow the whistle and stop play sooner there wouldn't be these issues. Hawthorn, in particular' were given an eternity to 'get the ball out' the other night. I understand the AFL want the game to flow, but by allowing the tackled player too much time to dispose of the football, you are forcing players to drive their opponents into the turf, so as to ensure the ball doesn't come out. Just my take.

Hibbos disposal was ordinary and he was pretty poor below his knees. He has a habit of kicking balloon balls to no one.

Tom McDonald has got off lightly here tonight. What’s his current role? He was fumbly again. No real influence on the game at all.

Watching the Eagles game now, it’s apparent that we are so far behind the top clubs in terms of facilities. Their training facility is elite and it’s no surprise that they are always around the mark

ahhh 186...i remember the day well. I was in Koh Samui, Thailand and had ventured to some sports bar on the main road, footy jumper on, looking like a right Aussie yobbo. I made acquaintances with a couple of elderly ladies, who had clearly ventured from their 5 star accommodation and were far away from their usual seats on the balcony of the MCC. We spent the pre-game talking about season '87 and Robbie Flower, Jimmy and days gone by. By halftime we were a morbid gathering. These ladies were as passionate as I and could not believe how pathetic we were that day. It jiust got worse and worse. I just kept ordering Chang Beers to numb the pain. They left at 3/4 time and I sat there, alone, watching what I thought was the death of my club. Despite the beautiful surrounds of Chaewang beach, I'd never felt so low as a Dees supporter. A hip flask of Sang Som later and I was more jovial, until the resort I was in started playing the replay on the Australia Network, across all four TV's in the bar and poolside. Will never forget it. Clearly I should have drunk more to erase what I had witnessed.

This really has to be a priority. After going to the Women's game on Friday night at Moorabbin and then our match on Saturday at Casey, I see that we are way behind other clubs in this regard and its been going on for too long. There is no identity at Casey. No memorabilia. Nothing that establishes the 'Melbourne brand'. We are in a small, unadvertised part of AAMI Park with no space to establish our own facilities. The training facilities at AAMI are fine. Better than fine, they are of good quality. However, we need a space to hold proper family days, have merchandise advertised and historical memorabilia displayed. It is all important to establishing ourselves. When we recently changed the logo and the way the club was branded, it was said that there was a renewed focus on bringing the 'Melbourne' name to the forefront. The graphic designer wanted the MFC monogram to be as well known as the NY Yankees. That is great in theory, but without prominent signage, a club museum and a place to conduct tours, this is just a pipe dream.

It was his idea to introduce it. It was his preferred model. However, with the inclusion of a few new assistants, he has recognised that an individual 'sole' captain may be a better model. Stand by for announcement.

Jack is an extremely selfish player. How often does he try to be the macho man and bust tackles, when the sensible thing would have been to dish it off? Countless. He also does not have a great connection with teammates. While captaincy should not be a popularity contest, they usually are popular with the group. From what I know, Jack is respected, but not a particularly popular figure amongst players.
