  1. Sort of like his decision to play Harmes, one of our most attacking mids in 2018, in the backline. It boggles my mind.
  2. Micheal Reeves from Fitzroy ran the long pants due to his condition as a haemophiliac
  3. The reports I’ve seen said he was down back all game
  4. So based on Lever’s write up, Goodwin is backing the midget forward line to get the job done. He mentioned Weid and TMac playing high HF roles and relying on Melky Fritta and Kozzie. This may work on transition once in a while, but given that we often win the midfield battle and bomb forward, the disconnect will continue. Any coach, who had 3 months to review any of the tapes from rd 1, would be able to pick that up. Then you have McDonald’s interview, which was less than convincing. He suggests that supporters may still feel frustrated by the forward structure. That sounded more like he was frustrated. Probably because he is again being played out of position. hate to sound pessimistic, but the script seems written. Dominate the midfield, win clearances, have good defence but cannot convert inside 50s to goals. A losing formula. And when we get outnumbered on the rebound, sides cut ya up and score easily. happy to be proven wrong, but I don’t think this side is going anywhere under Goodwin. He seems stubborn and talks a lot, but we never see the action. A real salesman
  5. See I heard that Goodwin planned to play Jackson as a midfielder.
  6. I’d suggest trying to contact them via social media. The Facebook team seem very responsive. That might be the best avenue. Would love to get a few members of this page to send them a Facebook message to tell them we are here to help.
  7. Maybe, but hasn’t really had a proper crack up forward. That one preseason game against Brisbane was the cause of hype around him as a forward. Then we alsomst destroyed his career. From the club website on Petty. Petty is expected to continue to train as a defender, but could be a valuable swingman for Melbourne in years to come. So, add another one to the backs. We seriously mustn’t want to score. Petty kicked three in one game last year, his best return. No other matches with multiple goals from the ten he played. Not sold
  8. I don’t get the fascination with him. I’ve seen glimpses, but also seen him waste shots on goal. Unreliable kick at goal for mine, and we have enough of those.
  9. Wait, so Joel Smith is now a defender and we won’t look to play him forward? Where does Goodwin think our goals are coming from? He has everyone playing back. Harmes, probably our most attacking mid is down there. Smith. Salem. Oscar. Is there any chance we could get some support for McDonald up forward. Or we gonna leave it to the undersized Fritsch? Maybe he will try Spargo at FF. It wouldn’t surprise me. Surely Weiderman or Jackson come in for Brown, who was deplorable against WCE.
  10. Absolutely. And this was the point I was making earlier in this thread. We too often sit back and wait. People here say “but everyone is doing it tough, no one has money”. Go look at the shopping malls this weekend. Loads of people out buying pointless crap. Look at Bunnings. Packed with shoppers. Many people are receiving more money through government payments than they did when working full time. Yes, some are receiving less, but it’s time to set up some fundraising strategies. No one is suggesting we can make up the $6 million in lost revenue through donations alone, but I’d be looking at ways to minimise the damage. Let’s be frank, there are plenty..plenty ... of Dees fans with money. Those MCC majority aren’t unable to find 50 bucks to put towards a ‘charitable cause’. Asking people for a donation now may be easier than in 6-12 months when the game is running as normal. People will look at it and say, “ahh well, it’s all good, we got the loan from the AFL, crowds are coming back, business as usual again. They don’t need my help”. Again, people will say there are others in greater need of the money. We are ‘supporters’ of this club. It needs our support right now. People are free to pick and choose what organisations they support at this time. No issue with that. But as a fan and member of a struggling club, I’ll choose to support something that I care about to ensure its survival. End rant.
  11. Yep, I tried to call today, got same thing. I am wanting to buy another membership to support the club. I am already a long time member. I wanted to buy another, but can’t even get on to the club. This is why I pointed out that if the club needs help, they need to ask. I’ll make calls at night from a call centre or using my own phone as a volunteer. We can’t be this complacent
  12. Having watched the rugby league all weekend m, it should definitely be utilised by the AFL. Just the background cheering during play, after goals and maybe when an obvious “baaaallllllllll” tackle is laid.
  13. We’ve asked that we get QB and ANZAC eve as home matches next year, given that they rotate. At the very very least, if they are not ours next year, it should be a split gate 50/50 with both games getting 90k. Our home match in 2022. I would expect us to get both as home matches in 2021
  14. Side note, channel 9 news tonight has flagged tht the MFC have made fixture requests. Details to follow in 20 mins. No idea if this is related to this year, or whether it will be next years Qb and Anzac Eve games. Tune in.
  15. If we get 13k members to sign up, we can make up $1-2 million. It would really help. I’d like to be borrowing as little as possible from the League, as it will accumulate interest in time. We have to get proactive and chase the members. Even if we only make up the $1 million by reducing membership prices, it’ll be worth it in the long run. Strong member numbers are the key to attracting sponsors too. So it’s not just the money in the pocket, it’s the overall power position it puts the club in to negotiate sponsorship.
  16. We have had three months to think about how to raise revenue shortfalls, I’m just not hearing anything from the club about ideas to do so. For example, empty stands, have we thought about tarps to cover seats with additional sponsors? Fan cutouts like the nrl had, are we considering it? Businesses that have adapted during this period are surviving, those that aren’t are going under. We need to be proactive, not reactive when the darkest days come.
  17. See this is the attitude that gives me the ****ees... let’s wait and see how bad things get before we ask supporters for help. Just get on it. Any extra money to make up for short fall is a positive. Stick it in a future fund if needs be. Invest it. I don’t care, but clubs that are reliant on the AFL year after year will be gone within 5 years.
  18. Fund raising... sounds pretty smart.
  19. The biggest thing to come out of that 30 minute podcast with Pert and Bartlett is that we need the unsigned members to sign up. We need those who are supporters to become members. However, I feel the club has actually done stuff all to encourage and plead with the supporters to sign up. Neither spoke about strategic measures to ensure that happens. What are they offering members to sign up? There are a lot of token gestures that would encourage someone to sign up. Start coming up with one. A signed poster. A personal phone call from a player. They appear to think that doing a podcast and telling a small audience that we need the support is enough. Do they want volunteers to man the phones and call members. I’d do it for nothing. I’ve done it before. I’m sure there are people here who have volunteered before. What revised membership packages are you thinking about? A lot of talk, but what are we actually doing to get the members contributing. I don’t think the old 1 page email works anymore. Get on social media and start a campaign. Tell the supporters what the worst case scenarios are if we don’t get people signed up. Don’t sit back and wait on the members to do the work for you. I am sorry if I sound negative, but for too long this club has sat back and expected things to happen. I want a more proactive approach. It’s been months now and we haven’t heard a plea or a call to arms. Are we too proud to do stuff like that? I proposed a GoFundMe idea months ago and everyone thought it was the wrong timing. When is the right timing? For how long do we allow finances to get away from us before we put the hand out? Let’s make it happen NOW!
  20. The MCC Logo will have to move then
  21. That’s not what has been proposed. That was a big footy designer knocking up EPL inspired designs. I imagine they’d look more like what the SANFL jumpers look like.
  22. I flagged this on the Furphy thread, but thought it deserved a separate platform. The strong rumour going around is that AFL clubs are looking at adding additional sponsors logos to the front of jumpers in 2021, to make up the shortfall in revenue. Jumpers have always been sacred in our game and many opposed the back of jumper additions in the 90s, then came short sponsors. I am led to believe that clubs are looking at a large front of jumper sponsor, much like NRL and EPL. This was flagged on social media yesterday and Andy Maher and Bob Murphy mentioned it on SEN this afternoon. Would you mind a large sponsor logo on the front of the jumper? What companies would you like to see on the jumper? I am of the opinion, as long as the text is a neutral white or uses our existing colours, I am happy to see it for a season or two. Interested in the thoughts of other ‘Landers.
  23. On a side note, I saw something today about AFL clubs looking to sell advertising real estate on the back of the jumper. Looking at adding additional sponsors.
