Dees to meet with AFL Commission after disastrous 2019
Surely we'd be going in there along the lines of So what went wrong? Well, Uncle Gilly, as the only club in the AFL without a real home, we're unfortunately struggling for our identity. We once had a fortress, but for one reason or another, that's been given away to our biggest opposition, and then shared among other clubs that have exploited our oppression. You have a home Gil, where the au pairs nurture (frolic with) the beautiful children (or is it the other way around??). We need the same. So here's the deal, [censored]. Pre-season fine, we'll use Goschs. We need facilities within the G for everything else, and we want to train on the ground in season. We will be the only club that has that advantage, because, well, we are Melbourne. With all of the AFL and state government funding provided to other clubs to move and grow as they like, I believe the AFL need to show us the same commitment and assist us in a deal to fund our new (old) home. Also, in regards to this priority pick nonsense. If you were to grant a PP to the Gold Coast, you'd be admitting that early draft picks can assist a club in moving up the ladder. That would also be admitting that when Melbourne was at it's lowest point, and the 2 newest clubs to the competition were taking all of the draft advantages they were given, you were actually crucifying us as a club, condemning us to a prolonged period at the bottom of the ladder, damaging our finances moving forward. On those grounds you simply cannot continue to hurt this club any longer by allowing another draft pick ahead of ours. Unless of course the GCS wish to hand us a player like Jack Martin for nothing. You know, Jarrod Lyons style.

Angus Brayshaw to Fremantle Rumours
If we truly want to be a successful club, and get ahead of the game, we need to be ruthless. Trade Brayshaw and pick up Coniglio for nothing. Or we can let the Cats trade Kelly, and pick up Coniglio for nothing. Which makes you feel better?

Umpiring article
Exactly right. This idea of interpretations, especially happening during the season is absurd at best. Having professional players expected to go out and perform to their best when they don't even know what rules are going to be applied? It's ridiculous.

Umpiring article
Every year there are rule changes, and every year players are forced to deal with that, or in the end they're discarded due to lack of performance. Every year there are rule changes, and every year umpires should be forced to deal with that, or in the end they should be discarded for lack of performance. There is however another factor at play here, which none of us are aware of. The secret directives coming from the AFL for umpires to pay certain rules, not pay others, interpret a rule in a different way. This is the problem, and this is why it's become impossible to umpire. The throws coming out of tackles, which all the top teams are doing now is clearly against the rules of the game, yet ignored, who's idea was that? The Gawn straight arm rule, it's not written like that anywhere, where'd it come from? Perfect example. Read this article and in particular the quotes from everyone's favourite umpire. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/below-the-knees-unless-they-change-the-rule-they-ll-keep-paying-it-20190408-p51c2o.html That rule has been a shocker. It was initially introduced to stop players sliding into a players legs causing injuries. The umpires are being coached to pay a free kick for anything forceful below the knees. It's not the same. The deliberate OOB rule is a joke. Asking an umpire to look deep into the mind of the disposer to know if they were deliberately kicking the ball out? I mean come on, it doesn't get more amateur than that. They probably get it right more than wrong though, so kudos. If anything needs an external review, it's AFL rules and officiating.

Lewis Whacks Playing Group
Even more important to clean them out. I recall there were some high profile (for us) names mentioned in that story. Happy to see them all moved on, this off season, before it's too late.

Ben McKay
Hang onto those crinkle cuts. Do we have a packet of that flat rubbish to flick em?

Lewis Whacks Playing Group
In that case Earl, with Macca gone, I hope we're looking to also exit the senior players involved as well. The cancer can't be allowed to grow, it must be cut out until the culture is up to standard. Cannot have the tail wagging the dog.

TRAINING: Wednesday, August 21, 2019
This is what I was saying should've happened last week. How often does a new player come in and fail when played out of position??? We know Preuss can play ruck, let's play him in that role to get his confidence at the level up, then try him forward. We need to know if he's up to the level before we commit to it in the pre-season. It would've been nice to slaughter Aliir last week for some confidence before attacking Goldy, but so be it.

Jordan Lewis Announces Retirement
From a purely financial and list management perspective, any idea how much comes off the books with his retirement?
