Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A snippet from a Ben Guthrie article on afl.com.au from this mornings training. While McDonald's determination to keep presenting at the footy was noteworthy, Kade Kolodjashnij's foot skills; Bayley Fritsch's aerial ability, as well as his decision-making, and Michael Hibberd's run and carry were among the other highlights of the match practice.- 78 replies

Saty apologies if I have missed the actual response to this but what does "he is where he should be mean"? Do you when he is likely due into full training? In rehab is there certain elements he has not participated in? Do we expect him to be right for season start or expected to be later. He and Lever are the two for me appear to be least likely to be ready to go but Billy needs as good a run in as he can get if he wants to secure a wing I would think. -
Complacency is Dees Biggest Hurdle
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think its about complacency, particularly with the personalities we have and the spark from the way we finished the year. It will be can we handle true expectation. We are expected to make finals and expected to be a contender. We will be the hunted most weeks, one of those teams the opposition set themselves for. -
Bernie Vince talks up Tom Sparrow on SEN

Look at the stats and take your rose coloured glasses off. He is a poor field kick and a mediocre set shot. Gets above average distance but has no accuracy. Exhibit A below: https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/richmond/champion-data-reveal-best-worst-kick-rating-in-the-afl-in-the-drill-podcast/news-story/1244ac1fcfe2c2833fe6a4f4d6a5392c -
What a loss for the hawks. Hopefully back to his best in 2020. Anyone who is happy about this has issues. I want to beat the best at their best and wish injury on no one.

Being a crap kick has not stopped Dangerfield from being a jet. -
On paper and based on talent great but that forward line would not win you a premiership in today's footy. I would also expect they would struggle to have 1 inside 50 tackle between them in a full season

Origins/meanings of Display Names?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to maximum bob's topic in Melbourne Demons
During a heavy day with the lads at a pub early 2000's I was watching one of Troy Broadbridge's early awkward games and after a surprising piece of play yelled at the TV "go you big red fire engine". I followed him with curiosity during his early time at Sandy and across his 40 games for the MFC. I joined this site the year after his passing and it just felt right at the time as a reminder that there is so much more than football.- 182 replies

Makes some interesting reading. https://www.zerohanger.com/champion-data-reveal-best-worst-kicks-2017-14091/ Has Hunt in the best 10 kicks of 2017 based on a variance between the difficulty of the attempted kick and the % of those kicks then hit. Proves you can make stats support almost any outcome.

I assume you will have T-Mac and Weid in your best 22? Now do your side if one is unavailable. Now do your side if both are unavailable. There is best 22 and then next up based on position. If this happens it appears we will be playing one tall KPF or relying on the resting ruck as the second tall or expecting the role to filled by one of two Smiths or Keilty. The only other would be to tinker with our back 6 which i suspect will be unlikely. Another year for Ped as the last spot on our list I would have thought would have been a reasonable contingency. T Smith I feel is limited but really has not had a clear run of it once he has made the senior side.

1. Full season from Viney 2. Trac has a breakout 3. Lever's full recovery 4. Weid build's on Geelong EF and signs early 5. Hunt and Kola get back to previous promise. 6. The Gawn/Preuss double delivers 7. TMac outscores the bloke that went west 8. May proves he is the gorilla tamer we have desperately needed

Troy Broadbridge ... 26 December, 2004
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Forever rest in peace you big red fire engine. -
There has been a marked improvement post season in the consistency and quality of both articles and multimedia. This was an article however that did nothing but highlight something not being answered (why is Gus not in full training).
-
Weid is the most important signing and Salem will be interesting as to the club and players perception of worth in both contract length and $$$ If you are looking at where we may need to further improve without knowing the output of the current crop we have recruited then Phillips, Gresham, Z Jones, Lewie Taylor should all be enquired into. I still think we need midfield run and a touch of zip around half forward/midfield. I have ignored the unrealistic option of either Kelly.

I don't have an issue with this but then don't do a club article that brings attention to it.

Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Satyriconhome's topic in Melbourne Demons
Unsure where to put this query and apologies if it has been answered but do we know what is up with Angus and lack of siting on the trackl. Article on the MFC website today about the traditional Brayshaw brothers 100 x 100s on Xmas day but he mentions he cant participate this year but does not state why. It kind of made no sense to do an article about something he is not doing this year but anyway.... -
Vote Melbourne's best goal of 2018
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to low flying Robbo's topic in Melbourne Demons
My fave of the year was not in the 10. Oliver's gather and snap in round 3 v Nth after being pushed to full forward. It was the point where I thought is there anything this man can't do. Melksham's for the combo of skill and importance must be the winner surely. -
The Big Trades of 2015, 2017 and 2018
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to youami's topic in Melbourne Demons
A great read. Oliver on his own is worth all the players and picks we missed. -
Not saying I agree with the AFLX focus but.... Increased world TV rights. Licence fees if it takes off in a country. Potential to uncover international AFLX talent that can translate to trial AFL as an international rookie. I would prefer they create AFLX and fiddle with rules for an international version there than attempt to refine the pure game into a farce that may suit.
-
Yet you have included someone with no exposed AFL form nor even any pre-season guides to allude to... Sorry still a bit lost.
-
You lost me as soon as you said it was on preseason form then included Hore for round 1 who is a recruit who has not even trained with the main group. How does this logic stand up?

I am amazed that people are missing the number 1 point. They don't give a hoot how it goes here. That is why it is a mickey mouse event. They do care about showing it overseas and seeing if they can create interest for other countries to play it. There is no way AFL can break new markets for true participation. However AFLX with smaller grounds needed, less people per team, high speed, less contact.

Lewis Giving It Everything in 2019
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed. Its a BS headline and has no relevance to what he says quoted in the article. I dont think Lewis is the type that would know how to prepare any other way. -
Disagree we already had Jones proven and Viney, Petracca and Brayshaw were all known for their want of contested ball and had just drafted Oliver for the same (granted no exposed AFL form at that time). In the next 2 years they will lose Kreuzer, Murphy, Simpson who would arguably be 3 of their best 5. Based on the team you have put up I see alot of outside ball and very little inside ball. Even with that I see a lot of limited players on exposed form.
-
Cripps aside, who is going to and get the ball? Cripps, Docherty and possibly Curnow aside who are the definite A grade talent based on exposed potential? A lot of what if there.
