There was basically no pressure coming through the middle of the ground. Frawley and T-Mac did not have great games today though and were both well beaten.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 22
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Worthy 6. Toumpas 5. Dunn 4. N Jones 3. Spencer Making up the numbers 2. Watts 1. Trengove -
Couldn't get a clearance. Couldn't dispose the ball out of the back 50 or into the forward 50. Too many believe that 100% effort is optional particularly our half forwards who don't work hard enough. Backs and forwards will look like gold once that middle bit is fixed but its barely under construction.

Grimes I believe just played the worst individual quarter of football I have seen.
-
Tapscott and Howe are seriously lazy players. Take out the 5 minute patch where they kicked 4 goals and it has probably been our best balance of endeavour and ball movement this year. Toumpas once he improves his core strength over the preseason will be a seriously good player.
-
Matt Jones impact has dropped off significantly in the second half of the year. Terlich easily.

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Scorpions
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
What we have done previous years in removing players from selection is not right. Nor would it be right to not promote players in form or drop players earning a spot just so they qualify for the VFL. What has occurred this year with Hogan, Blease and Strauss injured and others one game short is purely bad luck. Toump has had 28 and 30 and deserves to be promoted to play a game in front of family and friends in SA.- 86 replies

Hogan set to miss VFL finals
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Good Times Grimes's topic in Melbourne Demons
Disappointing as he deserved to share in Casey's finals tilt as he has been a massive reason for it. However once he hurt his knee the most important thing for him and club was to ensure he is cherry ripe physically and mentally for day 1 of pre-season. -
Just watching his highlight reel on the MFC site and its easy to forget how quick and elusive he was prior to his knee taking away that edge. Not many players can say they changed the way footy was played. I think he can.
-
I would play him forward with stints in the midfield (not ruck). Actually I just want to see him play.

Players who won their position 6. Viney 5. T McDonald 4. J McKenzie Players who had the next best impact 3. Trengove 2. Kent 1. Dunn

Players like Viney, Hogan and Toumpas who seriously hurt after a loss, hate losing and not getting the best out of themselves. That is where our future is. Anyone that doesn't fit this future can go as far as I am concerned and this includes Mr Watts.

Casey Scorpions v Bendigo Gold (Jesse Hogan hurt)
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
5 goal performance by Tags but not in the bests so unsure if deserved of a senior match. However if he is expected to be there next year I can see value in giving a game in one of the last two. I can also see value in letting Toump play out the year at VFL level and build on the confidence I would think 30 possession games would give him going into his first full preseason. I dont care whether Magner is in our future plans if we lose well today as expected you MUST reward a player who gets 50 touches. -
Casey Scorpions v Bendigo Gold (Jesse Hogan hurt)

How many goals off top spot in the goal kicking is young Jesse? -
It's not an issue that we didn't take Rockliff before Jurrah it is every teams issue that no one took him with any pick before Jurrah.
-
He needs to play high half forward. He has been played deeper second half of year and since then his work rate has significantly diminished as has his impact.

My 3 word player analysis v Gold Coast
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
Grimes looks ill. He has lost serious body mass since his shoulder and is gaunt in the face. Agree he lacks polish. -
DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 20

They got on top for the 5 minutes Jones was off but otherwise we have been good but made some errors.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Best of luck to Davis. Should have played him at the height of his form not as it waned. Why promote Magner then not play him or even have him as an emergency? Craig's mantra that we will reward for when Strauss can't get a game after being in the bests 3 of 4 weeks especially when 90% of the side can't kick. Gawn and Toumpas fair outs but plenty could have followed particularly Davey, Howe, Byrnes. McKenzie was always going to get a game particularly after 30. -

Blease did and then made the most of that opportunity with a 4 disposal game against North. If Strauss doesn't get a game this week after another naming in the bests something is wrong. Does anyone know if the Tynan mentioned is Luke or Josh?
-
Anyone who wants us to trade early picks for the best on offer because we cant afford to wait for kids to develop should watch Wingard and Crouch carve it up in the Showdown today and wonder if they would want to miss out on the similar if we got the pick right.
