  1. Those who are sick of the Scully Saga and wish it to go away should think again. Thats what GWS, the Scully's and Vlad want desperately. The longer the story goes more of the truth gets drip fed and the more embarrassing it becomes for them. Recent loose comments by Tom and the extraordinary outburst by Vlad indicate they are under pressure and maybe not in full control. It must be hard for Vlad being used to arrogantly sweeping success before him having to constantly fend off scandal at his pet club. I hope he is coming to the realisation he may have made a horrible mistake in rolling out GWS, anointing the ridiculous sum of money frittered away on the Scully deal and the loss of goodwill and trust for the AFL. I would not be surprised if he is under pressure within the AFL also. I want to see this saga continue till the full truth gets out. There is more to come. And if it drives the Scully's and Vlad crazy then all the better. There is a lot of payback outstanding. And it's still a long way before real footy starts again.

  2. I think there's no doubt Andy feels no sympathy for us after having to say that tanking doesn't exist.

  3. Couldn't agree more WJ. I particularly like her last par: "But the club faces a tougher task repairing the damage done to Tom Scully and his once-perfect reputation. No wonder the player is so desperate to let his on-field work begin. Because off-field has been a messy thicket." For me, there's no coming back from this. His reputation has been damaged forever and that is the price he must pay for such dishonest behaviour. An appauling lack of judgement from him and his so-called advisors.

  4. I'm with you Wyl - why should we "Move on" or "Let it go" ? There has to be more to this story and I want to know what it is . I mean , did GW$ offer the Dad the contract in November last year " Out of the blue"? They must have thought about it for some time in my opinion . So how far does this go back ? The same people wanting us to move on will probably be booing T$ with gusto when we play GW$ - not exactly "Moving on" me thinks . I've heard that Sheedy first met T$ on a schoolboys tour of South Africa a few years ago - interesting if true hey ?

  5. As a paid up member, and i suspect the majority of us on here are, i have no problem discussing the $cully situation until all the grotty facts cme to the surface. I applaud Caro for the article, and i certainly have never been her greatest fan in the past. 15 other clubs could have been shafted in 2011...but they weren't. The MFC was done. If we "had" to stay quiet all year in order to recieve our "Gift" from the AFL, well that is deplorable. I don't think CS would speak on the radio as he did mid year if he knew all the facts, but maybe he had to. What did McChins actually know back in march this year? More than you and i. I want this Putrid saga to be all out in the open, yes the club will move on,but we can still keep questioning this one. The AFL CEO has over stepped big time and we have a right to know all.

  6. 1989 draft is my favourite (http://demonwiki.org/1989+Draft) Traded in Steven Clark (21 games), Trevor Spencer (3) and Michael Scott (0) then drafted.. 25 - Paul Rouvray (0) 57 - Tim Moreland (0) 71 - Glenn Wilkins (0) 85 - Anthony Tohill (0) A low day for early era drafting

  7. It's pathetic, Demetriou saying on Friday that it was a 'stroke of genius' was just the most disgusting piece of shyte thats ever come out of that toerag's mouth and that's saying something considering the sewerage he usually spills out.

  8. Well ... to me it's your post that's sad and unfortunately, far too reflective of the views of many Melbourne people who are only too glad to bury their heads in the sand and walk away when their club has been screwed by the shonks in charge of the game because "there's nothing we can do about it so let's move on". That's usually a prelude to your club getting screwed over next time as well when the Chooks of this world will shake their heads and say, "let's move on". For the record, the Scully thing is over and I'm glad he's gone and taken his thirty pieces of silver with him. I'm grateful that Garry Lyon came along and installed a new coach who looks like he knows what he's doing and is setting us up for the future. Scully doesn't figure in those plans and is now redundant as far as our club is concerned. Good for him and his family and I trust he enjoys playing in front of empty stands at Skoda Stadium. The trouble is that Demetriou and his yes men in the media remain and the culture they've set up is going to do more damage to the fabric of our game. The only difference is that the next victim of this insidious system will be Essendon/St. Kilda/North Melbourne or perhaps Collingwood. Take your pick. Caroline Wilson nailed it and exposed the lies and the hypocrisy exactly for what they were. We shouldn't be shamed out of discussing this important issue.

  9. I definitely think some of the theorey behind this is that we were small and got pushed around easily last year. Neeld wants us to be physically stronger. The current 22 (watts and jurrah, howe and green) aren't that sort of player, at least yet. The developing crop (cook, gawn) will take another 2-3 years before they are playing consistant senior footy, and probably another 1-2 before they are physically strong enough. By drafting Seller we add height and strength to the list. Will he play 20 games and be valuable? Who knows. But if we need to fill a gap with a mountain for the purpose of making a contest for Watts and Jurrah to run around near, he can probably do that, and no one else on our list can. And if the opposition does not respect him with a tall and strong opponent, he will likely stand out; against 2nd or 3rd tall defenders he will likely have a height and weight advantage, making him dangerous, even if he is only an average player. And if Seller takes that key defender it means Watts/Jurrah/Howe all step down the ladder to lesser defenders as well. OK so Mitch Clark might be taking this role most of the time, and is the better footballer of the two. But having Seller on the list does two things: one, it gives us versatility if Mitch goes down, or if he has to go into the ruck to cover Jamar, or Seller can go back if required as well. And, two, if he isn't playing AFL, Casey will have a big tall bloke up forward, playing a similar role to Mitch Clark. You may not think that helping Casey in this way is important. But as far as I'm concerned we want the players at Casey to play as similar to the MFC as possible, to make for easier transitions from VFL to AFL levels, and to aid player development. If we have a short forward line at Casey, how will we instigate the same game plan we use at AFL level?

  10. RM, I agree that the genuine crumbing forward and a quick tight defender to play on opposition equivalents are holes in the list, but I think the crumbing forward is an icing on the cake position: for a crumber to be effective he needs contests to crumb off. We have drafted players to make contests. It really looks to me that we will start kicking it to contests, which we may not expect to win (i.e. mitch clark won't be taking 20 marks a week) but we will expect contests rather than kicks to unmarked opposition defenders like happened sometimes this year. RE the small quick defender, I am not sure how critical this position is. Sure we struggle to match up on a couple of these players, but we often use Frawley or Garland on La Cras or Milne to reasonable effect, and Benell and Bartram can fill that role without excelling. Unless we were going to pick up a player that would do the role better than any of our current options, it would be redundant drafting for it. And TBH I thought that was the sort of role that Josh Tynan currently plays (small defender, 187cm 76kgs, although perhaps he is more of a running defender rather than a tagging defender?).

  12. Of all the journalists and all the football administrators in the land there is not one man with the cohunas to stand up and expose the shameful collusion between the AFL and GWS and the connivance of those involved in the Scully Scandal but there is one woman who today does make a statement - A Giant miscue lost in the crowd Caroline Wilson. I salute you!

  13. Has there ever been a player drafted in the history of the game, who wasn't lauded by every coach in the country? Ever heard a summation that goes along the lines of 'He's a real spud who should go pick 20-30. Can't kick, but tries hard. Got 4 touches one day and won a colour telly. We picked him up because his Dad supplies meat to Safeway'. EVERY player is a versatile quick, busts open packs, great hands, Jonathan Brown - type, Judd - like, Buddy - like... Give me a break.

  14. Twelve months ago, Tom Hawkins was going nowhere. Two months ago he won the Cats a grand final. The big fellas take time. Hopefully we can get something good out of him!
