I really dont mind them playing an open forward line like that. Theres no one else who can really kick the goals anyways. Force turnovers, quick kicks into f50 to one on one contests.

Doesn't matter who plays in the backline. We are gettting hammered all over the ground, the ball is coming in to the backline too easily and quickly. We could have the best backline the afl has to offer, and they would still get beaten due to our weaknesses all over the field.

Carroll and Bell have tried their a##es off, and been good in patches. With the ball coming in less, our backline will look a little better, still not great, but better.

There were occasions against Hawks where someone could have cut across the flight of the ball which was being delivered to Franklin but it didn't happen. Carroll needs more support.

As Wrathchild said, it doesn't really matter who plays in the backline, especially against a team like Geelong. With the pathetically weak and fumbling midfield we have become used to over the past two weeks, any backline in the league wouldn't stand a chance.

That said, I think our backline is a glimpse of hope. If Rivers returns, we are regaining a greatly skilled centre half back; Rivers has the proven ability to be one of the best h/b's in the competition.

I also thought Carrol was a cornerstone of strength against W/B. He was especially solid in the 4th Q, taking strong marks at f/b.

As mentioned, Bell too has been doing the work of 3 men, and played reasonably well.

If these 3 can take charge, even with our weak mid-field, we could avoid a 100 + point deficit.

It'll be a tough task for all of them the way the Geelong midfield bought the ball into their forward line today, good luck lads!

And it'll be a huge task for Rivers to play his first game in almost a year, given the stepup in pace it will be compared to the VFL
