Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bailey's new assistant player coaches - The Age

Recommended Posts

This to me seems to be part of Bailey's new concept to learn from current/just retired players - The concept of coaching that won him the job.....

I reckon the leadership group is made up more of assistant coach types than just potential leaders. Just my view...... and this explains the lack of youth

Very similar to how Port have utilised retired and even current players into the coaching box ...... Josh Mahoney ring a bell?

I found the tone of the article anoying if not a bit offensive. Is there any proof selecting young guys in the leadership group is a better formula? Ffs Melbourne would have gone though the process and you have to hope they know better than the author? I guess it's easier to write negative tripe.

Yeah...

Because according to these so-called experts, leaders are supposed to be players under 21. I thought leaders were supposed to be experienced? If this guy had his way Jones, Brock, Moloney, Davey and Miller would be leading the club. What a twit.

Apparently Richmond has it right promoting Newman and some guy who's only been with the club a year. So yep, let's follow suit with the weakest and worst club at the moment, and the wooden spooners of 2007 eh? They ALWAYS get it right...

This clown is clearly a Carltank fan who thinks that a leadership group that comprises twelve players is the way to go, and among them an 18 year old who hasn't even played a game.

Football media = more incompetent than CBA and Telstra put together.

Clinton, we miss you.

And that is best part about it.... As per usual, these negative sentiments from people in the media will come back to haunt them later in the year when Melbourne is the "big suprise packet"

Having nothing to lose, coming from the bottom of the ladder seems to be a great motivator for Melbournefc's to prove these people wrong, and you watch, it will happen again this year

So I say bring on all the negativity, because they are only fuelling the fire. <_<

We don't take advise from journalistic heroes, but I can understand where they are coming from.

It is rather odd that a relatively young side, which has only recently culled a large number of 'over the hill' players, has appointed such an old leadership team. Worst still, is the re-introduction of some older players who have been given the opportunity to lead before and failed. They were promoted again, ahead of younger more promising kids. And it's January and there's absolutely nothing worth writing about.

There's a reason why Stephen Rielly writes about football and doesn't coach a football team.

I can understand the youth argument, because everyone wants to look forward to the future and promote young talent... Me too

But consider this; perhaps these guys are going to be playing a slightly different role under the Bailey regime to what they were under Daniher. So things have changed slightly and it doesn't make sense to argue that some of these leaders underperformed under Daniher

From what I can gather, Bailey has come up with a new concept of learning from the players themselves, and whilst young players can also potentially have a good view and ideas on the game, there is no substitute for maturity in terms of games played and in terms of consulting as more of an assistant coach. I believe that this is why they are generally older - something to do with Bailey's learn from the player approach.

Players that are still learning the game potentially have every bit as much leadership as an older bloke, but they simply may not carry themselves as well in the coach's box. (So to speak)

If you look at what Port have been doing with there just retired or soon to be retired players, then it makes sense of our leadership group.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
