Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where did you hear he had been made captain.?

It was within another news item:

WEST ADELAIDE LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENTS

The West Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce Nathan Brown is the club's new Captain. Nathan has returned to the club after a successful 10 year AFL career which saw him play 145 games.

A passionate West Adelaide person, Nathan has had an immediate impact on the training track and throughout the playing group. Full of energy and enthusiasm he is looking forward to leading the club into a successful era.

Nathan will receive support from vice captains Peter Walsh and 2007 Steve Hamra Medallist (Best and Fairest) Simon McCormick.

The West Adelaide Football Club would like to acknowledge the efforts of David Piasente, who stood down as captain after two seasons.

David led the club with determination through a very tough period and did so with distinction.

David will be working on ensuring he gets his own football back to his usual high standards after a couple of frustrating years with injury. He will also work closely in a mentoring role with some up and coming young players at the club.

Andrew Collins, Senior Coach, said these 3 players have been empowered with the on field leadership of the West Adelaide FC and the enormous responsibility along with the great honour that is leadership, sits naturally with all of them. All have a strong desire to be the best they can be and an extreme hate of losing. They are demanding of their team mates in regards to on and off field actions and lead by example and are courageous role models. Nathan with the support of Peter and Simon are steadfast on making this club great again and are looking forward to sharing a great season with their team mates. Nathan, Peter and Simon will assist with coaching duties throughout the season.

Damn shame that Brown retired. He had 1 solid year of AFL left, and he was in career best form towards the end of 2007.

I'm tipping the MFC were not going to offer him another contract, hence he retired.

No. Brown had indicated that this year was his last sometime during the 2007 season.

Good on him to finish his career full of running although his 2007 form had been patchy earlier on.

Brown's best year was 2004 by a mile. Every since then he slowly deteriorate as a footballer as his lack of pace and questionable ball usage got found out. In fact his hard work in 2007 is testimony to his character as his 2005 was horrible and the gap between that year and 2004 was disturbing.

West Adelaide have picked up a top bloke and a good leader. Good luck to him.

Oh really. I didn't know that.

You'd imagine the MFC would not have offered him another contract anyway, with the likes of Godfrey and Ward also being shown the door.

Another minor connection with West Adelaide is that its new coach, former Hawthorn player coach Andy Collins, played for the Zebras and then coached them in 1997-98, taking them to the flag in his first season there.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
