If CAC is rated so highly, then why are we predicted to be so bad again?

The general conclusion that has been reached in this thread is that I’m dumb. Fair enough. I probably am.

:D

Maybe. But it's been anything but dull...

I’m not posting on this thread anymore as I’ve antagonised far too many people.

What? You've not antagonised anyone that I can see. You've presented a view and done so very well. Personally I wish there were more like you.

The fact that you chose an indefensible topic did put you behind the eight ball!!

TimD,

I believe David Neitz is one of the most unfairly treated forwards in the competition. The number of times he is screened out of a contest and not given any reward is terribly frustrating. He’s also the victim of ND’s attacking game plan. The strict interpretation of the hands-in-the-back rule is not helping him either. However, a weakness in his game has been his lack of defensive pressure in the forward line. Someone will ask me to provide proof. I can’t.

for what its worth i agree with everything you have said so far , keep up the good work!

FAtty, damn it dumbkoff! - discussion is excellent. Don't stop thinking and arguing. FWIW I disagree, but I appreciate the chance to think about it and talk it over.

I think Neita does apply defensive pressure - he draws three defenders to and then into a contest. He often occupies two blokes when he hits the ground. He chases. It's just that it is often just him. I think the illusion that presents itself is of lack of pressure.

Neitz recent problem isn't that he lacks the effort to provide pressure it's just that he's lost his pace aand mobility to do it effectively. Last seaon it was quite common to see his direct opponent run off him all day but that is bound to happen when a player is enaring the end of his career.

Interesting discussion, but the topic is premature on two points:

1. "predicted to be so bad" - let's wait and see what actually happens - who knows we could win the 2008 flag - no-one expected Port or North to finish so high last year.

2. By his own inference, CAC's recruiting gets better with age. It's too early to judge his last couple of years and there could easily be stars amongst Jones, McLean, Bate, Frawley, Morton, Dunn, Petterd, Grimes, Maric and Newton.

An interesting discussion. Old, not really premature for the reason that everybody thinks they get better the longer they are in the job. I recall ND saying he was a far better coach in his last couple of years than his first few, yet the results might indicate otherwise. I don't think anyone expects the past couple of years of draftees to make any serious impact in 2008, so our success or otherwise will depend upon CAC's previous 8 years worth of drafting/couple of years of list management, and the impact that the new footy department has, as well as the development that the previous footy dept put into the list. Still, I get what your saying. Should be interesting to see how it all unfolds - I think that like a few sides, if we have a better than reasonable injury run then the bottom half of the eight is realistic.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
