Maybe we should start a separate thread and title it: "Bruce vs. McLean- the battle of BrownlowBruce vs. anyone who'll argue back".

Bruce will not be Captrain, and should not be Captain

So as of this post, there will be no more suggestions of that kind

Thanks

I honestly don't why Neitz wouldn't do the captaincy for his last season. Why bother not doing it for one season?

Co-captains anyone?

Green/Bruce?

McDonald/Mclean?

Neitz/Judd?

Mclean/Judd? (Drooooool...)

Bollocks to co captains. Seems a cop out to me, I think Bailey will have some one in mind and over the early months of pre season will decide, Besides the best player does not always become the best captain.

If J.Brown does not take over the captaincy at the Lions, then Mathews has lost the plot.

Was that the first 7 games?

When we averaged about 3 hardball gets a game?

Was he also leading our clangers then?

if current rumor is true...re Brocky ( and Carroll) overseas...forget being captain Brocky, you have done your dash this time....

I seem to remember one David Neitz taking on security and taxi drivers down at Crown, does this mean he doesn't deserve captaincy?

brock had a broken leg since the start of the year, stupid post.

i like bruce, i really do. and i think he is a good footballer, and, especially if he can get his kicking back on track he could be a very damaging player for us.

however if he is captain we may as well just put daniher back in as coach. we want to move away from how the club has been for the last decade, and imo bruce epitomises the last decade. he gets lots of touches, so he always looks good in the paper the next day, he is always around the ball so it looks good, but he has no stand up and fight leadership, no mongrel and his disposals are no where near as effective as the numbers he gets.

he doesnt fight. he doesnt exude leadership. he doesnt fire players up and demand they follow him.

mclean may have had a poor season, but in the past when he hasnt been injured he has shown he is a player who demands others to take that step up. he has also shown that he hurts the opposition with his disposals. he was injured this year, but will he go back to that? the coaching staff know more than we do.

who goes to training regularly? who demands repect on the training track? who puts in 100% and makes people lift?

thats the player i would be making captain.

broken foot...

Brock mclean , give him a break u talk him up.. how many times will u have to bite ur tongue..... he has done nothing in his career.

he has poor behaviour off he fied... he has showed poor behaviour on the field this year. (silly free kicks)

he looked slow all year and maybe the only thing he does have is good spirits

who are u to say bruce has no leadership? he was clearly chosen by his teammates as one of the best and by the club hence being in the leadership group..

mclean like miller will eliminated from the leadership group next year

BB, the events of the last fortnight will see you proven corerct in regards to Brock

He wont captain the MFC

However before his trouble in Europe, there wasnt much to base your claims for him not being Captain on

Lets just say you got lucky !!!!

Posted

I promise you that what has happened over the last 2 weeks will not affect Brock's chances of being our captain one day.

He may not be ready yet, but he will definitely be a contender in years to come.

Many great captains have slipped up over the years and done stupid things... Carey, Cousins, NEITA... however their deeds did not make them any less successful as leaders.

I think if we've learnt one thing from this whole European shenanigan, is that Brock and his mates need to do a lot of growing up. At 21, that's almost a given.

are you guys actually Bruce and mclean or just like arguing like little girls!

Why dont you just say the positives about your choice and stop bagging our players!

McLean won't be Captain - Hasn't shown enough leadership within the group.

Jones won't be either - Too young, needs more time to develop as a leader within the group.

Neitz - Has said he wanted a year off from Captaincy.

Bruce - Too much of a injured year but a great leader & has a lot of respect.

Green - Has also a lot of respect of the playing group.

So in my view, it will be Green or Bruce to take it from Neitz. Unless of course if Neitz decides to keep it.

Near the end of the season, Neitz said McDonald would be a good captain.

If Dean Bailey is going to be the new broom, he should start sweeping clean. A new leadership group headed by McLean, Rivers and Carroll who are all currently cultivating a new tough image for the Demons over there in Europe.

Would only allow BB to make demonland uglier than hes already made it with the garbage he posts.

Where did you go to school? He's proven nothing you've said correct. You're just expressing your opinion over and over, no point has been proven one way or the other. The only way either arguement can be proven or disproven is if he IS given the captaincy. If it doesn't got to him, we'll never know.

But hey, what would be the point of saying this? I must have written half my posts in opposition to yours, along with everyone else on this site, and yet you STILL cling to your rubbish theories. You, more than any poster, make demonland redundant.

Brad Green B+F positions:

2003: 7th

2004: 7th

2005: 5th

2006: 5th

2007: 4th

That's why he should be captain in 2008.

the guy in consitent, skillful and courageous. when given the captaincy in 2007 performed brilliently. is inspirational.

no doubt he should be captain in 2008.

what outstanding b&f performances. it's a credit to him.

Green has come on as a player the way i hoped johnstone and bruce would.

id like to see him play more in the forward line next season

Posted

Personally i think Neitz will keep the captaincy unless Bailey asks him to stand down. If this happens then i am all for Green has fantastic leadership skills and i think he will step up if made captain.

Neitz Captain 2008

Green Captain 2009

and then Brock when he's ready to be captain.

Are you people forgetting that a bloke by the name of Miller had a good year and was touted as the next captain of Melbourne, now he is a dud, I think Brock needs to just concentrate on playing footy for a while if Neitz does it this year I think one of the young blokes will come through and prove themselves as a future leader (or we could take the easy option like other clubs and just give it to 5 blokes)

I'm now of the opinion Neeta ought to still lead in 08.. he can go out in ablaze of glory...and hand over the job and seasons end... when we might have a clearer idea of his successor.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
