Whitey 250th

Well done mate

My guess is we will win for Whitey this weekend (yes its a big call)

250 games is a wonderful effort, it's just a pity that this season has been so shiite that most of the enthusiasm for th eclub has evaporated.

Well done Whitey

Well all things aside, it is a marvellous achievement for any player. In that light kudos where warranted. Congratulations Jeff.

Shouldn't we keep him for 2 more years so he can get his 300th also? Wouldn't be worth much in trade. I'm joking, don't turn this into a who should/shouldn't we trade topic

Would a club have had more 200, 250, 300 games in the 1 year where they lose them all?

I believe that is what will happen to us this year.

I think we have lost a few 150th's along the way as well  !!!

Anyway congratulations to Jeff on what is a magnificent achievement.

His contribution to our team over so many years is greatly appreciated and I hope that he can celebrate with some style.......

But I am not holding my breath ;) :D !!!

Congratulations on 250 games!

The creation of the second centre circle ruined the athletic advantage!!

Hope for a big one - the running, the beautiful kicking, geting into dangerous positions, etc!!!

Congratulations to a consistent performer who has carried the team's ruck duties mainly on his own for years, and has done so professionally and admirably (and through significant injury).

Big two weeks coming up, with Whitey's 250th and Neita the following week.

Of course we care about White's 250th!

Congratulations Jeff :)

He cops it pretty badly on this site, even in his own milestone-game thread <_< , but he has and continues to be one of my all-time favourite players.

How unfortunate for so many milestone games to have fallen in such a shocking year.

If we can't win for Neitz.. I will get down onto the ground and spank every player out there.

Is Jeff White an outside chance for All-Australian this year?

It hasn't been a good year for ruckman and there is always two picked.

Jeff has always been one of my favourite MFC players. He has carried our ruck division for many years as well as battling his painful shin problem and the horrific facial injury of 2005. The winning goal against the Bulldogs in 2005 to get us into the finals- a great memory!

Despite our 'season from hell' he is still second on hitouts and I think ranks number one for ruckman in Champion Data stats

Congratulations Jeff! I'll be there to cheer you on this weekend.

What a great achievement!

Well done Jeff, you have been a star for the MFC over the years, and long may that continue.....hopefully to 300 games!

Have a great game, and great night!

Spot on Jaded, has done it tough without support, Deserves congrats on his 250th.

He's been the best rade i've ever seen in my time at Melbourne, and has been probably the most consistant player in the last decade. Always a top ruckman despite the new rules effectively screwing him.

Congrats, and hopefully you can sink the bullys like you did in 05!

Well done Jeff!

Has been very unfairly criticised over the last couple of years. While the new ruck circle has curtailed his ability to win the centre hitouts, he has adapted as well as possible and has maintained his good form around the ground. He has had the second most hitouts in the competition this year and gets as many possessions as any other ruckman in the competition. He is still the most important player in our team and will probably be a player who will only truly get the credit he deserves after he retires... has been the best ruckman of the last decade!

Good to see so many people admire him for the hard work he has done, and mainly on his own.

Congratulations to Jeff.

Lets hope the players show a bit more respect to this achievement than they did for Robbo's 200th against the Roos in round 16.

I'll lay off for the week but ur wrong deeboy.

Congrats Whitey for 250 and ur career.

Most of us were understably very doubtful, but they did it for Whitey!

I'm thrilled. Shocked, but thrilled.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
