Whist I fully understand why they’re saying it’s “Carlton’s loss”, I really truly believe that we played our butts off, and honestly outplayed Carlton.

Sure, they have fade outs.

But you have on some level to be good enough to beat a team.

I especially give us credit after the new changes top to bottom and young team.

Looking forward to seeing the comments this week post Carlton and pre GC to see what they think. I think we could be ok against GC but depends on which Melbourne come out.

Everytime I see Buckley talking and listening on 'On The Couch' he looks like he's about to swing at anyone that challenges his point of view. I find it very uncomfortable.

I get that, as well as the fig jam, but at the same time, I also think he comes across with a kind of calmness, surety and as one of the more knowledgeable commentators. He's also a fairly good communicator which is more than can be said for some of them.

Having actually been a coach that built up a side to get to a grand final, I also have a bit more respect for him than some of the has been ex-players that have never really taken on that level of responsibility, but want to preach their expertise on footy analysis to everyone as if they have. Perhaps that's why he comes across a bit condescending to others on the show when they challenge him on stuff and fair enough to an extent.

Agree with most.
On the Couch is as good with Riewoldt, but it was much better when Nick Riewoldt was on it, he was great.

First Crack is good,i only miss it, if we get smashed :) ,plus you can speed through the games your not intersted in.

dont really watch the other shows.

I actually find Leigh Montagna one of the most reasonable for balanced well reasoned comments and don't mind his contributions on Fox.

Haven't watched 360 for a while, but at the other end of the spectrum, I find Mark Maclure to be a crusty old know it all that I can't stand anymore.

McLure on 360? He hasn't been on it for probably at least 4 years.

We could've so easily given up when Carlton goaled in the third and last quarter. Usually two quick goals and a 4goal lead like Carlton's early in the last will quash a tiring team's comeback. But not only did we hit the lead we kept going! Certainly Melbourne did so much right after Q1.

And the final years it was a Weekend At Bernies situation. They tried to liven him up by giving him match assignments and he'd come in with a sheet of paper full of stats and he'd just read them out loud off the page with zero analysis. A real product of a bygone era was McClure.

I don’t necessarily like David King’s delivery, but he very consistently shows behind the goals vision - which really helps explain how teams structure up. He showed great vision of Collingwood/GWS that outlines just how important forward hand pass is for unsettling a defence, and where poor kicking kills you.

I thought it was interesting last night on On The Couch how Jordan Lewis said he found if hard at Melbourne’s game to really figure out what was happening in real time. The behind the goals vision is where you can really see the breakdowns, and the structures.

In general I think there’s no show that really goes into how teams play, which I find really disappointing. It’s all about drama, as opposed to what’s actually happening on the field. It’s a shame as I feel like 50% of footy fans would love some complex explanation of why certain teams want a certain game style. Instead we get 15 shows almost all saying the same thing about which coach should be sacked, and who’s not going in hard enough.

Not so sure The heart beats true if you come up with a winning formula do you really want the experts to break it down for all to see, need to keep some of the ju ju in the can for game days. When a team really gets going, ie Blues first half, us second half it’s quite mystical to watch. I mentioned to my grandson that had we missed a couple of those difficult goals the “Spell” would have been broken and we possibly lose.

Its the anger that comes from never winning a flag despite being in the game for 30+ years

I reckon all teams coaches know what most teams are going to want to do. But I think the average fan doesn’t have a clue what teams are actually doing. The amount of ‘man up’ and blaming of defenders that happen around me at the G every home game tells me the game’s tactics are lost on most fans.

I’d just like one or two tv shows that highlight in better detail the tactics in games. Champion Data and Adam Simpson do a decent job on the radio, but it would be made so much better with vision - and it’s not like we don’t have enough TV shows. 👍

He looks like either he feels he is too good to be on the show and seriously doesn't want to be there.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
