Scouting Notes: 2026 Talent League - Round 2

Round 2 of the Talent League saw prospects produce breakout games, and stand up in the absence of key personnel.

#3 Jett Flower

Defender/Midfielder | 183cm | 25/05/2009

Stats: 25 disposals, 5 marks, 9 tackles

Flower is a familiar name to those in the know, as the grandson of late Melbourne champion, Robert. He was outstanding for Eastern in stifling conditions, first down back and eventually in midfield. His competitive nature and willingness to scrap for possession saw him earn the positional switch, ending as the Ranges' top ball winner. Flower is just as capable as a run-and-gun type, entrusted with kick-in duties and driving his legs on the rebound. On Saturday, the bottom-ager's hunt and repeat efforts were the standout.

No doubt he WILL be drafted in 2027 but not a snowflakes chance in hell he will be a Dee🤢

Um in the best players again this weekend at Eastern Rangers!

Dees will definitely have Jett on the list of future ones to watch already.

judging by how well he has started his underage campaign, i don't think we'll be alone there in marking his name on the whiteboard

Tassie's Jake Beams in there, too. Tasmanian (Launceston) Ben's grandson or great nephew?

I was going to say he's got more than enough time to achieve it...

Grandfather-son of a club legend rule!

'Balls', you'd be interested in the chat on this in the separate thread about your grandson!

@Demonland, recognising what will evidently be unfolding in the next handful of years, could the Flower and Grinter threads be merged into a 'Watch on the descendents of the 80s/90s cohort' thread?

Father Son recruiting rights is a rule I love.

I would definitely support an extension of this rule that led to descendant grandchildren of players having the right to nominate their grandparents club if that was their desire.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.

From the outset, the Casey Demons lacked any spring in their steps. They were out-hustled and out-bustled and finally outplayed by the Brisbane Lions by 38 points on their home turf in perfect conditions at Casey Fields.
