Demonstone's #50 - A Hellraising Heroicomic Heuristic Heartbreaker

Featured Replies

It's the final teaser for 2025 and what a milestone!

With that fortuitous edge through slips, Demonstone takes the single to bring up his half-century. He acknowledges the applause from the crowd with an understated smile and a modest raising of his bat, while his batting partner and best mate @Cranky Franky joins him for a celebratory hug and an encouraging pat on the bum.

If you would like to join the team in the dressing rooms for a drink after play finishes tonight, there are two things you must do to be eligible.

1 - Identify the common link that binds the players in the team below. They all appeared on an AFL list in 2025 and are named pretty much in position.

2 - Respond in a PM only. Failure to do so will result in you being run out (of town).

B:

John Noble

Tom McCartin

Mark Keane

H/B:

Tom McDonald

James Sicily

Isaac Cumming

C:

Angus Sheldrick

Callum Mills

Cam McKenzie

H/F:

Shannon Neale

Quinton Narkle

F:

Tim Membrey

Aaron Naughton

Jamie Elliott

R:

Rhys Stanley

Connor Rozee

Tom Mitchell

I/C:

Sid Draper

Terrific Tempting T’alliteration!

You said reply only in PMs, but didn't say the had to be Australian PMs. So here is my guess;

We have a winner with @Jjrogan spotting the link.

As the recipient of first prize, they get to enjoy a very large glass of champagne. Hell, I'm so impressed you can take the whole bottle!

Coming home strongly to finish second is @Harvey Wallbanger who has also cracked the puzzle.

He joins the team in the sheds nursing a cold can of Jim Beam & Coke, with the chance of another if the first one doesn't kill him.

Although the answer is not football related, two current AFL coaches would qualify for inclusion.

One of the two is a Scott brother. Perversely, his twin isn't the other one.

Third prize still up for grabs. Haven't received a PM with your answer, @Go Ds . (Any previous PM conversations deleted a long time ago)

Talking of PMs we'd have to go back to the 70s (both here and abroad ) and 80s for Melbourne coaches. Yes?

  • Author

@Go Ds has indeed solved it, and can now enjoy an ice-cold stubby of VB with the boys in the dressing rooms for coming third.

The teaser will remain open until tomorrow should any others care to have a go.

A final clue will be posted before I go to bed tonight. (Why a final clue? Because I don't have any others.)

I've just joined and need to record that I am disqualified on the basis of inside knowledge.

However, I would also like to record that I'm sure I would have got it had I not had said inside knowledge.

Yeah. Right.

Yes, @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew is aware of the solution and, as a fair and just reward, may select a beverage of his choice from the team esky.

Incidentally TRAB, this is the last of my current arsenal so it's over to you and/or @Little Goffy and/or anybody else to devise the next teaser.

Thanks, Mr Stone.

With the champers, JBnC, and VB all quaffed, I shall take my tall glass of melted ice and hie to my study to scheme and plot.

As a general rule, I'm not one to quote the Bible.

However, most of you seem to be without a prayer so you might find some guidance in Matthew 20:16.

(Please be aware that 'Matthew 20' does NOT refer to M. Febey. lol)

See you all tomorrow. It's going to be a scorcher apparently.

One incorrect suggestion has been received overnight, but no further action.

Would it help if I mentioned that Tom Sims first name is actually Thomas and that the eligible Scott is Chris?

Answer to be revealed later on today.

No.

Incidentally, why is cranky Franky out in the middle with you? How come he gets to bat so high up the order? Has he even made a single run? Does he automatically get to go for a drink in the rooms without even having to attempt this diabolical puzzle? 😡

Consider me out for a duck

Good day, Sir

🤨

How about if I mention that the other coach is Sam Mitchell?

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
