I'd want to see Sparrow keep up this form for longer before listing him as indispensible, but Chandler is exactly that. He's in the ANB category of a player worth a lot to Melbourne but probably not a lot to "the market". Uses his speed so well to hurry and harry defenders (I'm always a bit hesitant to use Champion Data stats, because I think a lot of them are utter garbage, but it is interesting that Chandler is in the top 15 in the league for pressure acts and only Steele has more than him at Melbourne). And his kicking is really good, too.

2nd round AFL picks will be pick 40+ !!!

So II hope we match any offer forcing a trade with better results. Having said that I wouldn't want to see them go.

There is so much distortion of the first round of the draft it makes a mockery of 2nd round and later picks.

We have 3 best 22 players aged between 25-29; Petty, Chandler and Sparrow.

We'd get very poor return from them in a trade, and we'd lose a ton of depth at half-forward. Lose-lose situation.

As mentioned I don't want them to go. I may have worded it poorly but my point was, as FA's if Chandler and Sparrow ask to be traded we can't directly stop them and we will do better in a trade than an AFL comp pick.

will depend on other targets/departures but the rule is 3yrs a rookie and only must be upgraded if played 10+ games, so he could do 27 on the rookie list too of it suited us that way, historically we prefer to run 6 A rookies, freeing up draft picks and flexibility that way

Wonder what sort of contract length Chandler would get offered from other clubs given he's a free agent

From the senior list I would re-sign Chandler, Sparrow, Fritsch, Jefferson, Salem

At risk of retirement/delistings are Adams, Campbell, Johnson, Laurie, McAdam, McDonald, Melksham.

7 is a lot to move on given our recent hx of taking only between 2-3 players + one or two trades. Perhaps a player like Johnson, Melksham or Laurie will be retained on a 1 year contract as our 2027 ooc list is fairly thin.

Might see a rookie or two promoted to the senior list as well such as Kentfield and perhaps Cross.

Culley is a rookie that needs to be promoted.

Nope, can do 2027 on rookie list as its 3yr maximum term (if played 10+ games at that point)

>10 games can do up to 5yrs as A rookie

AFL avg is 8 changes a season, i think we could comfortably make another 10 this year on top of the 11 exits we had last year

You're right actually once we factor in rookies as well. Could easily be 10 moved on. Plus May isn't on the contract list anymore but will count as a retirement.

However looking to 2027 we probably want to keep all those listed players +/- Gawn and Mihocek who both might retire. Some one year contracts to a few depth players is probably necessary.

Culley has already signed a contract extension until 2028 👍
