What does this say, for we the face-less?

You’re not missing nuch. It’s Caden from the DeeBrief singing his own composition, a list of all the bad things that’ve happened at the Club since 2021, called Take Me Back To When Demons Were Winning.

My phone has somehow lost the ability to edit. Nuch should read Much

Pessimism must be very Therapeutic !!

The two blokes that left were becoming so self- centred (Remember Petracca tried the same stunt at the end of last year and Oliver didn't turn up ....) I will cut a bit of slack on Petracca's attitude at the end of last season but talking of "the Brand" gave me the "irrits".

I have a question as to when he (Petracca) had his "exit" interview, because he announced he was seeking to move "the Brand" somewhere else at the same time King was fully involved with Geelong GF. (Note : At his (Kings) announcement "party he stated that after the "announcement party" he was going to be 100% Geelong until AFTER the GF By this time "The Brand" had rebranded !!

Would that show that they thought the Club did not matter ? ?

The Good thing is we have two (plus) new players who are the epitome of TEAM PLAYERS (Mihocek & Steele) coming to us which is going to make us a better place where the young blokes can learn to be part of a TEAM instead of having to bow whenever one of the "Brands" or "yesterday's heros" walked past them.

Up the old red Rooster !!!

Some thoughts about hope and changing of eras.

In hindsight, the beginning of the end started the moment Brayshaw lost consciousness in the opening moments of the ’23 preliminary final. We lost our composure and so too finals series. We lost an important clubman and players lost their way.

The 23/24 “offseason from hell” continued into 2024 onseason. It was awful but I thought – or preferred to believe - it was more bad luck than bad management.

Come Jan ’25, I attended an opening training session with my two excited boys. The smell of barbequed sausages was in the air and so was hope. We bought both.

The boys held still for the players to sign their Dees jumpers (including a 2021 Premiership version) and smiled for photos with Goodwin, Claz and Trac. A photo from that day is the screen saver on my phone.

A month or so later, I was concerned when key ball users were felled by injury, casting doubts about the feasibility of implementing of a new game plan, characterised by better ball movement.

By 0-5, hope was nearly extinguished. Yes, there was a mid-season renaissance, with stirring wins over Freo, Sydney and Brisbane but it was a false dawn. Honourable losses followed but losses cease to be honourable when they become habitual. Then there was that Saints game.

Goodwin told the board we were so close they “could smell it”. He was still selling hope. I could sense it in January but not in August. Eventually, the reality of experience needs to triumph over hope.

I believed in Goodwin’s ability to evolve the game plan – he had done it before – but not our personnel. Trac, Oliver, Viney, Lever and May were not going to play in another premiership together. Hard decisions needed to be made. I don’t hold it against Goodwin if he was unable to do this; perhaps his close relationship with the players enabled ’21 in the first place. Perhaps without Goodwin, Oliver doesn’t have one of the best early careers in VFL/AFL history.

I find myself both sad and happy that Goodwin, Trac and Oliver have left. All three were integral to our best era in 60 years. All three contributed to our decline. All three are human and flawed like the rest of us. The future does not change the past; while I think it’s best they move on all should be remembered as MFC greats.

Guerra and King have started well; they communicate clearly and act purposefully. They been making difficult but necessary changes to create a fresh start and establish a new era. Hope springs forth again.

Think it started earlier than that with Oliver's mysterious hamstring/tendon injury in mid-23 and him going off the rails

The son of Sean Smith was symptomatic of the disfunction among some of the playing group as well

With regards to next season and beyond I’ll just leave this here…

No one can predict jack. Not the media, not anyone. Brisbane were $81 for the flag and out of the gate in round 1 smashed the reigning premiers.

I still believe we have a capable list with extraordinary talent and so many players who can now now show their true potential when it comes to the midfield. Don’t think we can come close to winning the flag, but we can make finals. Melbourne is living proof across 21-25 that talent alone isn’t enough.

With a new direction, I believe we can prove duds like Sam Maclure wrong in 2026, hence building towards another flag in quick time. I believe in the list and the new look club.

I am fairly certain that he is in his final year, as Chaplin is. But getting rid of everyone in one Spring is just not tenable. Probably not even affordable.

Without some inside info we just don’t know whether the malaise of our culture and expectations of behaviour began and end with Goodwin.

I personally put more on Gawn than Richo but to criticise Max is akin to crucifying Bambi on the anniversary of his mother’s death (spoiler)…

And Max isn’t going anywhere- touch wood

For a moment there, I thought you'd strayed into political commentary. One Spring St is the address of the Victorian State Premier's office.

Richmond won the flag in 2019.

Wait! As you were. My mistake. The Premier is in 1 Treasury Place.
