So it’s 7&8? Let’s see how that might work out

  1. WCE -Willem Duursma

Suns match bid …Zeke Uwland (academy)

  2. WCE -Cooper Duff-Tytler

  3. Rich Sam Grlj 🤩

Lions bid match … Daniel Annable (academy)

  4. Rich. Sullivan Robey 🤩

Suns bid match … Dylan Patterson (academy)

  5. Ess. Dyson Sharp.

Blues bid match. Harry Dean (Carlton f/son)

  6. Ess. Xavier Taylor

    7&8 contenders

    Josh Lindsay (Vic)

    Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (Vic)

    Lachlan Dovaston (Vic)

    Sam Cumming (SA)

    Jacob Farrow (WA)

    Oliver Greeves (Vic)

    Beau Addinsall (Suns academy)

    smokie. Oskar Taylor

  1. Lindsay - spectacular left footer. Composed by foot and makes smart decisions

  1. Greeves - big bodied mid that can also play up forward. Good by foot and is also composed with ball in hand

  2. Dovaston - small forward that can also play minutes in the middle as he is ferocious at the ball. Similar to nick watson but bigger and taller

Would be happy with any of these 3

I think that’s pretty accurate though. Everything I’ve heard would suggest Langford would go pick 1 in this draft and Lindsay probably top 2-3

If this is the case, then we need to trade both 7 and 8 to get a top 4 pick. Very simple.

Or, we trade them for F1 if next year's is better

Quoting myself in another thread.

'I don't think our list is as bad as others think it is though. Watching from behind the goals at the Collingwood game in the last round the shape and aggression to bring the ball back in board and the over lap run from behind was so much more on trend. And TC only had a few weeks. Goody's head and heart were stuck in 2021 and it showed in selection and strategy.

If JT likes someone I don't mind the idea of betting on ourselves and using our F1st'

Only thing that gets it done imo to get pick 2. Everyone will think we're dc's but get Robey plug and play HFF. Imagine the wing, mid, HFF, deep forward rotations Culley, Langford and Robey. Adopt a winners mentality. Don't look forward to Scully and co

*Sorry my mistake same thread. Might be out of reach regardless. Seems to be having a similar trajectory to Lalor. Cal's October rankings are imminent and had Lalor behind Harvey this time last yr. Power mid/forwards are in demand according to recent Dusty, Trac and Danger performances.

Has X @ 183cm… he seems taller than that.

I'm sure all of those conversations are happening internally, it'll depend on how JT rates the players available to us and if there is much interest in picks 7 and 8 when it comes to trading in future first rounders.

My thoughts also. The ability to win enough of your own contested ball is one of the most accurate measures of success at AFL level. There used to be a magic statistic that you needed to be above 30% contested possession rate or you could not make it at AFL level. Even outside running wingmen like Ed Langdon are above this mark.

Highly rated players like Toumpas, Morton, O'Rourke, Tsatas etc were taken right at the top of the draft due to their skill and accumulation at an underage level. They all had low contested possession and tackle rate and won nearly all their disposals uncontested on the outside. When they took the step to AFL level, they were no longer afforded the same time or lack of physical pressure and therefore did not become the projected stars or even average AFL players.

Lindsey looks like this to me. His game is described as "friendly". He's a brilliant kick, has great vision, but is very outside. He's fed the ball in the backline and not shown at ability to adjust through the midfield to a more 360 degree game and to handle pressure and physicality. His weaknesses are listed as contest, leg speed, defensive work. Those are some glaring attributes required to make it at AFL level. Leg speed you can compensate for. Inability to handle and apply physical pressure you cannot.

Even with the more free flowing modern game, contest and clearances dictated the outcome of this finals series yet again. When the pressure ramps up, you need to be able to handle it. For mine, I'd be hoping we draft someone who can become an elite midfielder, not a designated kick out player. For this reason, I'm hopeful of players like Grlj, Oskar Taylor, and others similar.

Well that’s disappointing, I watched another highlights reel of him yesterday and on a couple of occasions he took a nice contested mark or won his own ball but yes this is just a snapshot. On the flip side at 7 & 8 were left some options that aren’t great kicks. As good as Trac and Oliver were in winning the contested ball their kicking let the them down. Correcting kicking techniques doesn’t seem an easy fix.

I'd like to give a bit of love to Phillipou. Been mentioned a couple of times only and in my completely uninformed and useless opinion (with so little research to the point that I really shouldn't have an opinion) but heck, every bloody half informed fool and his dog have put forward their two cents, so Phillipou for me

*No WA talent please. They tend to be poached.

That is all.

Surely we can construct a contract with a provision of investment incentive and penalties for loss of return on investments.

Yeah dont know.. I didnt see anything in 2021 that suggested he was going to be a future gun.

Neither did I and I got crucified for it. His decision making and skills have always been poor and then the game shifted away from his/our style too.

That said, I think he’s actually a fraction undervalued now. Great worker, kind of maybe showed some signs of life the last 3 weeks that he could do a role on the wing (at least in rotations). And if he’s not clear best 22 I’d would like to see him get the 6 weeks getting 30+ at Casey that I feel like he missed going straight from 2020 covid practice games to best 23.

I don’t like his ball use and he didn’t test all that well but he has a wicked change of direction that is a very fun trait if he can pull it off at afl level.

I've become increasingly convinced of the argument that things drop off by 7 and 8, which is unfortunate.

I'd be perfectly okay with some of the options at our current picks (obviously I'm hoping for a double-Sam selection) who would likely be stalwart contributors, but every phantom draft and power ranking and anything else pumped out by the track watchers suggests that once you set aside the academies there are really only four or five of this year's crop projected to be outstanding players.

Anyway, I'm an absolute sucker for nearest-the-pin speculations;

Option 1, use 7 and 8 to build up a full 'best 25', with White and Sinnema completing our list.

Option 2, go nuts burning 7 and 8 for an early selection and hope for a star, take White and Sinnema late, and have a SSP/midseason slot available.

Option 3, use 7, live trade 8 with Carlton so they get ahead of the Harry Dean nomination, shenanigans ensue.

Interestingly it's being reported WCE are considering bidding on Dean at 2, which would cause the Blues to Burn pick 9 and send pick 11 to the second round. I wonder if that will have any impact on our strategy. Good on them to make everyone use up their points but probably indicates trading up to pick 2 isn't likely.

My early guess for how the early part of the draft will pan out.

  1. Duursma - eagles

  2. CDT - eagles

  3. Robey - tigers

  4. Grjl - tigers

  5. X Taylor - bombers

  6. Sharp - bombers

Potentially leaving us to pick from two of Cumming, Lindsay, Dovaston, Farrow, Schubert, Marsh, O Taylor, Greeves, NHH

@Random Task i agree with you (as I posted 22/10/25). And intersperse with academy and father son picks.

Leaves us “two of”… Lindsay, Dovaston, Hibbins-Hargreaves, interstate kids… Cumming, Farrow, Schubert, & Marsh, slider in Greeves and the smoky in Oskar Taylor.

Cal Twomey has Dovaston at 18 (what happened there?) and Pickett at 24.

Unless we trade up we’re not getting a gun mid, I hope we land Pickett.

Throwing GC our second rounders this year has cost us Pickett.

I understand why it had to be done, but that's the extra cost.

I say we trade down with 8. Maybe Hawks bite with pick #22 and a F1 or Norf with #25 and a F1.

LJ wasn't in Cal's October 2019 top 10 and Kozzy wasn't in his top 30...
